That does not represent anything in Treasure Beach

That is a symbol of death and evil it is demonic and offensive.

Listen guys go and rip it down if whoever put it up don't remove. We are nice people but we are not stupid.

The frog said what is joke to you is death to me.

Whomever put it there know exactly what they are doing. Do not tollerate that mess.

If you accept that now, there will be worst things to come . I bet they could not fly that in the USA,Canida, England or any other Democratic Country.

Do not accept it. Stand up for respect for your community. We will not accept that mess. Keep it where they come from. No! No! dont come in and try to contiminate our little Heaven on earth.

As far as I can remember we have always respect each other and get along.

I am very offended by this flag flying in Treasure Beach. It does not belong there.

Would very much appreciate understanding the differences in cultural perception over this seemingly innocuous flag. Is it offensive because it's a pirate flag, or a flag like those flown on some of the 'booze cruises' in Negril and MoBay? Or is it the skull that making blood boil here?

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageÝLink to this messageÝÝBy Kory on Thursday, December 28, 2006 - 10:23 am:

This Flag was put up mostly for fun , but also for alot of us Men who go to Sea everyday, who consider ourselves modern day good pirates of the sea, there is nothing demonic or deathlike intended at all,Quite the opposite, its more like something we can get a laugh out of when coming from a hard day at Sea ,Another thing, that alot people may not know is that it is a huge part of our history in Treasure Beach, just a few weeks ago another Cannon was found in our waters, this cannon would probably date back to the 1400 to 1500 hundreds, when the real pirates existed. People who have travelled would surely understand that pirate memrobilia is used all over the world in modern day for promotional material for fun, and we havent had one guest that stayed at Sunset who hasnt got a good laugh out of it. I appologive if it has offended some people, but would also recommend that the people offended not travel to anywhere like Florida or Las Vegas for example, where you see pirate memrobilia on almost every street corner and most restaraunts. All in fun people all in fun. Question ,can we vote how many want it taken down, and how many want it left up, I will let you all decide. Look forward to the response.

Maybe this flag should be replaced with the Jamaican Flag and that would make everyone happy.

Even though it is on private property if it seems threating to the community for peace and harmony amongst all it could be a good thing to remove it.

The Fishermen especially might be offended by this flag because of what it really represent---Robbery of ships on the high seas/attacking others at sea.
It's the way the only way they see it so, please let's take that fear away and in a very nice way (Remove It) Thank you.

Wheather you are aware of it or not that is a symbol of death.

I will forgive you for not knowing but now that you know.

Lets be more creative and find a better symbol to laugh at that is definately not a joke.

Lets do the positivee and leave the negative alone.

Think and do positive and positive fill follow.

TAKE IT DOWN! TAKE IT DOWN! TAKE IT DOWN! TAKE IT DOWN!!!!!!!!.

I am mad (upset)I was broght up in Great Bay. Love GB and Treasure Beach on a whole with a passion. Most of you who are older than a teenage would know me. Not living there now.

But cannot think of anywhere I would rather live when I decide to leave the cold and come home.

good grief land lovers take a chill pill...it's old fashion humor!!! nothing else! I really do not get all the donkey slinging!! focus on something other than a funny cheap replica of Disney's pirates of the Caribbean. Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageÝLink to this messageÝÝBy ME on Saturday, December 30, 2006 - 03:51 am:

I see that some people do not understand the seriousness of that Flag.

Yes, we want the roads fixed and the old pipe that carry the drinking water change. That is definately one of the causes I would like to support. I also believe that the increase in cancer in our community is a result of the old asbestos pipes. We want these issues taken care of.

But! that flag is today and we can do something about it now, be conscious of what happens around you. It is because of things like those why so many countries around the world are in trouble

ignore the little things and then they become a monster later that cannot be fixed.

We are no longer in the pirate days and I don't believe anyone would like to see those days again. If you want to honour the days of the Pirate since it is part of our history then build a Musium and put all the artifac in there so people can go and learn about it.

Dont fly that thing in our community.

Thanks for the response about the land. I would like as close to the beach as possible. So that I can go as often as I like. When I lived in GB I went almost every day. I love to swim.

