Is it not time to organize a demonstration over the water situation in Treasure beach. Are other persons having difficulty with water.By the way, does anybody know how to reach the member of parliament. The councilor is having meetings with water commision but it seems like the service of the M.P. is needed.Where is He.

Seems like someone has a political agenda. I thought this website had a policy banning political and religious references. Seems to me "resident" should contact the MP's office for his whereabouts. I wonder if the councilor sees it fit to work in unison with him or is politics at play here? Et tu Brute?

The water situation in Treasure Beach is out of control. Water is the breath of life. If we can't get water then I don't know what else to say.

Did anyone made a complaint to water commission? Treasure Beach residents are too laid back we all need to get involved.
We all need to step up and take action.... So let's start by calling our MPs office... Roads need to fix call MP office, undesirable in the neighborhood call the police station. If you see something, say something.

Agree with all the above, I don't live in TB but own a home there and last Summer I was told of water shortage for 2 months and still got charge for the regular amount anyway. Such a rip off.

I am hearing of road blocks happening throughout Treasure Beach right now. Unfortunately, I am not in Treasure Beach so I cannot take photos.

A picture after the police had arrive and broken up the road block. You can see branches that were used for the blockage.

We have made complaints to the Water Commission--as have MANY others. Still, there is essentially no water in the pipe. We are expecting to be charged for no water and will have to pay to get water delivered. This makes no sense.

The citizens of St. Elizabeth and the rest of the country as a matter of fact are tax paying people, therefore, they have every rights to let their voices be heard when they are NOT getting their basic needs met. I would like to know how letting your voices be heard on the issue of lack of water and deplorable roads have a political agenda. Are the people to just sit back, pay their taxes, and mind you, every month there is a water bill that has to be paid, regardless if you are getting water or not; land taxes; food taxes; gas taxes and the list goes on and on. So here is my question- Should the people continue to accept incompetent leaders to lead? I sincerely hope not. As Bob Marley song says "Get up, stand up: stand up for your rights!

These kinds of issues happens in most third world countries. The M.P. is technically not at fault here, although he/she is the point person in situations like this. This is just one of the "perks" that come with being a politician!

Contact was made with an official of NWC today who stated mechanical problems as the main reason for the lack of water. He said the problem was being repaired and should be functioning again by this weekend so provided that goes according to plan we should be seeing water by this weekend.

Efforts are also being made to arrange a community meeting with officials of the NWC. Once I hear any further details I will pass them on.

I sure do hope and pray water comes on the pipes very soon to all those who haven't had it in a long while and I hope and pray we have an orderly and constructive meeting with the NWC officials.

To From Yard, please do not assume persons who are not publicly vocal are silent. I myself can't tell you how many phone calls I have made to various persons at the NWC.

We all have reason to be extremely frustrated with this water situation but let us take a deep breath and remember anger rarely solves any issues. Let us keep level heads, work together as a community, and put our energies into pressuring the appropriate people at the NWC to work out a solution to this situation quickly.

A meeting with the NWC and our MP has been confirmed for 2 pm on Thurs at Calvary Assemblies of God Church in Frenchman's, Treasure Beach.

We are hoping this meeting will help us to understand the issues facing the NWC as well as to help find compromises and solutions to the water shortage.

NWC better handle their responsibilities or we will take them from them.

We will remove them from their position for their incompetence.

Last chance to make it right NWC and MP....

I am personally Fed up, I spend an hour a day checking tanks and turning valves, our pumps have to run all day and this cost a lot, on top of that the NWC sent me and estimated Bill for 18,000 JMD for last month, and we didn't have a drop of water, in fact paid over 50,000.00 for trucks to deliver, I am not paying this bill.[edited by TB.Net]

If you don't have water, you cannot live.

This is a very serious thing.

Time for some consequences!

you think a joke?

The telephone company charges when they provide no land line service. The water company charges when they provide no water. If this would happen in the United States, people would complain and complain and not pay a bill for something they did not receive. And, yes, their elected officials would do something about the situation. Quickly.

If a hotel charged a bill but provided no room, people would be crazy to pay. If a restaurant charged for no meal, who would pay them to look at an empty plate?

How can Jamaican utilities get away with providing no service and then actually charge people for nothing--and then charge a penalty plus a re-connection fee if they refuse to pay a bill for receiving nothing?

This situation is not only ridiculous, but it is dangerous. As we have learned after major hurricanes, you need water before you need food.

I am sure the NWC is "facing challenges." (EVERY business faces challenges.) But providing water is the NWC's responsibility. We want water, not excuses.

So true, the light company, the water company and phone company in Jamaica are a big rip off they continue to charge the people big money every month for services not provided and they can get away with it. They charge $1,600 a month for my house phone that I don't even use.

My heart goes out to everyone for this terrible water situation.
I think it is time for all to seriously think about going back to building tanks and have prayer meetings asking for help from above for rain so the suffering wont be this bad.

When I was a little girl the wells and the rain was our only way of getting water and I think there is going to come a time when that will be the only choice for our community again, [edited by TB.Net]
Do not wait for his help just try to do the best we can to help ourselves.

As for the roads that is another subject that never seems to ever get resolved.
SHAME..SHAME..
As the saying goes "what comes around goes around"
Today for us tomorrow for you...."you will one day feel what we are feeling right now"

This is not a joke! the government needs to give the people of South St.Elizabeth some answers. It's time we stand up [edited by TB.Net]. Some people in Treasure Beach has a loud voice when it benefits them! well lets hear the same voice when other people are suffering, that silent voice could make a difference... who knows. Just fed up with the water situation!!!!!! People can't decide if they should come for Calabash as they might not have water.

After so many weeks of suffering the very same day the demonstration was done water was in many pipe lines. How could it have happen so quickly? Its a shame that persons have to resort to this kind of behaviour to get the attention of the authority.

Awesome that residents taking action and getting results. I would not pay one red cent for a service that I did not receive. Build or buy tanks, fill it yourself and learn how to conserve and use and re-use water properly. There's a lot of information at your finger tips, just have to put it into play. Money is and always will be a factor but motivation or lack of it seems to stop many in their tracks. Get off the System, it doesn't work, never has. You can do more with your money and time for yourselves. I still remember one pipe in Frenchman and catching water in a bucket, we survived and will always survive. Getting use to convenience which it isn't is making people soft. Who pays a bill for services not received? this is not the first time and most definitely won't be the last. They can say what the problem is or was but it still doesn't change the fact that you're all getting ripped off. POWER TO THE PEOPLE. 1LOVE always TB

I find it "interesting" about where water ALWAYS seems to be supplied by the NWC as opposed to those who nearly always get the short end of the stick. The same goes for road repairs.
