Congratulations on being named Journalist of the Year, Earl!

Your knowledge about what is happening all over the world--and why it is happening--illustrates a deep curiosity for the things around you and a unique understanding of all you report. This, coupled with your compassion, makes you more than worthy of this prestigious award.

Bravo Earl! I hope some of your knowledge of happenings around the world will rub off somewhat right here in treasure beach by doing a story on the roads and that awful canal.
That's what your profession do best so please try and help us.

Congratulations to my brother, Earl on being honored as Journalist of the Year!

He was just saying to me last week that he had not submitted his name for consideration as he had already won the honor a few years ago and wanted to defer to other candidates.
But obviously somebody thought he deserved it again and submitted on his behalf. And congrats to Winsome as well, for keeping the home fires burning, giving him the freedom to do his job with distinction. Clearly this is hers too.

I know Daddy would be as proud of this honor as Mommy and all of us are.

Enjoy the moment, guys!

-Mar

Good to go
How are you doing? When I heard of Earl's award, I also reflected on that special desk we named "JBC" at Sandy Bank Primary School.Sometimes I marveled at how the three of us sat at that desk and were able write and do our work well. We also never fussed about any inconvenience. The J represented my name, the B yours and the C represented Earl.I wonder if any of our classmates remembered how Earl got to be represented by C.It is good to celebrate with our own. Have a blessed Christmas.

Mass Carl reply dont worry old Maise God will provide, and of course the three sisters started doing what they do best HUG AND CRY. To you my cousin God has provide and you made the best of it.

To Congrats: Earl do not live in Treasure Beach but you do not have to live in a place to do good for that place.
Do not forget that he and his wife are from Treasure Beach.
As a Journalist going out and gathering news from all over the world and in your own country I would think that Earl would find it in his heart to do his best for Treasure Beach by putting all the things that needs to be addressed on the front page of the Gleaner.
What do you think?

That's what I admire with some of our Journalist here in the States they see the need in a community they do their job sometimes out of concern, sometimes out of love and sometimes just because they do care until someone listen and fixes it.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Rebecca on Monday, December 13, 2010 - 01:26 pm: Edit Post

To Meex: Earl does not live in Treasure Beach, but I promise you Treasure Beach lives in him every moment of the day.

He has done so much for this community including bringing community issues to national attention when appropriate. Loads of the work he does for this community is behind the scenes so you may not see it, but trust me it is there.

I would like to challenge all who write on this forum suggesting someone else does something for the community by asking themselves first what they have done for the community lately. Let us all start with ourselves for helping our beloved Treasure Beach. I promise you, if that is done the entire community will benefit.

Meex: You say "I would think that Earl would find it in his heart to do his best for Treasure Beach by putting all the things that needs to be addressed on the front page of the Gleaner.
What do you think?"

I can understand why you would want that to happen, but that is not how newspapers work. Earl is wonderful at what he does and that is why the Gleaner gives him such good assignments and sems to trust him more than they trust some other writers. Earl writes for the Gleaner but he does not get to decide where they go in the Gleaner. He CAN'T put everything on the front page. Where stories go in a newpaper is NOT up to the writer, no matter how good the stories are. That is the job of the PUBLISHER, not the WRITER.

Think about it. ALL writers want their stories on the front page. There are serious problems in ALL communities.

One of the jobs of a good writer is to do research to get the facts. Another is to be impartial. If he only writes about Treasure Beach or even if he writes about it too much it will sound like he is not impartial. The Gleaner is for ALL of Jamaica.

Rebecca is correct. Do not sit around waiting for someone else to help Treasure Beach because you wil be waiting forever. What can YOU do to help? How can YOU encourage others to help?

That's what I think.

To "dont wait for Earl" -Thank you, it means I dont have to repeat what you have said as this is what I intended to write. At this point if there are no more commendations then I think the forum should be closed. May I use this opportunity to say Congratulations Earl!

Guys, just a small correction. Earl no longer writes for the Gleaner. He has not done so for almost three years now.

Jerry and "Good to Go," it's so heartwarming to see the three of you (with Earl) sharing again in this way. I won't soon forget the many days when you were young boys and you would come to our home with all your energy and innocence. It's great to see that neither time nor space has wearied your mutual affection.

G-to-G, love to your mom, please!

"Pa Hawk's Pearl," it wasn't just the three sisters who cried easily. Unfortunately, I got the crying gene too! Your post brought a flood of emotions. I truly miss Aunt Berry and Aunt Jo. Those three sisters did set a great example for all. Would if more of us were more like them! I really enjoyed your post.
Merry Christmas!
