Frenchman's/Calabash beach bars?

Have any new bars opened up since last years Ivan disaster? We're staying at Coconut Cottage and I'm curious if there any new businesses such as beer or rum bars or even any new restaurants?
While any new business would be nice, there is something special about any that are located on or near the beach! I know about the place called The Wild Onion but since Chef has nothing to do with it, I think I'll pass. I wonder why they chose not to give it a new name? By the same token, I also hope there are no closings to report.
Mike

I'd give the Wild Onion a chance. (in my humble opinion) The food is great and as Stuart mentioned in another post, there is the dancehall / bar area , dining area and cocktail lounge. (That's my favorite part.)

The cocktail lounge is comprised of strategically placed concrete seats, which are covered with lovely colorful foam seat bottoms and backs. Each area has a large "coffee table" type slab. This area is best visited at night time when the several lamps illuminate the area giving it a classy, romantic, comfortable feeling. It's a nice place to kick back, relax and listen to the music.

I second that Mair, and don't forge the two billards tables.

Stuart took me round Wild Onion in early December, just as they were finishing off the building work. It looked like it was going to be a great complement to all the other entertainment places in Frenchman's. I hear things are going down really well there - can't wait to see it in March!

Wild Onion is just up the lane located across from Golden Sands Guest House. Or just past the plaza housing the Q-EN Restaurant and store.

And can someone assure me there is no history between the present owner and Chef, the former owner? I never said I didn't think it didn't have good food or atmosphere. If I'm mistaken (and I certainly could be), I'll be there in a few short weeks.

Hearts of Love Cafe, otherwise known as "the bakery", is located just up from The Treasure Beach Hotel.

Mike, the amount of time that I saw Chef hanging out at the Wild Onion, I think it's a safe bet to assume that everything is cool.

He told me some good jokes there. LoL

Hey, If someone could get a message to Stuart, let him know that I got some rockin' pictures of the chickens in the trees - perhaps he'd like some Wild Onion postcards? HA!

Is Stuart(who made the original announcement about the reopening) from Great Bay? And what is his connection to the new Wild Onion?

Surely, the coolest daytime beach bar is Eggies "Sea Crab" on the beach at Frenchmans? He has opened it up again hasn't he? The work to repair hurricane damage was well under way when I was there in November

I am very sorry to inform you of a fire which burned the new section of Wild Onion last night. My understanding is the fire started shortly after the bar closed for the night.

The good news is the old section was not affected, so let's hope they will be able to re-open soon using the old section while they rebuild.

Our sympathies go out to all who have been affected by this fire and we wish the Wild Onion a fast recovery.

Are the "Chickens in the trees" ok?
I hope they didn't get caught up in the fire.

It was only the building housing the bar which burned thanks, once again, to neighbors and friends coming out to help put the flames out. Fortunately, the kitchen, billards room, dining and lounge areas are all fine.

I am happy to report that the Wild Onion will be open on Friday night and the pool tournament will be held as originally planned!

it sounds like chef and quest had quite a scare they were the first to sound the alarm and in all the confusion they lost track of each other and thought the other was lost in the fire it was so loud they couldn't here their calls to each other and so they became very distraught as you can imagine they would but soon found all were safe
