The first time I landed in Treasure Beach was pure luck. I chose to organize a service trip through my University and came across an organization in the community. Ever since my first trip, I simply cannot stay away. I have been three times in the past year. I just got back from my last visit last week and have already booked my next trip in order to stay sane! My one-two week trips are just not enough though so this time I am looking to stay for a month or possibly a few months if I can get involved in something that would allow me to stay. If anyone has any ideas please let me know! I am open to doing just about anything....I have a degree in social psychology, but I also love to bake, cook, and does anything that involves working with people! Thanks for any help you can offer me!

Maya

The Treasure Beach Women's Group Benevolent Society welcomes volunteers to our group and would be happy to discuss possibilities with you. Look at our profile by clicking on 'community groups' on the masthead and check out our website www.tbwgjamaica.com

The Sandy Bank Primary School is also always looking volunteers, especially for a remedial reading tutor. Just contact Ms. Zane, the principal, at zaneebanks@yahoo.com.

Contacting the school is the best idea, I think.
With your love for baking and cooking the students from the local school would benefit from a Home Economics class, focusing on cooking & baking, nutrition & food preservation.

At the end of the course you could have a bake sale and invite the locals to purchase the items, the profit would go to the school.

Good luck.

Thank you all for you help, I greatly appreciate any information that are able to share with me! I would love to talk to someone further about working with the TWBG as I know they do a lot of good within the community. Who would be the contact person for that? Also I noticed on the website that they organize a summer camp....does anyone know what the exact dates of the camp are? Thanks again for all of the support. It is refreshing to see people who really care about their community and are willing to take time out to help a stranger!

Miss Zane's new e-mail address is ebanks.zm11@gmail.com. Her old one was hacked, and I don't believe she's still using it.
