Thank you so much Mr Patterson. I feel vindicated. Perhaps the naysayers will get the point now that you have spoken.
I have been trying to highlight the need for better roads in Treasure Beach, for the longest while, to the point where some people were getting upset, mainly because or lack of understanding that NGOs makes powerful lobby groups, and sometimes that is all it takes to get the authorities to notice and to act. Thank you very much.

That road from Sandy Bay to Mandeville is part of the planned route for Highway 2000, which was conceptualized and started during Mr. Patterson’s tenure as Prime Minister. The more direct route to south St. Elizabeth would be through Milk River in southern Clarendon – to Alligator Pond in south Manchester and on through Junction to Treasure Beach and Black River. (RJR News On Line)

What a fine opportunity to open up some of J'ca's most pristine natural resources, such as the Milk River Spa (its mineral properties, reputedly the most radioactively beneficial healing waters in the known world for the improvement of such ailments of rheumatism, gout, lumbago); Canoe Valley, the Alligator Hole River, Guts River & beach, God's Hole, and the coastal drive for some natural fresh fish with Blackie at Little Ochie....if, pray & agitate, that this is not a back-channel attempt for further environmental degradation!

Heritage Values in the Canoe Valley:
Citizens who know the area well believe that even though it contains private land ownership, successive governments have sidestepped the issue of declaring the Canoe Valley a protected area for many years. The area was home to the Tainos (incorrectly called Arawaks) and was their second-largest settlement on the island. The archaeological resources in the area include several known Taino sites, including caves with petroglyphs (rock carvings) and burial caves. Many artefacts, including the famous wooden carving called the 'Bird Man', were removed from the area in the 1700s and sent to the British Museum.

Many species - such as the three remaining Jamaican manatees, crocodiles, sea turtles and numerous birds - inhabit the area. The last remaining stand of endemic thatch palms is now heavily denuded due to overharvesting. This area has a mixture of unique, almost-undisturbed natural habitats such as wetlands, mineral springs, rivers, mangroves and sand dunes.

Under the Countrystyle Community Tourism Network's initiative called Villages as Businesses, a plethora of jobs can be created using the immense biodiversity found in the Canoe Valley. There can be organised tours for schools and visitors of Taino sites, establishment of trails for hikers, birdwatchers and nature lovers. Other potential attractions include the re-establishment of the fishing industry - commercial and recreational; kayaking, snorkelling in the wetlands, rivers and springs and many other nature-based job opportunities.

Communities are now benefiting from TEAM Jamaica Community Tourism Tours Development and training, that is facilitated through the National Best Community Foundation/Countrystyle Community Tourism, in collaboration with the Jamaica Social Investment Fund/Rural Economic Development Initiative programme. This will enable participants to be professional in being good hosts to local and foreign visitors, as they take advantage of the many economic spin-offs from community tourism...

As we have seen the need for LEADERSHIP in this progressive section of Jamaica, is a major issue.

The Community leaders alone cannot do the work of NUN-PERFORMING Elected Government Officials.

Please Mr. PJ Patterson, take up the offer and let's have a real Representative for this great town.

Two Seasons Guest House supports former Prime Minister Patterson's call for the upgrade of the road into Treasure Beach, but would wish the call to include the road leading through Treasure Beach, from Calabash Bay to Fort Charles (Starve Gut Bay)

On The Contrary Jamrock, Mr. PJ Patterson has been in and around Treasure Beach Quite frequently, he is very aware of the plight we have in this town.

I remember providing on site Technical support for the Travel Channel, while filming a video promoting Jamaica, Jakes Hotel and Treasure Beach was One of only two Locations selected in the western Hemisphere. The then Prime Minister of Jamaica PJ Patterson was the quest star of this video clip. He has been integral in promoting our area for quite some time.

PJ has been in Treasure Beach during, and after being elected Prime Minister of Jamaica.

It Would be nice if Mr. Patterson VOLUNTEER as our MP, as this community need such a figure to get the necessary infrastructure in place.

The current PM has just announced a $500-mil road repair starting now, so I am hoping some of that will be spent in TB. for the short term.
What Mr Patterson is talking about is really a long term plan to be linked to highway 2000. Can the sitting MP shed some light on the matter?
