We understand that Miss Verlin will be memorialized this Sunday May 23rd at Billy's Bay Gospel Chapel.

When we are touched, in our hearts, by the Saints who walk among us, it righteous and true in a mission towards love and goodness that we take a long Dwell to reflect on this humble, certain-in-her-faith, tall-in-moral stature, good-good woman.
Of her many gifts of comforting and concern for others, surely she was richly comforted.

It is no accident how her calm purposefulness is reflected in her many offsprings gracefully multiplying into the future.

In a recent interview, "local" artist, Fiona Godfrey, who has certainly seen and may have even been ensnared in the vast human experiences of our scenes and senses, remarked about a certain quality of many of our neighbours:

"And the people! I have learnt so much about the Art of Living from the Jamaican people; their humor and resilience, their gentleness and strength, their faith and humility, their creativity and expression and style. I came to Jamaica to teach in a Place of Safety for Boys At Risk (street kids, abandoned and abused young boys), and I give thanks that this was my entry to Jamaica as I learnt from them the gift it is to be alive, even without all the things we take for granted, like loving parents, a home, an education, and opportunities. Their vitality and openness will always remain with me."

We have recently learned that the name Verlin may be the combination of two Irish words: Ver, meaning green and lin or lynne meaning meadow.

So Miss Verlin, in the Song of Psalm 23, may you eternally lie down with Mass Endley and your dear daughter, Laverne and fellow saints in your Green Meadow.

We imagine that Ms Verlin leaves us with the wholesomeness of the Prayer of St Francis which she seemed to convey in her living. It was also a favourite prayer of Mother Teresa:

Lord, make me a channel of thy peace;
that where there is hatred, I may bring love;
that where there is wrong, I may bring the spirit of forgiveness;
that where there is discord, I may bring harmony;
that where there is error, I may bring truth;
that where there is doubt, I may bring faith;
that where there is despair, I may bring hope;
that where there are shadows, I may bring light;
that where there is sadness, I may bring joy.
Lord, grant that I may seek rather to comfort than to be comforted;
to understand, than to be understood;
to love, than to be loved.
For it is by self-forgetting that one finds.
It is by forgiving that one is forgiven.
It is by dying that one awakens to eternal life.
Amen

DANTE'S PRAYER

www.youtube.com/watch?v=60g7gvBLIoQ&feature=related

I did not believe because I could not see
Though you came to me in the night
When the dawn seemed forever lost
You showed me your love in the light of the stars
Cast your eyes on the ocean
Cast your soul to the sea
When the dark night seems endless
Please remember me

When the dark wood fell before me
And all the paths were overgrown
When the priests of pride say there is no other way
I tilled the sorrows of stone...

Trevor and I have known Miss Verlyn for 20 years or more. She was our first friend in Billy's Bay and was like a sister to us. We will miss her very much. Love to all her family. Gwen and Trevor
