I was told from my elder that it was year 1969 when a small plane went down in treasure beach and killed 4 people.i have two reasons why i brought up this memory.

first. to clarify the reason why the plane went down, heard of a few reasons like run out of fuel, also plane was overloaded with ST Elizabeth good ganja, may be a few of the elders can clarify what really happen.

second. as we know the famous land mark right by the hotel is known as plane crash and as we all know where there is death there is going to have a few duppy stories so feel free to share. REMEMBER THOSE EYES UNDER THE CELLAR IN THE OLD HOUSE BY THE HOTEL.

here is my story.i am not a man who is afraid of the dead but due to the fact i witness that crash at the age of five or six and still remember the plane going around in circles coming from sunday school at sta anie church and then bang. for the next 5 to 6 years walking by that particular spot i always had some fear whether or not i was with someone or by myself. for some reason there always a pair of eyes under the cellar of the old house right across from where the plane crash.

No for the gravy part to my story, years went by left treasure beach to canada lost the fear of duppy but for some reason still have that edgy heart beat faster when passing plane crash at nights.Well there is a night i am going to share with you all.

It was the year 1987 midweek had to wait out some bar drinkers you know how it is when your dating a bartender, anyways finally it was my time to head on home, as i turn the corner on top of the hill on the stretch towards the hotel i saw someone turn the corner at the hotel i yelled out no one answered i started to walk faster to see if i could catch up with this person, as i went around the corner at the hotel and look ahead there i saw someone going around the corner at aunt julie yelled out again no response this time i started to run, as i approach the corner at aunt julie i look down i saw someone leaning on the fence with his hand in Kimbo infront my uncle house a sigh of relief, now i am getting closer i turned my head for a split second look back and the person disappear bouy did i pick up my two foot and run through that dey grass piece bolt couldnt ketch me that night i dont remember if i went over the fence under the fence or through the fence. here is the joke woke up next morning and went to investigate and realize i was running from a wooded fence that took the shape of a person. when you have fear your imagination could run wild on you.

Great story and thanks for sharing. I just read it out to my co-workers and one replied, "I had that happen with a banana tree one time."

I remembered this plane crash as if it happened yesterday because I was looking at the plane going around and around, up and down then it suddenly dissappeared among the trees and I heard the big bang. They were apparently taking pictures but came down too low and lost altitude and crashed right by a tree almost into the wire line that divide the road and the property that is now owned by 4M cottage.
I remembered running non- stop to see what really happened and when I got there,it was only about four people at the scene. You could tell they were not doing anything illegal, they were just having a fun day of sightseeing.
I rushed back home to tell my mom what happened.

It was not long after a helicopter was circuling over our house and was about to land in our yard when I signalled to them the NO SIGN. I start waving a towel and pointing in the direction in which to go.They gave me their ok signall and started to accend. I watched as they decended, guess they saw the crowd and landed.
I then rushed back to the scene and saw more than I wanted to see.

IT WAS A VERY SAD DAY. MY HEART WENT OUT TO THEIR FAMILIES.
I DO NOT BELIEVE IN GHOST. WALKED THERE MANY TIMES NIGHT AND DAY BY MYSELF.

Personally to me this was not "one of the good old days".

Could someone give us some details of this crash.

How much more detail of the crash do you want?

Meex said it all. Planes crash every day.Big ones and Little ones.
Maybe not in Jamaica but in the USA and all over the world.

Why would it had to be a plane carrying Ganga.

The road is wider right at that spot, apparently Mr Muirhead did not want the crash sight on his property.

I REMEMBER PEOPLE WERE SAYING THE MEN WERE DRUNK, YOU COULD SMELL ALCOHOL ON THEM, AND LIQUER WAS FOUND AT THE SCENE OF THE CRASH.

OK Spooky Dude let me see if i can help you, the plane crashed in August 1969, four men aboard, alcohol was found, persons believe then thats the reason the plane crashed. When the ambulance came there was an argument between the residents and the men in the ambulance, they did not want to take the men, the men in the ambulance claimed that the men were already dead, and they dont transport the dead, but some people belived otherwise.

