Congratulation Uncle Trev on further spreading the family genes to create new life :-)

Treasure Dillion was born this year in England. She is the daughter of Trevor Dillion of Birmingham, UK, and also the new granddaughter of Muriel James-Dillion of Sandy Bank and Ervin Dillion of Great Bay. Treasure bears the namesake of the land of our ancestors that we all love so much- Treasure Beach!

P.S.: Does anyone know why the name DeLeon has changed to Dillion- or are they even related?

Hello M.R.

Dillion is most likely DeLeon spelled like how it came to be pronounced.

The Deleon (of the Lion) family of TB are probably decendants of Sephardic (Spanish) Jews who left their properties and goods behind to seek sanctuary from the trials of heresy etc known as The Spanish Inquisition.

The decendants of Columbus, who had title to Jamaica from the Spanish Crown, did not allow the setting up of this procedure. Jamaica thus offered this haven.

The bloodline of these families continue today in many (most?) Jamaicans.

All the best, turey.

I was just wondering if M.R. is related to the DeLeon's. I am also a Deleon and know for sure that we are related to some of the Moxam's. (Ms.Doris Bowl's family )Ms.Doris' mother Aunty Ms. D (we could never say Ms. D. as it was considered disrespectful) Was a Deleon before she married Uncle Joe Bowl (Graham).

Turey...That was a very informative research. Are you one of us? I always thought the name was from Spanish descent (Ponce DeLeon). You are so correct in your explanation of Dillion vs DeLeon. We are all one family with a lot of love and respect for each other.

Alonso & Miss D

Take a look at the picture of Ms. D and Alonso. After a little PhotoShop I managed to remaster it just a little.

Yes I am related to the DeLeon's (or Dillion's). Trevor Dillion is my uncle, and Ervin Dillion is my Step-granddad. I have actually been doing a lot of research on the 5 Families of TB (Moxam, James, Dillion, Ebanks, and Hill) and I am tryinig to compile a book or historical anthology of the families. The way I see it, TB is rapidly expanding and our histories and tombstones of our families may be lost if this is not done. I have also learned of Ponce DeLeon- he is the Spanish explorer that found Puerto Rico.

Now, I am the son of Peter Moxam, who is the son of Doris Maud Parchment-Moxam and Oliver Richard Moxam. My name is Marlon Richard Moxam. I am fresh our of college and dedicating some of my free time to finer things like my family before I get caught up in corporate America. I recently recieved a picture of Mrs. D but I am unsure if it is the same Mrs. D you speak of. My Mrs. D is my grandmother Doris' mother for whom she holds her namesake.

I have been able to trace my moxam roots back to romanesque briton and scandinavia and have been in touch with some who have also imigrated to the "new world" as well as those who have remained. I don't plan on limiting this book to just Jamaica, though it will circumvent it and the historical events that made it (and us) "out of many one people"

Nevertheless, it is a lot of extensive research and I would love to get help. I have not officially asked but I am planning on starting a new thread on TB.net opening it up to everyone. Our families are very extensive and there is a lot of overlapping and inter-family marrying but if you have something to offer like details and old picture please shoot me an email.

-Mox

P.S.: What are your names' Turey and DilliondeLeon send me a email if you are not comfortable exposing your identities on the message boards. Thank you!

Ma Vie where are you to explain the difference between Dillion vs DeLeon? You were the best historian, story teller.

Thanks M.R. and congratulations on your recent achievement. That is surely Aunty Miss D.and cousin Alonzo.(May their souls R.I.P).She was the sister of my great-grandfather Albert DeLeon (Uncle Mus-getti).Whatever little I know of our origins ,I learnt from my Dad who could probably help you out.He has been working on a family tree for a while. Cousin Ervin's Dad (Uncle Norman Dillion) and Aunty Ms.D. (Doris DeLeon/Dillion)were brother and sister so your grandmother Doris and Ervin are two first cousins(I think)

Let me know how I can contact you.

Yes, his last name was Berlin. I am the one of his granddaughters. When I saw the picture I thought it looked like him. We have so few pictures of the older members of our family and community who have passed away.It is very exciting to see a picture of him at such a young age. M.R. Moxam do you have anymore pictures you can share?

If the truth were to be know from doing a bit of research, you will discover that DeLeon's / Dillions did not exist in St. Elizabeth until around 1860 onwards. The name was started in the parish by one Albert DeLeon Ebanks 1828 a free born black child of St. Elizabeth. I believe his wife was Frances Ann Ebanks 1819 also from St. Elizabeth. At the moment I'm looking to see if Alber's mother was a Deleon by birth, or his biological father was a DeLeon, but I'm unable to find anything without visiting the records office in Spanish Town.

Now the name DeLeon is of Sepharic Jewish descent who moved to the United Kingdom in and round 1660s because of the Jewish persecution by the catholic church. Aaron DeLeon of Westmoreland was a wealth land owner with many slaves. He was also a legislator.

From the records, I've also found that Aaron DeLeon had a plantation in St. Elizabeth. We know from data that Albert is from a union between a master and a slave or a free born slave woman, as he were born a free slave along with his spouse Frances Ann Ebanks. One would like to assume that Albert's Father was a DeLeon and therefore took on his mother's name because his father being married.

The family rumour is this that Albert as we have already established was not born a Deleon but adopted the name DeLeon when he was told that he resembled a DeLeon.

Albert had five sons with Frances and only one of those five sons did he give the surname Deleon to and that was Herburt DeLeon. All his other sons had the surname Ebanks given. Over the course of time something happened to cause two of his sons to change their names from Ebanks to DeLeon and that is how we get the name DeLeon in Great Bay
