Sincerest and deepest congratulations to the Treasure Beach Response Unit in reaching their one year anniversary!! This ambulance and first aid response unit has proved itself invaluble to Treasure Beach and the surrounding communities.

ambulance

In the last year TBRU has responded to 55 calls including heart attacks, strokes, accidents, injuries, etc. The response unit offers 24 hour service with four persons on call each day. There is a total of 30 volunteers trained in First Aid and CPR with seven team leaders/ambulance drivers.

There is an intensive retraining program once a year. In addition, monthly meetings are held with the volunteers discussing new information and reviewing techniques, scenarios, etc. A doctor from the Black River Hospital is in attendance at these meetings to provide medical expertise and guidance.

What an accomplishment! All who are involved in this program including ISEC, BREDS, Food for the Poor, and all the volunteers should be so proud of such an incredible accomplishment.

I, thankfully, have not needed to call on TBRU for any medical emergencies in the last year, that is until the last two weeks when I have had to call on them twice.

Words cannot describe how grateful I was to be able to call on trained professionals to help in a crisis situation. Each time they arrived prompty (even when one situation was in the middle of the night) and treated the person taken ill with professionalism and calmness making everyone feel at ease.

I am happy to say that both persons who needed this service are doing well now thanks to TBRU and their fast response.

Personal thanks to all the volunteers of TBRU who have taken up so much of their own time being trained and making a strong commitment to this program. Special thanks to Darin, George, O'Neil, and Leary who were right there when I needed them.
