Someone just sent me an email and this quote was included - a perfect quote for travelers:

If you reject the food, ignore the customs, fear the religion and avoid the people, you might better stay at home." -- James Michener

It is better to light candles
than to curse the darkness.
It is better to plant seeds
than to accuse the earth.
The world needs all of our power
and love and energy,
and each of us has something that we can give.
The trick is to find it and use it,
to find it and give it away.
So there will always be more.
We can be lights for each other,
and through each other’s illumination
we will see the way.
Each of us is a seed,
a silent promise,
and it is always spring.

Merle Shain

"Time is the truth-teller. They love you, they hate you. They buy you, they trash you. But over years and years, because I held on to myself,
I became a commodity that other companies would put their money on."

It’s Only a Matter of Time
By Dr. John H. Sklare
Thursday, March 15, 2007

I was sitting on my deck the other afternoon looking at the leafless trees behind my house and found myself wishing it were spring. As I looked at all of those oak trees standing bare of leaves, I was reminded of the wonder that comes with the change of season. These trees that look so barren and bland today will explode with life and color in the spring. To me, this is a constant reminder from Mother Nature of how cyclical things can be. One day it’s cold and grey out and then one day it’s warm and sunny again. Nature has a way of vacillating between good and bad, but one inevitably always follows the other. It’s only a matter of time!

People are like that, too. I wish I had a dollar for every person who I’ve ever interacted with that felt extremely down, maybe even suicidal at one moment, only then to find hope and purpose a day or two later. More often than not, things get better with time. If you find yourself feeling down or desperate today because of some terrible situation, please take a moment to think about those trees behind my house and let them remind you that time changes things. Regardless of what is concerning you today, if you take action and give that action time to work, you, too, can turn your winter into spring. It’s only a matter of time!

Wishing You Great Health,
Dr. John H. Sklare

Every one must have felt that a cheerful friend is like a sunny day, which sheds its brightness on all around; and most of us can, if we choose, make of this world either a palace or a prison.

"The people who have achieved more than you, in any area, are only a half-step ahead of you in time. Bless them and praise their gifts, and bless and praise your own. The world would be less rich without their contributions, and it would be less rich without yours. There's more than room for everyone; in fact, there's a need for everyone."

Marianne Williamson
American Activist, Author and Lecturer

Whatever else you do or forbear,
impose upon yourself the task of happiness;
and now and then abandon yourself
to the joy of laughter.

And however much you condemn the evil in the world,
remember that the world is not all evil;
that somewhere children are at play,
as you yourself in the old days;
that women still find joy in the stalwart hearts of men;

And that men,
treading with restless feet their many paths,
may yet find refuge from the storms of the world
in the cheerful house of love.”

Max Ehrmann, 1872-1945
American Lawyer, Philosopher, Poet

"You have to stand against the whole world although you may have to stand alone. You have to stare the world in the face although the world may look at you with blood-shot eyes. Do not fear. Trust that little thing that resides in your heart."

Find a quiet place and listen. It should be very quiet. The only sound you should hear is your heart beating. Listen. Peer deep down inside your heart. Do you see someone that holds a special place in your heart? Maybe they have always been there when you needed them; maybe they offered words of encouragement; taught you a lesson; comforted you when you were sick; praised you on your accomplishments. You have the POWER to spread happiness today. A quick note or a kind word is all it takes to bring a smile and lasting memory to someone very special.”

Gary Harrington
