I have had mixed messages regarding scorpions in Jamaica. I have come to the Treasure Beach side of Jamaica with my young children for the past 8 years, and wonder if anyone knows the type of scorpion found in this area? I am a nurse and the thought of scorpions don't concern me vey much, but having young children that forget to check inside their shoes etc..I just would like to know how toxic the scorpions are here. I have only ever seen 2 (both vey small). Thank you for any information you might have..I feel as though being prepared is always a good thing :-)

In my 15 years of living here I have only seen about 4 and they were in a damp place and small.

I believe due to the typical dryness of the area, you will not find them as prevelent as the more humid and wet North Coast.

I understand there are no scorpions in the TB area. I have often asked the question and have always received negative replies.

As to actual scorpions found inland and in the hills I don't know the name of the species present but I do know they tend to be small 2.5 inches and, furthermore. I also understand the general rule is that the smaller the scorpion the worse the sting! This certainly applies to those in Africa and the far east
