There is quite a bit of disparity of taxes charged BY The JAMAICAN Government on airline Tickets. This is also the norm by the government to tax us highly in all other areas such as. Gasolene, Telephone, Electricity, and the list goes on. The example below shows that t each passenger is paying the Jamaican Government an exorbant fee to visit Jamaica.

Well apparently many people in Jamaica don't pay either income tax or property taxes. Money to run the airport (and the government) has to come from somewhere. I don't think $21 is exorbitant! In fact, I'm happy to pay the fee!

Jamaica is name brand, you have to pay for that, furthermore to pay $43.10 more to escape the terrible winter is more than worth it. No Government can exist without taxes, You can not Compare poor little Jamaica with the rich and powerful USA.

Brandy I think you missed the point totally, i don't think you are paying $21,the summation is quite more than that. The other point is, there seems to be the quest, of whoever is paying taxes, will pay for those of us who is not paying any at all. Mr Vawhn, I am not sure if you are informed about the high rate of return one Telephone Company charges us to call Jamaica in the past a whopping 43%. The Fcc saw this as unfair not the Jamaican Government, and adjustment were made. That Company is now fighting to survive in the Caribbean. You continue to Tax, Tax, Tax, people will find other BRANDS or DESTINATIONS.

My knowledge of this is that the country of termination (in this case Jamaica) has nothing to do with what is charged by the country of origin, and that the charges are negeociated by the service providers. The FCC (whatever that is)has jurisdiction over what exist in the country in which it operates. I therefore have to conclude that any adjustment done would have to be applied to that country.

That is what third world countries and the present US administration believe, that rich people are there to be taxed for the benefit of the poor, a euphemism for the favoured friends and the die-hard voters. There is something wrong with inviting people to your country to spend their money and taxing them when they do. It is like the practice of keeping a birthday party and charging your guests. Both demonstrate a lack of class.

Darn, Spooky Dude, I find myself agreeing with you for perhaps the first time. I am sick of being taxed to make up for the hordes of Jamaicans who do not pay taxes on purpose.

Well there is always a first time for everything.I must say that I find it hard to believe though,LOL.
Lisa by spending your money you are contributing to the country. There is something not right about levying a tax on an invited guest!

Let’s have some clarity here, the United States, Canada, and the Caribbean is in the same calling Zone. In this calling zone you would dial the number 1, then the area code, followed by the local number to reach countries within the designated calling Zone.(please do not get confused with Time Zone)
Example to call Jamaica from Florida you would dial (1-876-123-4567) and Vice Versa if you need to call Florida From Jamaica you would Dial (1-305-123-4567) The prefix (1) denotes the calling Zone.

If you need to Call London England from Jamaica, which is out of our calling Zone, a Prefix of 011 is utilized.

So one would expect a cheaper rate to call within their calling Zone, not so lucky, the excess taxes and Tariffs set forth by the destination Country is the determining factor in the case of Jamaica. It is quite cheap to call Canada from the USA, and Vice Versa, on the other hand it is quite expensive to call Jamaica from Canada, or the USA.

Moving forward, the Technological advancement in Communication is demanding better services at fraction of the cost those Government, and telecoms giants enjoy.
