Jamaica is celebrating Emancipation Day today! Lots of activities planned, lots of families and friends getting together and enjoying the day.

During the celebrations, let us refect on the meaning of the day, be thankful, and remember all those in the world who are still in need of emancipation.

Monday, Emancipation Day, was a day filled with celebration and family fun.

First, the Treasure Beach Women’s Group held their 4th Annual Yard Sale. With lots of items on sale for absolute bargain prices including a grab bag, and a jewelry booth. But the most popular booths were the books,

Of course, no TBWG function would be complete without tasting Miss Avril’s famous jerk chicken!

Congratulations are in order for the Treasure Beach Womens Group who received the Michael Manley Award for Community Self-Reliance on Monday!

Then it was off to Sunset Resort to check out the activities of their family fun day. The place was packed with an estimate of between 500 – 1000 people attending. It was a hot day making the pool one of the favorite attractions.

Boy Pea was making everyone’s feet move to the beat!

The jerk pork was smoking on the BBQ.

And Climbing,

And the adults were soaking it all in enjoying a cold Red Stripe and good reasoning.

I understand the big hit of the day was the bungee cord jumping. Unfortunately, I had to leave before it was set up. Where did I go . . .

To watch the cricket match, of course! No good holiday would be complete without seeing a good cricket match. This one was the Treasure Girls against the St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Barbary Hall. It was a fund raising match for the church. Lots of laughs and fun,

and a little bit of cricket thrown in.

Phew! I had so much fun on Monday, I can’t wait for Independence Day on Friday!

I think this final picture sums up the day perfectly. Happy Holidays!
