Thank you all for your sentiments and support. I'm sure Eric is laughing as he is reading these comments. It has been suggested before, and I have declined. I would prefer to see life long TB residents profiled. I guess I am just a shy gyal at heart.

Rebecca you know myself and many,many others love you but, you are doing the right thing by declining.I really think it should be a born citizen of Treasure Beach.
I would recommend Sharon Swaby Noxi's wife, daughter of Miss Girlie (you know that pleasant wonderful lady).
Most of the older generations has already been profiled and the ones that wern't are dead like a Lady by the name of Atilly Ebanks she was such a good and kind person to many in TB.I felt her kindness in many ways as a child growing up and she is dearly missed.

I will tell you that my grandparents on both sides of my family were born in Holland and migrated to America, making me 2nd generation American with loads of Dutch influence in my upbringing. One thing well known of the Dutch is our stubborness, right Eric?!?!?!

Rebecca; we understand that the proflies were intended for life long residents of Treasure Beach, however your never failing efforts to the people of Treasure Beach (including those like myself living abroad)deserves some form of recognition. There are still many of us whom have never had the opportunity of meeting you, therefore making the profile would be an excellent idea, for us to see the "Florence Nightengale of Treasure Beach".

I hope you will reconsider; then you can tell us your about your Dutch upbringing..we want to hear more.

I'd like you all to know I am getting quite a kick out of this thread. Being Rebecca's business partner and good friend for several years now, I know just how frustrating it is to try to do something nice for her.

Here's what else I know:
1) She is probably the most deserving person to be profiled

2) I tried to put her up on the profile of the month after Ivan and found our she was uncomfortable with it

3) I will not, out of respect for her and fear of my own personal safety :-), try it again!

4) One of the most interesting parts of the profile has always been the comments that people put up afterwards. So why not just keep posting your comments and stories about Rebecca here?

Rebecca is the kind of person who will, as she stated in another post, get up at 2am since she has to go to Kingston and the roads are out, use a bicycle pump to pump up CAR tires, and then drive over intrepid roads in a tropical storm, then walks the remaining mile when the car can go no further. This is an example of that Dutch stubbornness!

She is also the kind of person who, if you called her at 2am and told her that YOU had to get to Kingston, she'd do the same damn fool thing! This is an excellent example of her kindness and caring for others.

Rebecca is the kind of person who would rescue the ugliest, skiniest most pathetic looking dog ever, after it was abandoned along the road by its owner who starved the poor thing. And then, she caller him Ranger. The poor thing could hardly stand up. She put her love and her money into his recovery. Now, he's strong, handsome, healthy and protective. She would do the same for anyone and has, for many.

i have never had the pleasure of meeting Rebecca, but i do know that she always seems to be in the thick of it, reaching out and helping. on a personal level, she has always been there when ive needed to find out quickly about familly and friends.
as deserving as it is, i also understand her reluctance at the recognition, it seems the ones that do the most good, tend to do so behind the scenes. the powers that be, could do well by learning this lesson.
Also, being a dog lover, the story about the "mauga dawg" would have made me a Rebecca fan, if i wasnt one already.

Mayor why not MP because the current one whom since, I've been using this forum have never seen a comment or input from and this site definately keep you in touch with people at home and aboard. So if we are too busy in the office to come out why not send a email to the people of TBeach. I've read time and time again when Miss Rebecca is going here and there just to keep us inform. REBECCA you are clearly the brightest Treasure in Treasure Beach please don't shy away from the praise you deserve, I keep in touch with my home town because of you.

I have to agree with Nige. I have never met Rebecca. But, I depended on her after Ivan as I have during this flooding for word of my family & freinds.

Like Nige I am also a dog lover. So that is more points in her favor.

I bet that dog would lay down his life to protect his mistress if need be.

Rebecca our angel, picked my daughter up from Tranquility Bay after her two needed years there, and gave her a couple of days of Jamaican (and Dutch) love and laughter. Between getting their nails done, and swatting the men away from my gorgeous daughter, Rebecca gave Elizabeth the time of her life and for that I will forever hold her in my heart.

Don't even get me started. Rebecca, the godmother of my youngest,the most amazing friend and in-law anyone could ever hope for. There is not a more wonderful, caring person on the face of this earth. Proud to be able to call myself a friend. If we were to write a book I could fill pages.

I think and would agree with Meme for suggesting Rebecca to be the next M.P. because the ones we have had over the years have not done anything dramatic to make a difference ...........or if they did we have to beg hard and "wait and see". Rebecca has made a difference in T.B. and showed great interest in the people and T.B. Rebecca thanks for being so humble. God bless you always, peace, happiness and good health to you.

I don't know this "Rebecca", but she sounds like an incredible person. I will be visiting TB in 6 days and would love to have more information from the locals in TB. We've been waiting 6 months to come to your island, and can't wait to meet the wonderful people we've heard so much about.

Rebecca has taught me about how to be a community member who builds up the community. None of the travel agent who "markets an image" without reality for her! When Ivan hit and we could not get through on the phone, she went out and checked on all the family members and friends who we love, and told us they were OK. Then she worked full time on the relief effort for months, and kept us all informed. She searched out people in the greatest need and tried to always act fairly.

And let's not forget Eric, who hung in there day and night, keeping the only means of communcation open!

We may never meet you, since you want us to experience the people born in Treasure Beach. We still appreciate the way you help this community keep its best traits.

i would like to bigup miss rebecca too, the lady is a good lady. she look after every body even peaple she do not even know. i would like to say thanks to her for looking after miss clem how being sick an in the hospital many thanks.

Is Clem still in the hospital? I wish her a speedy recovery she was good to my child when she needed help and I am sure she has been good to othere also.Get well soon.
