GOALS

Are you playing hide and seek with your goals? Do you think you know what they are, or maybe you even know for sure what they are, but they keep hiding from you during your day-to-day life.

Write them down on paper. Yes it's that simple step that so many people forget to do.

Write it on a white board.

Paint it on the wall.

Carve it into the side of a mountain (Nobody ever forgets the presidents carved into Mount Rushmore!)

Maybe the mountain-carving suggestion is a bit extreme, but write it where you cannot forget it, where you cannot miss it, where you have to face it every day and answer to yourself the simple question: "What am I doing today to advance this goal?"

"The easiest thing in the world is to be you. The most difficult thing to be is what other people want you to be. Don't let them put you in that position."

To Be Hopeful...
Howard Zinn

To be hopeful in bad times is not just foolishly romantic. It is based on the fact that human history is a history not only of cruelty but also of compassion, sacrifice, courage, kindness.

What we choose to emphasize in this complex history will determine our lives. If we see only the worst, it destroys our capacity to do something. If we remember those times and places – and there are so many – where people have behaved magnificently, this gives us the energy to act, and at least the possibility of sending this spinning top of a world in a different direction.

And if we do act, in however small a way, we don’t have to wait for some grand utopian future. The future is an infinite succession of presents, and to live now as we think human beings should live, in defiance of all that is bad around us, is itself a marvelous victory.

One can never change the past, only the hold it has on you.
