Just wondering the best area for a solo female traveler. Or is it best to come with a group?

If you are looking to party at night and have some what of a "wild" time with lots of other young people, then Negril is the place for you.
If you are looking to just relax and "chill out" with a few bars and few people, and have more of a authentic Jamaica vibe, then Treasure Beach is the place.

As a female on your own - Depends on how much you like your own company and how well you can cope with the constant attention and false declarations of love of practically every male you will meet from about age 14 to 90.

Being part of a group can be helpful as the 'love' will then be shared amongst you. If it is a mixed group then the males within your group can be useful for getting rid of unwanted admirers. Just tell them that so and so is your man.

Hi Solo Female Travler! I've been a solo traveler to Treasure Beach for 8 Years and over 10 on the island as a whole. I love the quiet life and I like a party too. I stay at Jakes so I always have someone to hang out with and if I choose to be alone I can do that too. The Beach Romeos are not anything like Negril where you can't move without them troublin you...in TB most Luva Boys take a nice no thank you and move on. Lot of things to do and lots of nice people in the community to meet. You can email me if you would like more info. Enjoy yourself and love TB community they will love you right back.

Yes Sweetlips, my young friends are mostly gentlemen, testosterone laden but gentle. They will make sure lone ladies are safe no matter if they are attached to them or not.

The elders also keep an eye.

i too am a a solo traveller to treasure beach and have been for many years

my budget and my preference is not for jakes, there are many other safe and comfortable guesthouses where i have stayed with no problems at all

luver boys are all over jamaica they can not be avoided, most will leave you alone when you make it clear that you are not interested

the people of the area are great and you will find that many of them are watching out for you

as a last comment, i would never let the fact that i do not have a travel companion stop me from going anywhere ...... if that was the case i would have never gone around europe, i love venice and have been there two times so far, i have also travelled across canada and the usa solo

Um, @LuvJaBad, I doubt your age will be much of a deterrent to amorous advances from local men.

My first trip to Treasure Beach was solo. I stayed at Irie Rest.

Lennie & Pauline took great care of me. The place is safe, clean, comfortable and inexpensive. The food was great and cheap.

There were usually people on the veranda in the
evening to socialize.

Lennie also arranged drivers for day trips / site seeing for me. It was a very stress free experience.

My first time in TB, my husband had to go to work, so I was by my self all day for 8 days,

at Jakes, Doggie was to look after me, and boy He did, I could not make a move, but to tell you

that if you are along, how you respond to them is respected,men will try, you just have to tell them

you are not interested, but with a firm NO. They do look after you
, knowing you are not from there. I have found with the years, because

we were living there after that, people in TB are very friendly, if you respect them you will

get respect back. I miss TB big time...have fun

I agree that the Romeos are much less aggressive in TB. And, people will look after you.

LuvJaBad...hahahaha middle aged is not a concern for anyone in JA..I'm the same (Older and Wiser Woman This does not exclude us from anything on the island because of our age, color, weight, etc... Man is man and woman is woman As for Jakes it is a bit more but if you go in the low season and ask for some help on the price they can usually accomodate. I have not always stayed at Jakes, I've rented several different villas in different areas in TB over the past years (I LUV GREAT BAY)...always feel safe no matter where I am. It's true as everyone says...someone is always watching over you even when you are unaware, you can feel the respect and love everywhere you walk...I feel safer in JA than I do in the US. There are so many nice little places in TB, (family owned sweet places) where ever you land you will have fun and a relaxed vist I'm sure.

In all seriousness, I'm 51 years old and have never heard of a case of sexual molestation in the area. So bring your single self on down an have a warm time hanging out with the nicest people you'll ever meet.