Anyway if that is not possible I will take the next best. Inland is ok as long as there is a way to get to it and get electricity and water. Can't get the beach. I will build a pool and fill it with sea water. I would like the land to be big enough so that I can grow Orginic vegetables for my personal use

I am into taking good care of my health and don't want to come and deal with the chemicals Don't

I want to continue to use my food for my medecine

I have also done a lot of studies and research on natural living and healing the body with herbs etc.

I am sure that this is something I would like to teach the young people and the community on a whole.

We don't have to die early and be sick we just need the knowledge to take care of the one Body that God has given to us.

One Love, walk good.

Have a happy and blessed New year

(Put God first and he will give you the desires of your heart)

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageÝLink to this messageÝÝBy it's fine where it is on Saturday, December 30, 2006 - 09:50 am:

Anybody who knows Kory, knows he has a great sense of humour. It is his premesis, and let's face it, Sunset Resort is a place that derives it's business (and commerce) from foreign tourists for the most part. Having travelled the world, the things that ultimately end up in my photo albums are things - usually silly things such as this where I have a memory of fun and good times. I would bet you that since that flag has been up (which must be pretty new because I don't remember it from my times living in Treasure Beach) many tourists have had their picture taken in front of it (and the sea). No harm done. Kory has a right to decorate his place the way that fits his sense of humour and his tourists sense of fun! Just as other places decorate the way they do. Pirates ran rampant in those waters for a century or two (and apparently they still do). Make it stay. You won't lose business by having it up, or perhaps you will (but it will just be those complaining about it which wouldn't be a bad thing).

By the way... doesn't Floyd have a skull and crossbones above his Pelican Bar? Last reach for me I seem to recall one? Perhaps I should dig through my photos to see for sure!! If so, is that a problem for anyone? He is actually IN the sea where "the pirates" are.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageÝLink to this messageÝÝBy Arghhhh on Saturday, December 30, 2006 - 10:17 am:

Perhaps is the historical significance which has ruffled some feathers. In the 1600's, Jamaica was governed by the pirate Henry Morgan's uncle, and Henry himself was the guy in charge of the military - no doubt thems were troublin' times. (My attempt at pirate talk)Most have adopted the Hollywood version of pirates as the swashbuckling, cryptic map following, underdogs of the sea, hunting for buried treasure. (oh and yes, I am a huge fan of Captain Jack Sparrow - J. Depp)

It's an image that contradicts the factual nature of their existence. Much like us here in the states, celebrating Columbus day! We teach the kids that he discovered America, and how grrrreat he was but in reality... he was a murderous tyrant who completely annihilated entire indigenous peoples.

Is the flag politically incorrect? Probably.
Do I think it should be taken down? -shrug-

Perhaps you could draw a circle with slash (as a no smoking sign has) and place it over said pirate.

:-)

Well, it has been very intersting indeed and although the vote to keep the flag up was 7 and the ladder was 6 , I have opted to take it down. It was by no means ever my intention to offend anyone but I can understand the issues.Just to note we have always flown a Jamaican Flag at Sunset Resort.

I've seen the flag. Though it wasn't something I personally would have selected for decor, I never found it offensive. What I find so interesting about this flag debate is that Kory obviously reads TB.net, is clearly sensitive to the feelings of others in the community, and responds to criticism (warranted or not) in a timely manner. Wouldn't it be nice if others did the same? Though my family and I are longtime villa renters, I would recommend Sunset to others based solely on Kory's caring and responsiveness. I believe we need more of that in the community and on this Forum. If some others whose names I shall not mention did not hold themselves in such high esteem and cared enough to take the time and effort to be as open and responsive as Kory, there would be a lot less negativity on this site. Bravo to Kory. I applaud you. And I wish you a Happy New Year.

Korey asked for a vote and people responded asking to have the flag removed and he has granted to do so.
People of Treasure Beach with all the evil that is going on in the world including our "Little Jamaica" let us all not forget the good that was and will still be in case of another "IVAN".

Seems people have very short term memories.
Live good among each other please.

I second what Celeste has said. Maybe 2007 will bring a greater degree of responsiveness and transparency from the business owners in Treasure Beach, as well as the other entities that are associated with the community we love so much. When a question is asked, all we want is a straightforward answer, whether or not we agree with the response. In turn, the business owners who play atraight with us deserve all the support we can give them. We need each other.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ONE AND ALL.
