Condolences to the Thompson family on the passing of Teacher Thompson. For more reasons than one, I won't soon forget him!
He was at once a great teacher of English and Civics and a strict taskmaster ready to flog you at the slightest infraction. He could eviscerate you in Math class if you couldn't work out the problem in front of the class.
And he took the biblical mandate to parents to "spare not the rod and spoil the child," to the school as well. Man he could whip you (LOL)! And it was always with a belt or that dreadful cane! And heaven forbid you were a few minutes past the morning bell. He'd meet you with the cane. And don't ever let him catch you eating in class!I won't name names, but there were a couple of boys in my grade nine class that got it for that and I still feel for them all these some four decades later!
But you know what, we are none the worse for the wear. I believe that along with solid parents and the strict teachers of yester year, the children of my generation have, for the most part, turned out okay. So rest in peace, Teacher Thompson. You've earned it.

My best regards and condolences to Mr Thompsons family. I was just thinking of him a couple days ago and now to read of his passing. Best wishes.
I to took a few good flogs from that very thick black piece of leather but it was deserving on my part, I lay no blame. Rest in peace Teacher Thompson and thanks for your guidance, it has stuck with me for all these years and more to come I'm sure.

When teacher Thompson came to Sandy Bank school, ileave a number of years before he came.Over the years i grown to respect him.He was a nononsense man,a man of high integrity,a man who never spear the rod and spoil the child.I too was floged by my headmaster Sepron Mcleanand my other class teachers.During those days i thought of revenge when igrewup, but thank God for those teachers and those days we got floged and we better stay floged. Those that have passed on,may their souls rest in peace. To those that are still with us respect to the max.To the family of Teachrr Thompson take comfort in the life he lived.God will give you comfort you need in these sad times.

To Mrs Thompson and family please accept my deepest sympathy for the lost of your beloved ZC, and to the many of us world wide, our former teacher and Principal. A man of integrity who had always "walked tall," has fought a good fight and now has finished his course. Be comforted and may God's peace be with you in a time as such as this.

Thank God I was not attending school at Sandy Bank at this time. From some of the messages it surly sound as if children were being abused and the parents had no control of the matter.
Well Teacher Thompson is now resting in peace and he can no longer hurt anyone anymore even though I feel at the time of his punishment he thought he was doing good.
I do believe in spearing the rod because flogging a child with a cane/leather belt/tree branch etc,etc to me is abuse.

[edited by TB.Net} I will not comment further except to say I am proud of the present administration at Sandy Bank School. They are better qualified and are turning out great leaders in the field of medicine, education, etc. And for those who are not financially able to educate their children at higher levels, let us find other ways to help them.

Teacher Thompson was a forthright teacher and principal. In 1976 I had the pleasure of doing my job experience at Sandy Bank Primary school. I was very impressed by the attractive learning environment that I observed there. The noise level was the lowest I had ever observed in a primary school, punctuality of students was the best I had ever seen, the students from grades one through six were so polite, the school grounds were clean and well kept and the overall tone reflected a well organized institution. Of course the teachers played an integral role in this fete but I give teacher Thompson credit for motivating the students and teachers to realize such high standards.

Beyond the walls of the classroom teacher Thompson was a respected Justice of the Peace, a devoted christian and Lay Preacher in the Anglican Church. He was also a devoted father and husband. I extend sympathy to Mrs. Thompson and the rest of his family. We will see him again in the sweet bye and bye.

On behalf of the Thompson family, I would like to thank the Treasure Beach Community for their out pouring of prayers and support for us during this time. Our Dad did what he knew best to do. It might not have been the best method, but it worked for so many of us. I say "us" because as his children we were never spared from his method of discipline. Many of us have gone on to becoming productive citizens at home and abroad. Our Dad was 84years old at the time of his death. We will miss him but we are oh so proud of his achievements. Thanks "ZC" "teacher" for all that you did.We know you are in a better place. Once again Thanks to everyone for the hugs and the kind words. We all have fond memories of Sandy Bank. God Bless you all.

Teacher Thompson has past students who are medical doctors, if my memory serve me right, one left Sandy Bank Primary 1972, and the other left 1975. There could be more, but i only remember these two just now.
