It seems Jamaica is not the only plagued by violence. 2 Miami Dade police officers were killed by a murder suspect who himself was eventually killed by another officer.

Toronto,Canada with a population greater than Jamaica, had a police officer killed a week ago; the first since 2002. And it wasn't by the gun; it was by a stolen snow blower. Wonder how many police officers murdered in Jamaica since 2002. Approximately 14,000 police officers and others from across North America attended the funeral service. In Toronto, we do not carry guns (except for the few drug dealers) and we do not keep guns in our homes. As citizens, our police officers take care of us. Why can't Jamaica and US cities be like Toronto?

Yes 'need to know' my question is the same, what's the point? Criminal behaviour can be found everywhere.I live in the UK and have twice been the victim of street crime; my home has also been burgled once. Not long ago my daughter was attacked and robbed in broad day light by a drug addict as she was walking home and a few weeks before that an elderly woman in the same area had her jewellery wrenched from her person. Police Officers get murdered here too Anita! There is a tendency for Jamaicans to think that crime only happens in their little corner of the world.I recall a Jamaican friend telling me that after visiting some of the South American and South Asian countries, she had a more positive perspective on Jamaica.Jamaica is a working democracy and thankfully it has a legal system that is functional although I hasten to add it's not perfect and there is room for improvement-no society should be complacent. In some of the above countries there are no reliable or efficient systems for the reporting of crime against certain groups and this is taken for granted because it is the norm. Indeed there is even the practice of police officers clearing the streets of homeless children and beggars by shooting them on sight so their presence will not offend visiting tourists. In some societies including the 'developed' world sexual offences against children are commonplace and well organised. In the UK there is regular reporting of these dispicable acts and awareness that this is not confined to race, nationality or social class. In my work and my travels I come across both good and bad in the human condition.

I think the "point" is that where ever the citizens are allowed to own and carry guns, the higher the crime rate commited by crimminals with guns (which they obtain illegaly)!
