Tomorrow (Wednesday, July 31)at 6.15pm Radio Jamaica (RJR) will air my feature on the Snowboy tragedy.

Those wishing to access it via the Internet may do so at www.rjr94fm.com

This is one of the most under reported disasters in Jamaica's modern history. After all, approximately 40 fishermen died! I believe it is second only to the Kendal train crash of 1958 in respect of the number of fatalities.

Yet, as you will hear, if you listen to the feature, nobody outside of Treasure Beach with whom I spoke had ever heard of the tragedy.

I will say no more of the feature at this time. Give it a listen if you can tomorrow.

Remember now, what was 'tomorrow' is now today :-)

So tune in this evening.

It was good to bring the snowboy tragedy to the attention of the nation.I am sure memories still live on in the hearts of the relatives and the community 50 years later. Thanks Earl

Will certainly do Earl. My memory is not so sharp on it anymore but I remember exactly where I was when I and others with families of some of these men heard the news. Thanks in advance. I will certainly be listening

Thank you so much Earl! Painful memories, especially the roll call. I was made aware of the broadcast by someone living in Canada so I tuned in. I even told others who might not have been aware but wouldn't want to miss it. Unfortunately the person who told me was not able to hear it via the computer. Is it possible you could put it on youtube so all those people who missed it could hear it? I know lots of people would be grateful.

"From TB", thanks for the the good word. I am happy that you and others, locally, were able to hear it. Also very sorry that the live stream option was not available on Wednesday.

I'm trying to arrange a re-broadcast on Monday and, hopefully, they will be able to access it then. If I'm successful I'll advise through this medium.

TB-2, there wouldn't be much there to view. This was a radio feature, not television.

We have arranged for it to be re-broadcast at 6.30pm on Monday, August 5, on RJR. It is possible as well that a podcast might be made available at the same link - www.rjr94fm. That I will confirm if it materializes.

Hey, Cousin in Florida!
Glad to know you were able to access the feature via the special app. Clearly the technical issue that affected others did not trouble you because of the app you have.

Anyway, to all others who are interested, please take note of what I said earlier - re-broadcast at 6.30pm on Monday. Try the link again: www.rjr94fm.com

Hey Earl, I am currently having a Canadian breakfast and listening to www.rjr94fm.com
Cool - I shouldn't have any problem tuning in on Monday. Thank you.

TB-2, good to know! Fingers cross that it stays that way through to the appointed time on Monday.

We'd appreciate another way to listen to the broadcast. We've tried several browsers at different times and they all say "problem loading"--meaning we cannot get through to listen.

Your piece on Snow Boy was compelling. Thanks for your effort in keeping it alive.

The ocean was always an integral part of our family life, whether it was for food, pleasure or relaxation, but it was so much more than that, it brought my family a lot of sorrow and pain.

We will always love the ocean but we cannot forget the dangerous side of it, and the loved ones it took from us – it took our brother, sister, cousin and neighbor....how can we ever forget such sorrow.

We were finally able to connect in time to hear the rebroadcast of the Snowboy tragedy and I found it totally absorbing. I was particularly attentive to Miss Sheila's comments. I clearly felt the enormity of the effect this had on the Treasure Beach community.
Well done Earl Moxam.

Glad you caught it, Peter!

I agree regarding the impact of Miss Sheila's narrative. This is an event, painful though it is, that we should never forget.

I grew up with the stories of 'Snowboy' ringing in my ears and I'm grateful that I had parents who were never reluctant to share this and other stories of our community with us.

It is also a tremendous blessing having the platforms which I've had to share these stories with the world.
