BLOOMFIELD, Conn. (AP) - Bloomfield police say a 29-year-old woman has died from apparent carbon monoxide poisoning in a home where an unventilated generator was running in the basement.

The death appears to be the fifth in Connecticut related to last weekend's snowstorm, which knocked out power to more than 800,000 homes and businesses across the state. Gov. Dannel P. Malloy said Tuesday that there had been 135 cases of carbon monoxide poisoning in the state since the storm hit.

Authorities haven't released the woman's name. Officers found her dead in a home on Harding Avenue shortly after 11 p.m. Tuesday, after relatives told police they hadn't been able to contact her.

Police say they believe fumes from the generator caused her death. An autopsy is planned.

How SAD!

I saw the article in the Hartford paper but I had no idea she was from Jamaica much less TB.

They are now saying there were 7 storm related deaths in CT.

I did not know Toya but my condolences to her family.

Oh my goodness this is so sad, the poor dear. What a shame. This is so common now a days, we all must learn from this poor woman and get our carbon monoxide alarms along with our smoke detectors in good operating order. That carbon monoxide is such a sneaky killer. I didn't know this lady but may she RIP and be warm forever in heaven. <3

Very sad news, my heart go out to her family.I guess she did not know any better. But you cannot run a generator in the house it has to be outside.just wish someone had told that. Heard it was in her basement. I live in Florida where we get lots of hurricane and they warn us about that all the time.

Toya is coming from a family that I learned to admire when I become an adult and realise what family is all about. She had one of the most precious grand mother Miss Joe who spent sleepless nights/days making sure that every child was delivered safely in TB and after the birth of that child she would come every morning until she feels it was safe for the birth mother to manage on her own. All of Miss Joe work was for free. Then come Mass Wolda and Miss Vimsey, dedicated parents worked hard to raised all their children and grand children. Life was not easy for them and I myself can identify with them because we were also very poor in material things. Today as I looked back at life we were very rich, because we had the greatest riches GOD could ever give "FAMILY AND LOVE". Toya came to the US and did not forget where she was coming from, she tried her best from what I am told to help her family and others. We would never know why God sees it fit to take her home. To the family I pray that God will see you through this time of grief.
