Hi everybody,
My daughter and I be travelling from Canada for a week's stay in T.B. I would like to bring some items to donate to the local school. I was thinking along the lines of educational DVD's etc I'm a light travellor so I'm not into carrying heavy text books. Any suggestions ?
How about food stuff items for my stay? I understand some of the imported dry/can goods are quite expensive there.

Mike

Mike just go to Ja and eat all the good Jamacian food.Find a place with a good cook and you should not have any complaints.Ask the people they will be more than happy to help you out.Forget about can stuff. If you drink your coffee light then take packets of coffee-mate and some refreshing ice tea mixes. If your daughter like pop then there is no problem.I tell you what send that wonderful Rebecca an email and she will put you in the right direction on both subjects.

Food is not inexpensive on island, and imported goods can be pricey. Think how you both eat and then plan to bring a few things with you, bubble-wrapped in your carry-on luggage for glass items.
Have your airport transfers/pick-up driver stop
on arrival day with you at either SuperPlus supermarket in Bogue Plaza or the cluster of shops at Westgate Plaza for wine, liquour, coffeebeans, dairy, cheese, kids' foods/snacks, dry goods, some 'exotics' on island like broccoli and cilantro -- but rarely a big selection of freshfruit/veg. The Whitehouse harborside market is worth a stop for those. Ditto roadside sellers en route to TB. Otherwise, your cook
in Treasure Beach will do all your marketing, generally in Junction or Black River. But this way, you can help her in advance...

Many of the small cook shops have good Jamaican food at prices well below what they would cost at any take out place in the US. And you get fresh vegies, chicken, & fish (not just canned gunk). Nothing fancy, just large portions of healthy down home food. Don't be afraid to eat where the locals eat.

I love to eat at the likkle cookshops. I carry peanut butter for my freinds kids.

I carry pancake mix cause it can cheaply feed a crowd and even I can cook them.

(I bought HORRIBLE pancake mix in southfield once so I carry my own)
