I used to get turpentine, shellac and linseed oil once.
As turps is a hazardous substance, I could not pack any from Canada.
Any one have a few gallons stashed or know where I can purchase some?
Local beeswax is used to lubricate threads, polish raw wood, as a base for lotions etc. Liquified then thinned with turps, the paste will be used when we have a teach in on the restoration of pre 1820 Jamaican furniture. Shellac and the French polish came after.
When we get shellac, pumicestone dust etc, we'll have a learning on the use of shellac. Our hot, dry weather is right for the process.
I've noticed that Craftespeople and Farmers often get so entranced with the work that the currently touted crisis fades. Soil, metal, wood, stone and caring, strong hands; the economists forget that these give life to the balance sheets.
Turey, call Parchment Hardware in Southfield. 876/965-6211 or 876/965-6235. Talk to Karla, Jackie, or Dean. Or e-mail Karla at kparch@cwjamaica.com or karla.parchment@gmail.com. They'll have what you want and deliver down to TB for a very nominal fee. (They also have some "international" numbers: 860/331-8466 or 954/636-1071--which means you'd be calling Connecticut or Florida, respectively.)
Thanks Mrs Kennedy.
