suppose there is the possibility for this sea plane to help you or one of your family members who might come down with serious injuries and need to reach a hospital normally out of reach.now, i just witnessed the first test landing of the plane and as far as the animals are concerned;the cows on the adjoining field and the ducks(that our local jamcns shoot for fun) and other birds swimming in the pond did not move from their present habitats, not even for a second when or before the plane landed there.not because one person has a problem because he has found use for his side of the pond (a meat storage plant) doesn't mean he should try and halt other useful-to-the-community ideas.

And how many hospitals can you land a sea plane at?

And it will be at the ready just like the ambulance
(which has been out of use for some time).

Get real.

You seem good hearted but naive, Lee. You think the seaplane will be sitting here or come in to move an injured person to a hospital? When it got to the hospital, where would it land? Who would pay for this service?

Do you care about the PEOPLE who have homes on Old Wharf and other areas right near Salt Pond?

I am scared. This is not the Hudson River!! Environment or no environment mi still 'fraid. What time is this plane going to land and take off? Is is going to be a daily activity? Do tell. I live too close and that makes me even more scared. Should I go to bed at nights wondering if my roof will be tipped or leave and go out in the daytime and wonder the same? Lord help my nerves.

I'm just saying maybe there can be a positive side to all this drama.maybe T\B people need to get real and come out of the hole we're living in.we're acting as if this is 1901.i see people from the same community fenced the beach(which is still public)planted flowers ,tried to keep it clean for us locals and travelers and what happened? they're planing to take the fence down so people can use this beach as a hotel again. oh and you know what else is happening in old wharf the beautification project for the beach was being destroyed by loose goats, who also by chance flip and tear though the garbage bins placed there- now there's garbage everywhere.so maybe we're focused on the wrong thing.and for info i do live in old wharf and i don't see how this disturbs anyone living here.

Nothing is going to happen except loud noise, disturbance of residents, and killing of birds and crocs. That is not nothing. That is nasty and cruel.

all who talking about negative impact the sea plane gonna have on the on the area need to put up are shut up.which one of you employ one person in treasure beach or in other words put food on their table? since the fishing industry is in a mess there is no way of makeing a honest liveing in the area anymore, fishing was the back bone of the community.thank god for the tourist who will buy goods and service from the locals their so they can send their kids to school .if some one gave u a lemon in these trying time dont just stare at it utalize make lemonade it will quench your thirst .this sea plane gonna bring visitor to the area who inturn gonna pay for a service directly or indirectly so that gonna generate some some badly needed cash in the area. if this enterprise is handly properly it will create jobs, and generate cash flow by bringing more visitors to the area. read the letters on this site and see how many people donate money.books to the school services and ideas to the community if they didnt come and visit treasure wouldnt the community it is today.if tourism is the vehicle that gonna replace fishing as the money maker full steam a head with the seaplane ,let treasure beach be the trail blazer first to offer the seaplne service.stop think negative think positive ,dont look back look forward.some kid might land a job by the pond makeing a honest living and dont have to make plans to pick up a gun to rob someone in treasure beach, old wharf or else where .from time to time people shoot bird and kill them they still come back ,locals kill crocodile they still return in their season how on earth a seaplane gonna run them from their natural habitat .

I do agree with you. There's too much negative thinking and not positive ones. this Plane thing is going to bring jobs to many people. Even the one who's going to lift the luggage. People need to stop THE BAD HEART THING!!!!!! LET'S MOVE FORWARD. Look at all the good things Jason has done there. Look at the Schools, Post office, garbage bins and clean Beaches. This is such a shame and bitterness. Researchers has shown that people who live happy and have a clean heart, live longer!!!!!

THUMBS UP TO JASON AND REBECCA FOR ALL THE GOOD THEY HAVE BEEN DOING IN T/BEACH

SEAPLANE PREVIEW: AN ALLEGORY:

With all the Approvals (Feasibility Studies), Balanced Judgments & Practicalities about the"Sea-It-All Plane" hovering up deh in di air, with a little tongue-in-cheek humour & exhaling, lets look back to the future for some Inspiration.

Oldtimers remember that out of pop "TV culture" of the late 1970's thru early 80's came Fantasy Island.
The gist of the show was that guests would arrive at the Island by seaplane to have their wish or fantasy fulfilled.

The host was the debonair Mr Roark (played by Ricardo Montalban resplendent in a white tailored suit...for the sake of allegory, Jason...Smiles!).
His "little guy" sidekick, and foil, Tattoo, would ask the "everyman" question..."why" or "should we"...or even "what's in it for me?"

It was Tattoo who uttered the famous refrain, which has been running through this thread, "da plane...da plane" as the seaplane was sighted in the wide blue yonder and he rang the "warning" bell from the belvedere tower.

To set the stage for the Fantasy, and prep themselves for the rollicking course ahead of them, Mr Roark would remind Tatoo:
Smiles everyone, Smiles!

The surprise twist of the show was a kind of "watch what you wish for..." sentiment because the Unknown, the Unexpected or some Self-Revelation are part of the ingredients baked in di fruit cake.

And what happened to Fantasy Island?
Like all good shows that will never end, the Series ran its course and was cancelled... to be replaced by a current, confused, never-ending TV series...Lost

Kory South of the Sunset Resort told me that the seaplane is owned by a Canadian who has property in Black River. That is why the plane was seen flying towards Black River.

