Normally we would not approve a message where someone is calling anyone an idiot, but we will make an exception here.

Jamaica and Trinidad have recently had incidents of destroying habitat, turtle eggs and hatchlings by construction machinery. The uneducated island man seems to have little concept of environmental protection. This has always been a criticism of mine towards Jamaicans.

I saw on CNN last night where they said that this was done to save many more turtles than were destroyed. Something about the river....Sounds like poor backpeddling to me.

Greece has refused to abide by international treaty protecting the turtles and has allowed development in sensitive nesting habitat.
Humans continue to attack the global marine ecosystem with practices that are not sustainable, destroying resource after resource for short term profit.
We increase the population of the planet by one billion every ten years and this rate of global population growth is not sustainable. Within our lifetime, we will begin to see collapse that will affect changes in culture, economics and the environment. Countries like Jamaica will be severely affected with little or no political solutions available.
The bell is tolling.

I totally agree with you Maro22.
The basic problem facing the hunman race is over-population !!
Mother nature can only handle so many of us humans, and she will ALWAYS put things back in balance, and in this case it will mean the death of many human beings, either by disease, natural disasters, are man make causes such as war are famine !
Yes the bell is tolling, and we WILL PAY the COST, because we are a selfish species and will not come together to solve the problem !!
ONE LOVE !!
Mike

With overpopulation, comes a limit to business and capital opportunities. People are desperate to make a living and more, so many individuals will cut corners, break laws and defy logic, all in the name of money. It's not only Jamaica, but everywhere.
We are seeing macro-biological collapse in many areas of the world that have suffered with policies that destroy the ecosystem, in the long and short run.
The safety nets are breaking and government can no longer cover all of the basic needs, so this type of incident will increase.

The Treasure Beach Turtle Group is always in need of donations to help us learn about and protect our local Hawksbill sea turtles. Help us work towards preventing this kind of thing from ever happening in Treasure Beach.
