If this information is true, thanks to the Saint Elizabeth Parish Council for confirming that farming is permitted in the community of Treasure Beach. This supports the national effort to grow Jamaica.
The chemicals used are considered safe by the Government of Jamaica.
Those that have been complaining about their exposure to pesticide spraying must understand that these practices are guided by our government through various agencies. Any further information should be addressed to the relevant agencies.
What information are you referring to?
?????? Completely out of the blue. You've lost me there. Please explain?
I was told of the Parish Council's rule of residential farming by a researcher, if it is not true, please let me know.
The government does support pesticide use. There is a restricted list, I hope none of these are being used.
At this moment we are downwind of a commercial farming operation in Great Bay spraying. We do not even know what we are breathing and do not believe the operators nor owners know either. We do not know if they or the government care.
It means that the air we breath in Treasure Beach contains whatever is sprayed. I believe over 50% of these substances go into the air.
If this is allowed in this community which aspires to be on the path of sustainable community development we may be poisoning more than the pests which are supposed to be eliminated and making a mockery of our intent.
With the support of those whose mandate is to protect.
Is this so? If not let's hear it.
And you ready believe the Jamaican Government cares about its citizens regarding what's "consider safe"pesticide being used?
"...these practices are guided by our government..." An oxymoron I believe.
All communities should be encouraged to farm, it's a step towards independence and sustainable development.
Any decision that may have been made that allows farming in Treasure Beach must have been a 1920's directive. Just before DDT, chlordane and now .......
It certainly needs reconsidering, if it is so.
