Amy: Like Holbox Island 3 hours north of Cancun,
Bocas has seen a fair share of Texas-based realty
companies moving in, some offering free junkets
and heavy sales pressure to buy-- but there's still a sense of rough and raw. And the red frogs in the maritime island parks are inviolable. Look at Punta Caracol overwater bungalows there if you need more luxe amenities. Holbox might be a quicker escape, tho reports of some West Coast guests already kvetching about the lack of 'micro greens' might send up a red flag...

I wonder if Amy has a link to those wonderful older Treasure Beach pictures? Of course the old link no longer works, but when weather or whatever got me down, I'd go to those pics of Chef and the others and my spirits would brighten. The other Peace Corps pics were great too.

I just got an email from Miss Amy, who is currently working as a Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist for the Global AIDS program in Malawi in southeastern Africa.

It has more of her wonderful photographs and also some great narrative on what's she's been doing over the past week.

You can view it at http://www.amygottlieb.net/
There are links to past blog entries along the upper right of the site.

Is this the same Miss.Amy that used to be at the Sandy Bank primary School?
If it is then I can say she is one beautiful lady, very gentle and a lover of life

Yes, it is the same Miss Amy, and you are absolutely correct, she is one beautiful lady from deep inside all the way to the outside.

I hope someday she will be recognized by the community for the time and work she put in.

Dear All,

I am so flattered and honored to be recognized by TB.net (and by all of your beautiful comments)! I cherish the many years I spent in Jamaica - and find it hard to believe that I left the island over twelve years ago! Granted, Jamaica remains 'home' in my heart...and I will always find a way to return to the place that has become such an integral part of my life!

Treasure Beach is a unique community - the people and the environs are unlike anywhere in the world! As much as I love the work that I am doing in Malawi, it still doesn't compare to my time working in Sandy Bank Primary and Basic School, God's School, and the numerous hours spent side by side with members of the community as we tackled issues of domestic violence, drug abuse, and HIV/AIDS. And I must say, I am most proud of the work that went into the Treasure Beach Off-Road Triathlon - which is now in its 14th year! Many Kudos to all of you for continuing this amazing race after all these years!

This is the first year in over a decade that I haven't been able to return to Jamaica! Airfare and time off is a little difficult from Africa...but I will be back!

Much love and respect!
Miss Amy

Miss Amy, I applaud and commend you for the work that you have and are doing. I hope that you received the consent of the individuals whose pics you posted, at the various HIV/AIDS clinics. They deserve to have medical privacy rights equal to those afforded patients and individuals in the West. If you didn't get their consent, then maybe you may be more mindful of that in the future. Hope you continue to have a positive impact while on your journey call life.
