Who were some of the really good singers in Treasure Beach? I understand that Gospel and Country were the most popular forms in the old days. Tell us who were the best exponents!
Steven Buchanan is one of the best singers to come out of Billys Bay.
He's also now a recording artist and resides in Florida. His cd's are great!!!!!!!!!!!!!
where can you get steve cd,s to buy
thank you...
He always sends them to me. Check out his website,stephenreeves.net. I hope this will help you.
Nostalgic, Were you talking of the local Treasure beach folks, including the Old timers?
I checked out Stephen website, I would encourage all to do so, Steve you make me proud to be your cousin. I have not seen you in about twenty years- you have grown to be a fine young man. I listened to your your demos on your web site- very nice- my favourite I Rather Have Jesus. Keep up the good work and hope you may win more souls for Christ- you make your mom Irene proud, may god continue to lead you- God Bless, you we need more like you.
Including the Old Timers, CAWA.
There was a group of young people at Treasure Beach Pentecostal Church. I think they were called 'Faith in Action'. They were very good.
The James brothers at Calvary Assembly of God were also good.
In Great Bay, Brenda Clarke, from the Brethren Church was one of the best.
Among the older ones, I loved the tracking of Maas Bas (Basil Bully) at set-ups! He was de bess!
Mass Basil Bully may his soul rest in peace he worked tirelessley to bury so many - so much love back then.
From Mass Basil died "Setup" is over. Those were really the good old days.
Maas Joe Bowl was a good 'setup' person too. Hey, Prof. let's BIG him up because he was one of the best.
For me Basil Bully was truly the 'King of Sankey'. I think I speak for most people when I say that 'set up' has never been the same since he went away. A man who was truly talented in his own right, did his job with a lot of pride and was a very humble human being. His favourite phrase: "The Word is Love", will forever ring in my heart. I have such fond memories of him; He was a remarkable human being who touched the lives of many who lost loved ones. He conducted proceedings with so much dignity and respect. Sleep on Bredda Bas, your work on earth is over, but heaven has gained a masterpiece.
Hey Remembering, Thanks for mentioning The Faith in Action group from the Treasure Beach Pentecostal Church. I was a part of that group and I think many were blessed with our Ministry. Thanks again. To the list let me add my Mom, Etna Ward (one of the Old Timers) and my cousins Dean and Fabian Ford. Brenda Clarke, I remember very well was one of the best as you mentioned.
i think other good singer/musicians are martin clarke and vandal ebanks. vandal he played the guitar, while martin clarke was excellent at playing the banjo,
Martin plays anything, includig guitar, Hawaiian guitar, banjo, mandolin, harp. Most talented musician Treasure Beach has ever seen!
Hey people how can we forget HICKS and his RHUMBA BOX!!!!!!. He was also great, God bless his soul.
MASS CECIL CLARK AND MARTIN ARE MY FAVORITE.
WE NEED SOME NEW ONES TO CARRY ON .
Talking about Bro Martin, I have yet to hear anyone who can out play him on his Hawaiian guitar. He is the greatest!!!! I enjoy hearing him play and wished he had more exposure with his talent. Bro Martin I applaude you.
How can the people of Great Bay not mention Fabian Ford and his brother Dean Ford? They are great singers too!
Oh dont forget Joel Elliott,on the banjo. I think by far he is the greatest. But stephen Buchanan is also a great singer, and how can I forget as great singers, Suzette and Fiona Elliott, and their parents, and up and coming Coreen Crowe(Avril's daughter)
It's always great to reflect on the good old days...history helps to guide our future. Treasure beach has produced some truly outstanding individuals. Thanks guys for considering me and my brother Dean among the great singers to have come out of Treasure beach. However, for those who were around from the latter part of the 70's to the early 80'you should recall that Dean and I were not only singers but entertainers. Along with people such as Jimmie Clark, Brenda, Sonia and Dawn Clark,Bausie, Helen Parchment, Paula Deleon, Garner Parchment and Richard "skinny" Palmer we used to go around to different areas of the community with what was dubbed by one of our MC's ( Artie Parchment) as the "Big Show". Those days were really filled with lots of love and good fun. But listen guys Fabian is not through with singing...he intends to do some CDs.
My father Cecil Clarke was the greatest on the harmonica. He even played it with his nose! We (his children) all enjoyed sitting around him on the verandah while he played his favourite songs. Sometimes Martin would join him and that would be a real treat.
He also did his stint at the Treasure Beach Hotel along with Martin, Mass Radford and a third person who I don't remember now. Maybe someone could remind me.
Hey Fabian, Daddy(Asvon) says if you want him in the background during the making of your CDs?
By the way, if you were wondering about the "New Yorker" who mentioned you on the page...it was me...Monique...Asvon's daughter.
Fabian, I would love to hear you guys sing again.
Please email me.
My dear "old acquatance" I need to know who u r and where u r in order for me to sing for u. Please let me have the relevant info. I am presently in New York.
Thanks Monique. I do hope that u and your family r well. Interestingly a couple nights ago I dreamt that I saw your dad in NY. I will indeed consider using Azzie on my CDs. He and I go far back.We used to thrill the folks at College with our country and western, oldies and gospel renditions back in the early eighties and I would also consider him to be one of the outstanding singers to come out of the Treasure Beach region.
My dear "old acquaintance" I need to know who u r and where u r in order for me to sing for u. Please let me have the relevant info and I'll gladly oblige you if it is possible.
My dear Fabian, what I meant was, I am happy you are working on your cd's because I enjoyed listening to you and Dean back in the old days. I was not asking for you to sing for me personally (although that would be nice), but please email me...I am totally harmless.
How can you lisen to steves music on his website
cheers.
nice steven keep up the good work!
Burns Parchment older brother Cylde Parchment,England.
Every now and then I come across someone who, if it wasn't for lack of opportunity, would surely have made it big. One such person is John Deleon (Bagga) from Great Bay. John Holt has nothing on him when it comes to vocalizing. If anyone ever heard him cut a tune, you'd know what I mean.