I am reconsidering my 11 day trip to Jamaica and not coming to Treasure Beach at all. Listening to seaplanes take off and land does not sound like much fun.

When I spoke about being paid to lift luggage, this is what I meant.... The person who's going to lift the luggage at Great Pond will be paid to do so. Whenever I land at Mo-Bay I paid for my luggage to be taken to my (transport) AND I WILL TRAVEL TO GREAT POND THE NEXT TIME IT THE PLANE IS READY, AND I WILL PAY SOMEONE TO LIFT MY LUGGAGE. NO BIG DEAL, EVERYONE MUST LIVE... LIVE AND LET'S LIVE

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Come On Down on Wednesday, March 04, 2009 - 07:57 am: Edit Post

Maro22, the seaplane is owned by a Canadian who is PARKING it in Black River. Obtaining all the correct permissions to land it at Great Pond seems almost impossible. The pilot stated he would be willing to explore other areas in Jamaica for the seaplane business. I predict that is what will happen. In the unlikely event the seaplane owner does obtain permission to fly in and out of Great Pond, that will take a long time.

Also, the pilot left the meeting early. It appeared he was embarrassed because he did not realize there would be such fierce community and legal opposition. He was under the assumption the proposal would be embraced by the community, but it was not.

Do not worry. Come down to Treasure Beach for your holiday.

The amount of luggage you can carry is a seaplane is very small, maybe the size of carry-on luggage. If you cannot lift it yourself you might not be healthy enough for a vacation. If you do pay someone else to lift it, they might get a tip of one or two dollars US. Earning that amount for lifting the luggage of maybe two or three passengers does not sound like the way to earn a good living for a day. It is more likely the driver who will transport you to your hotel will lift your luggage at no extra charge; that is what the minibus drivers do on a regular basis.

Mr A and others that have suggested the same, if anyone critisises any of Father Jason's projects, are they demonstrating 'bad mind'?

Is anyone allowed to voice their contrary opinions, or are we then demonstrating 'bad mind' and should thus hold our tongue.

Please explain.

North Korea and Burma are two of the places where I am told I have to watch what I'm saying.

I hope this does not become so in Treasure Beach.

To me 'bad mind' is a mind that does not work properly due to laziness, genetic flaw or disease. The most unfortunate variety is the mind that is under the influence of others that are not it's rightful owner.

I am weighing in on the seaplane issue. This is Roger Sturgis, Old Wharf property owner, 10 year (and counting)visitor, and Treasure Beach devotee. I haven't read most of the other posts but I was in town until Sunday, saw the plane land and heard the preliminary "discussions" about the pro's and con's.

I hope everybody mellows out a tad. This is not a Jason thing; this is a Treasure Beach thing. The only relevant issue should be, "Is this good or bad for Treasure Beach?"

As with most issues there is a little of both. In this case mostly bad. The plane is noisy and disruptive for the town and the neighbors. No more than one flight a week would fly with me.
The seaplane is a toy not a business tool. If it was for business it would only bring people to Jake's, not to the community. If it was going to take people to the airports in Montego Bay or in Kingston it would either reduce business for our taxi drivers, who do not have enough as it is or it would cost so much (one way $250!?)that only high end clients could afford it. High end clients provide negligible benefit to the community.
If the idea was to give visitors an aerial tour of the coast line you would need to have a quieter plane and you would need to build a landing strip elsewhere. Might as well throw in para sailing, a fleet of jet skis if you are going to do that and rename Treasure Beach something like.... Negril!

For any of you that has ever flown a small plane, they are unreliable. They are well maintained and must be mechanically sound, but if you fly in on a calm morning are you going to be able to fly out in a 30knot wind? In a rain storm? When its nice in TB but inclement in Montego Bay?

There are good things as well. Kids love planes and would love to have rides in the plane (assuming the insurance is paid up). The plane would get people to Treasure Beach in good weather so that visitors would not have to endure the brutal drive from the Kingston Airport or the modest one from Montego Bay.

A local business person would benefit by adding another facet to the recruitment of new and repeat clients. Its an extremely innovative idea.

In the scenario of a medical emergency, such as a speeding vehicle slipping off a wet road and smashing into Good Vibes or South Jammin' an airplane could get someone to a lake near the Mandeville hospital, assuming it was good weather, 30 minutes faster than an ambulance.

Let me know if I have overlooked anything.

I am assuming that the sea plane will be landing in the sea in front of Jake's and then ferrying passengers to shore. Or will Jake's buy the "pond"? Once the pond is purchased and all the permitting completed will it ever really pay for itself?
If most of the profits will go to the community, how much are we talking about and what will be done with them?
Will there actually be any profits or is the plane really just a hobby?

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Criticism on Friday, March 06, 2009 - 08:40 am: Edit Post

Criticism here is often confused with having a personal vindictive agenda. It is possible to like someone or to admire someone but not to like or admire an IDEA or ACTION of that person. That criticism is warranted.

With governments, too many people sit by and do not object when someone from their side or their party acts in a way that is not good for the public.

With media, some newspapers or TV stations may feel compelled not to report on the harmful actions of those in power; this ends up having unfortunate consequences for the public. Many top reporters in America later felt they had not done their job of reporting fairly to the public on all that had happened with the Iraq war during the initial few years.

We should not allow that to happen in Treasure beach. There is no one person too big or too powerful to not be critized.
