Dem good ole daze...I remember all too well, but you know what? I was just a little girl then, however, there use to be a fair in the day time first, then the dance in the afternoon. We the younger ones use to head on home as soon as the dance began. Later on in the night you could hear all those who got drunk walking by cussing and staggering home. Then you'll hear stories the next day of those who would "bruk bottle and fight" at the dance. All in good fun. Smile

A reunion sounds pretty fantastic, but will it just fall by the wayside like many things that have been planned before? I think it would really take off if Jakes and Rebecca gets involved and i think many people will back me on this one because, it seems as though Jakes and Rebecca have a big influence on things in Treasure Beach.

For those who are thinking of having Rebecca and 'Jakes' (Jason?) take on the responsibility for organising a Treasure Beach reunion, just think about this: Both of them are busy people who have their own lives. While their presence and contributions should be appreciated, they were not born in Treasure Beach and do not themselves share some of the experiences of which you speak. Why should anyone even think of asking them to take on the responsibility of organising a reunion for the people of the community who want to get together?
You either make the effort and do it yourselves or shelve it, like so many other ideas that have been floated on this website!
I have no doubt that if it is properly organised and, in those circmstances they are asked to make a contribution, they would be more than happy to assist. But, please, don't expect them to take on the job of organising an even such as this.
The very thought of asking that of them is embarrassing!

Hey Guys, I see you all are talking about a reunion, I did not attend Sandy Bank Primary, but I think it would be a wonderful idea for the past student to recongnize Teacher Thompson. Many of you may not know, but he is not well at all, this would be a good time to recognize him and what he has done for you all (even though you may want to forget some of the things, I'm sure it did you all well :-)). Just an idea for you all to think about.

I always admire Teacher Thompson for his contribution to education at Sandy Bank School and also for his present at function and funeral , he is an adopted citizen of Treasure Beach ,i hope he feel better. (back to the topic )
Reunion with a cricket match and dance with some good old music ,christmas 2008 would be good ,but can The Parent Teacher Association do this all of us would have to contribute and i think will ,so lets get this party started .(Toots and the Maytals BAM-BAM ,5446 )

I think honoring Teacher Thompson would be a wonderful idea, and lest not forget Mrs. Thompson as well. These two people were wonderful teachers, even though we may not have liked the caning and leather belting back then. But believe it or not they helped to lay one of the most important fondations of our lives, and that is the starting point of our education. When you look at it, there are alot of successes that came out of Treasure Beach that started right from that Basic School. So in the mean time maybe a card or a visit probably would cheer them on some. One would be surprised to know how effective this would be for them.

What a fantastic idea! How do you aim to make contact with past students of Sandy Bank. It might be an idea to post an AD in the Jamaica Gleaner Overseas - USA/Canada/England? How can we contribute to this event? Who are the co-ordinators? I certainly would be one interested Sandy Bank Old Girl

There are many local Jamaican Radio Programs in NY that can be contacted. Ken Williams, the pioneer as well as Gill Bailey are names that many can relate to.

I suspect that if this is ever going to happen, those seeking to lead the initiative will have to emerge from behind the pseudonyms they are using! Come forward and give your names and proper contact details, then seek to get an organising committee going. Under those circumstances you are more likely to secure the cooperation of the school's principal and staff, the board and the PTA.
Failing that, this is likely to be just another 'hot air' exercise.

This idea seem to have gone cold. I think I have an idea as to how this reunion may be achieved. We decide on time, place,Sandy Bank School, heroes day and the Saturday before. The Sunday reserved for church. Advertise the date and whosoever will may come. Music and drinks and perhaps soups(fish & mannish water)will be provided. Drinks will be on consignment and whosoever want to contribute do so when they attend. Open mike so we can all greet each other and learn who and who made it.(I am sure we may all not be able to identify many of our peers) Family members and friends can get together one on one basis. Maybe we could have home-coming week.
I would undertake to organize it along the lines mentioned above, with the help of all community groups, who can use the opportunity to collect pledges/contributions to the various projects in the community.Everyone will be responsible for his /her own meals. This way the whole community will benefit and there is no need for any planning in this area.
I am not able to do this immediately, but I well advise further in due course.
Your feed-back please
