Ruby Parchment, otherwise called Aunt Rubes was born and raised in the community of Great Bay, St. Elizabeth. She has been an active member of the Salvation Army since childhood where she has served as Corps Sergent Major and Sunday School teacher for the past twenty-five years. Her teachings still linger in the minds of many and have made a significant impact on lives so far.

Aunt Rubes as she is affectionately called by everyone because of her unbiased and gentle ways is the mother of five who firmly believes that a child should be loved unconditionally but should also be chastised when the need arises because children tend to act on what they are taught.

When asked how she thinks the community has changed, she explained that living conditions have vastly improved, such as public utilities and better infrastructures. She also states that the young people of the community are more ambitious and will further strive to achieve their goals. She further states that a few things have not changed like the warmth of the people and the fact that Great Bay remains a peaceful vacation destination.

She also advises the people to continue living in a peaceful mode and to trust God because he is our provider and sustainer.

If my memory serves me correct I think there are two Ms.Ruby in Great Bay. Are you sure you have the correct picture? The one featured is Miss Ruby (Sparks)Parchment and the Aunt Rube that I know lives right there by Great Bay seaside and she is a prominent member of the Salvation Army Church. I think the lady featured is a Seventh Day Adventist.Pardon me if I am wrong.

Thank you so very much Pedro Peeps. You were absolutely right!! I was told to go and take a photo of Miss Ruby Parchment and the photo you see is of the Miss Ruby that I know personally.

When I went to the school this morning and asked the student which Miss Ruby, she immediately told me I had the wrong one!

The following photo is the correct Miss Ruby Parchment and I sincerely apologize for the mix up.

missruby

I will say what a pleasure it was to meet Aunt Rubes. She is a beautiful woman, so I asked her if 'in the day' she had many suitors. She told me there were so many she got tired of it. She then proceeded to tell me how even though she is 83, she still has marriage proposals regularly. She then pointed into her home and said, "But see in there, that is my husband. Him de lucky one who get thru!"

In those few moments I realized I was in the presence of a great woman!

And to those who know and love the other Miss Ruby, we promise to highlight her as a Profile of the Month very soon.

Again, apologies for this mix-up and as soon as the webmaster gets this message he will make the corrections to the top photo.

We got the right picture at the top of the page, finally. Sorry for the mis-identification.

And Rebecca, your story about meeting the 'real' Aunt Rubes made me smile. Ain't it cool how something that's 'wrong' has a silver lining.

Beautiful profile of Miss Ruby
Everytime I see this lady she is always laughing and has some nice words for me. She has a way of hugging, like she's never gonna let you go. She's very special to me, and I can remember visits to her house and watching her play board games. Love you lots Miss Ruby

RIP Mom, just seeing this picture makes me start crying all over again. You were such a wonderful Mom, we were never wanting anything. You made sure we always have something to eat even when you are not sure what that will be or where it will come from. You were such a hard worker, always tending to your goats and cows. I miss you so much Mom, its hard to get it through my head that you are really gone. I love you, I know you are singing in Heaven with little Wadie right there on your lap.....
