CHILD organization

What is CHILD
With its main office in Boston, Massachusetts, CHILD is a non-profit organization founded in 1994 by Dr. Glasceta Honeyghan. The idea behind the organization looks at how the explosive growth of single parenting, lack of job opportunities, and other challenges impact many children’s lives, so that to receive a basic education poses severe hardships for some children and families. CHILD is an acronym for Community Helps in Literacy Drive, suggesting that a group of community people will endeavor to assist in literacy efforts to assist children and their families in obtaining a basic education.

CHILD’s Objectives
CHILD’s main objective is to assist children and their families in Jamaica, who are facing economic hardship in receiving a basic education.

CHILD provides assistance in the following areas:
•monies to assist individual children, families, schools.
•educational supplies such as books, computers, copy machine
•serve as advocates to assist individual children and families

How is CHILD funded
We are funded solely by fundraising efforts.

Membership
CHILD has a Boston-based chapter of about 100 members, a southern St. Elizabeth-based chapter, a Manchester-based chapter, and a St. Ann-Based chapter. CHILD is constantly recruiting ordinary people who are interested in assisting others who struggle on a daily basis, to provide for their children.

Child foundation has been instrumental in aiding children in the community with attaining educational goals. This is so important to focus on the education of the young people. I applaud the fine efforts of the child foundation members. It take a whole village to raise a child. Thanks for your loving support.

Hi MilwaukeeMike:
Thank you for posting these great pictures. So often we forget to look outside ourselves and look at others who suffer from severe adversities, such as this awful hurricane. Yes, many of these victims' lives were spared, but many suffer tremendous blows to the psyche, after losing just about everything else.

Hi there to you wonderful folks who are in tune with the Great Treasure Beach web site. This is just to let you know that here in Florida, we are running around frantically, getting ready for the great storm--Hurricane Frances--which is twice as strong as Charley and which is supposed to hit us sometime tomorrow.

Can you imagine! But we are trying to prepare for the BIG ONE and hope for the best

Good luck, Glasceta. Hopefully some of your inspirational thoughts you've posted here can help see you and everyone living from the Turks to the Bahamas through Florida and beyond through whatever happens with Frances.

As many thoughts and inspiration as you have provided for us over the years, we are sending back two fold to you Dr. Honeyghan!

Our thoughts and prayers are with all who are in Frances' path as there are many of us here who have family and friends living on the east coast of Florida.

Hurricane Francis

I want to express thanks and appreciation for the families, friends, and well-wishers who share in our horrible experience with Hurricane Francis (which by the way is still ravaging parts of Florida). This experience has had an extraordinary effect on my life. I won't ever be the same. It's amazing how much you miss something as simple as a cup of tea during these dreadful times. My heart goes out to those who suffer severe damages and who have lost loved ones.
