Water. Water .My good folks in TB i understand you have to take out the pans and drums again, and wait for the water truck.Look like we will have to go back to the wells ,are start thinking about someone coming to TB to invest in the water business.TB do have a lots of springs.
We've been getting rain this week, so the water shortage should be rectified or at least eased.
As a young girl growing up in TB I can remember setting pans, pots, plastic tubs but, most of all my mom drums would over-flow from rain water.
Today people rely only on pipe water and ave no back-up if it is turned off for long periods at a time.
Wake-up everyone, get some water containers start fulling up wit rain water as in times gone.It is so nice to was our clotes also.Sorry for my spelling but two of my keys are completly stuck as you can see .(But we are not - ere to judge)
Start planting some vegetables, grains etc, etc. Rainy season is coming.
I heard that the lack of water was due to broken equipment that is involved in the delivery mechanism. Is this info correct? or was it due to lack of rainfall(supply)?
Anyone that is familiar with or still lived in the area would realize that a larger percent of the population has Rhino Tuff Tanks or concrete tanks (even water pumps). Still, what happens when there is a drought and there is now water in the tap? How do we replenish our reserves, after 2 weeks of water shortage without a cheap alternate water supply? Not everyone can buy water from the trucks.
All I saying is please access before becoming a critic.
Thanks tweety bird, water catchment and treatment is high on my design list.
So is reforestation of my land with local trees.
If push comes to shove check out solar distillation. Can be made in a basic work shop with hardware shop items.
Water come back as soon as it start raining. You figure it out.Water is a precious commodity we all need let us not waste it but, treat it like gold/food.We never miss it till we loose it.
We are in the 21st century and still depending on catching the rain water. While tgis may replenish our aquaphor, underground water, wells and help the farmers I had preached this before and here again mentioning it. DESALINATION, Jamaica is an island Water,Water everywhere, Government need to look into this. Citizen need to cry out. Other countries had done this, nothing new, no need to reinvent the wheel, We have the solar power to run the show. It will creat jobs, water, salt, and other amenities.
Why dont someone look into this. UWI, School of Engineering, PhD candidates, Professors. Someday jump on this please. Necessity is the mother of inventions.
Thank you SojiO ,well said.Manner don,t fall from heaven anymore .We have to try helping ourself, and lets BIG UP the folks that trying to do some cultivation in TB.use alot of mulch ,and avoid chemical(FERTILIZER).Thanks everyone for your positive input. We have to think the next generation.
Cage the Rhino tuff tanks you mention are these the same big black tanks that most people use at present?. If so how safe, for drinking water?(just concern about lead poisoning.
Cage: No one was critizing just giving out ideas
of good intentions.May be everyone can afford to buy water from a truck but to build a tank is lots of money for many.
The Rhino tuff tanks are made for drinking water storage, and yes, those are the big black tanks.
Yes SojiO and all interested in harvesting the suns energy; check out redrok.com for some good solar links and technology.
How about some sponsored high school appropriate design competitions. If there is money looking for a sensible avenue here is one.
Heliostats and Sterling engines are makeable with a good workshop. A large focussing mirror boils water and a heat engine using the produced steam turning a generator producing electricity.
Rhino tanks worked well for me for 20 years.
There is evidence of substances in some? plastics finding their way into the stored water.
Certainly encourage reintroduction of water storage tanks incorporated into house design. Cisterns that were under some early houses have a cooling effect.
we were curious as to what it would cost for a 12 yr. old girl to attend school there in TB. we would like to help a young lady we met while on vacation there.
Hello, Bridget. If you want to contact me via e-mail or telephone, please feel free to do so, and I can give you some figures and suggestions. There are so many variables, it would be more productive if we discussed this young lady's situation one-on-one. Please be prepared to tell me where she will be attending school, as well as her grade level. I hope I can assist you.
I ask you to do this sooner rather than later, because I am making preparations to go down to Treasure Beach next week.
karen, yes i am interested in talking with you about schooling. please give me you phone # and i will get in touch with you, thanks again.
Go to the Donation Info page under Treasure Beach Foundation. It's there.
