I am not sure why no one wants to address this terrible incident that took place in a beautiful neighbourhood like Treasure Beach.I would like to send condolence to both families involved.I dont know the details and I dont want to know because that is not important, what I do know is that a home has been destroyed and the families are suffering emotionally.I dont know Mrs Ward but I have some memory of Jeff. Miss Ethna and Mass Fred great parents and wonderful people in the community. Their home was always one of our favorite to stop and ask for a drink of water when the bus break down and we had to walk to Newell school, and of course Miss Ethna always have something for us to eat.I am not sure if Mass Fred use to sell fishpot wire but I do know that my father use to get wire from him until he could pay him maybe that was just a way of helping out.I am inviting the people of TB to pray for the families. They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength.

First, our deepest sympathies go out to Miss Monica's family and friends.

We are trying our best to only allow facts to be posted. We will not approve any scenarios of who, what or why until someone is arrested for the murder. It is our understanding from a family member the autopsy did show Miss Monica was murdered which is why the above posts have been approved. There should be an outrage in the community--especially to see an older person, another female killed in this cold, heartless way. My fellow community people, you or your loved one could be the next slaughter.

I totally agree with TBNet on this one. This is of the most private nature, not to mention the tragic and legal aspects. As such, the topic does not belong on this forum. I know many of us have a natural interest in the salacious, but not this one. It is not fair to the family. Hi Goldie: I'm sure many of our contributors to this site feel a range of emotions--shock, surprise, disappointment, anger, fear,empathy,hostility, sympathy... and the list goes on. Perhaps this is the only forum that many have to express these emotions in some sort of civil and humane way, and perhaps to find some sort of healing and peace. I am posting as a woman who fled domestic abuse in Jamaica who DID go the police and found no protection, even with court orders in place.

I found leaving all material possessions and my house behind better than fighting for my rights and ending up murdered.

Of course, I am not saying this is what happened in this case, these details of this case are not out except there was a murder.

Hey all concerned: Perhaps that is why this thread needs to keep going, so that those of us who are suffering for one reason or another (and I am aware we can't give details here), can find some answers, some peace, some healing.

Dear Grieving one: Thank you. I myself have been close to one side of Monica's family for years. I am grateful for the opportunity to write here. I mean no harm--just hurting and hungering for justice, for some type of closure.

Funeral services for Monica Ward will be at the Ballards Valley Moravian Church (next to the Ballards Valley Elementary School) on the Main road to Junction, on October 22 2:P.M. Interment in church plot.

This is good bickering, i am sure this will help the grieving process for the family, to know that people cared about their love one that was killed.Keep the forum going people, we need justice.

conscientious, i am sure if it was your love one that was killed, you would'nt be calling this forum bickering, or asking people to give your family a break so they could grief, you would be happy for the publicity and hoped that this would bring some pressure, that an arrest would be made soon.

Monica was the most gentle, caring & spiritual individual I’ve known. And I know Jeff loved her deeply. He would never hurt Monica - that’s not his personality. My husband & I visited them in Maryland and TB & they were the best hosts anyone could ask for. They worked so long & hard to afford a retirement home in Jamaica. My heart hurts so much for Jeff, and Monica's family & friends. Monica was a good person, didn't deserve this & will be sorely missed. I pray that God has taken her into his arms. I pray for all who loved Monica to find peace and strength to pull through this. Please know that in time the truth will come out and God will punish that who committed this horrible sin. Man's law may not work for Monica. The killer(s) will reap what they’ve sewn! Karma comes back in oh so many ways & is a fact of life! Relax, let life & God take it from here.

There are several people in Treasure Beach who did not even know Monica, but they mourn her death, and like you, they wish the killer (who probably is breathing and walking and speaking right next to us) caught It just remains a mystery why a few others are cold and stony...void and lacking human feeling with regards to Monica's death. WE are puzzled about a few things, but one thing is dead sure: the world is unkind. Time and unforeseen circumstances befall us all.

I have followed the posts on this thread and have become quite puzzled. There seems to be an under current of something that needs to be said that is only being hinted at. What gives?

I worked for the police in Canada for 20 years and that is the benchmark by which I judge police work. The JCF is a long way off.

I walked into Pedro Plains Police Station bleeding from a lick and was told, "me no see any blood".


I have been up there when a call comes in about someone being chased by machete and they ended up chiding the person on the phone and hanging up laughing. "If him have time to call we, why he don't just run away".

I do not know if I have the answers, but you cannot let fear rule your life.
Whenever something like this happens in a community,no one feels safe.Whether you know the person or not, you feel violated. You feel annoyed that your peaceful place of abode is on the news for the wrong reason. Most important of all, a life was taken. A loved one is no longer with us.It rocks us to the core.
It makes us suspicious,people speculate,rumors will fly,people look for answers anywhere they can find them.
The police have no reason to cover up,it is a plus to them if they solve it. If they get help from the community,have a crime scene that is not tampered with,do the necessary fingerprinting,and forensic work, etc,etc,etc,then they should be able to solve the murder.Give the police a little more time to do their job.Remember the learned lawyers are just waiting for them to make a mistake. You must have solid evidence before you can make an arrest.
In the meantime,remain vigilant,be careful and be your neigbour's keeper.

Monica Cain was my Auntie, I live in the US and the last time I saw her was in August 2010, that November I had twins, a boy and girl. I told family and friends that my baby girl reminded me of my aunt monica, it was probably her little button nose that cause the resemblance. Please imagine my shock to the core when I got the new she was murdered. I goggled her to see what's out there and found this forum. I'm happy there was some talk but still wonder what happen to searching for the killers. Is there not one forensic kit on the Island. Black River Police give us closure.