Hey, I posted the request before Meex's post was published, obviously.
Where the people were from, what they were doing, insignificant details like that. Did they run out of gas and yes, did they have ganga, in which case everyone in the vicinity must have had a big fix! OK from tb? I am from TB too, you may care to know!

The plane crashed early afternoon, alcohol was found in the plane, no mention of drugs. The men were all white. I dont have the time to do any research right now, but if someoneas has the time, i think it would be appreciated to have some more information on this topic. Thank you.

I remembered, trees were down, pieces of the plane scattered, four men just lay there, people seems confused, not sure what to do, shouting, talking, some wanted to rush them to the hospital others said, wait, some keep their distance, some just stay close to see who might be breathing, and some just want to be close because they were shocked, curious, overwhelmed to see a crashed plane with four men lay helpless.Yes it was an early afternoon or very late morning, could be about 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM

Where in Treasure Beach were you nonp? Can never forget that Sunday afternoon when that plane was circling so low. WE all knew it was going to crash. The community all came out and ran to the scene so scared of what they were about to see. It was Yoska that came with his van and took them to the hospital.

Spooky Dude, my question was a yes are no answer. But to be completely honest the reason for asking you if you are who I thought you are is because of a post that you had posted saying uncle pepper, so if you are indeed who I thought you are that would have made us cousins, but out of respect we use to say uncle because of the age differences and thats how it was in those days. I wont disclose my name, but like I said that was my reason for asking because I was excited to know and hoping it was you, but instead whoever you are you hurt my feelings.
Gladys James-Reynolds God rest her soul was my grandmother's sister God rest her soul too, so was just trying to make connection but people do change family are not family. I am sorry for asking but that was my reason.

I am sorry if I hurt your feelings. You see, Carlton Reynolds thought the alias business was sheer stupidity on a site like this and he got blasted. If you had used your name perhaps you would have earned the right to ask the question you did. People don't really change that much, it is just this confounded separation brought about by migration internal and external which has caused families and friends to become strangers. If you really want to make contact with your cousin, you should try using your name and maybe he will respond.

this is the funniest, tangential, detour, and antagonistic conversation to date. who cares who remembers what. Everyone has his/her opinion and memory of life. I am the famous Spooky Dude and so are you. A human with an opinion and a memory that may not match your memory. Honor the history of story telling, and believe and practice what you want. Nonsense to dismiss someone's memory of the past because it doesn't agree with you. Reading the story and memories of everyone is what makes reading important and telling stories to the next generation. Pick and choose what you believe, do and change what is necessary. There is NOTHING wrong with stimulating the mind with questions. In the end the answer is what you believe. May all the souls rest in peace even those who witnessed or heard or this event. Peace is only found within and last while you live and in the afterlife, whatever you decide it is.

Yes, Mr. Hugh Shearer was Prime Minister 69'.Mr. Donald Sangster died a couple of years before from brain hemorrhage.St.Elizabeth people were glad when he became PM because he was from Mountainside. Mr. Whittaker from Mountainside(Don't think he was born there)was Superintendent of Police at Black River and he did the investigations. At the Pedro Plains Police Station I think we had Corporal Ashman, Special Constable Jerry but I don't remember the others. We also had District Constable Roland. We understood that the occupants were wealthy Canadians on vacation and the reports said they rented the plane in Kingston and were travelling around the island. They came down too low and the plane stalled and crashed.(Stalling is a condition in which an aircraft experiences an interruption of airflow resulting in loss of lift and a tendency to drop)When I went there the men were all dead. They were badly broken and two faces were severely disfigured.Alcohol was at the scene but no drugs reported to be found. At the time even if drugs were on board I don't think most of the police would recognise it.Jamaica was almost drug free except a small amount of weed. The law was tough on ganja. One year for a spliff if found guilty. One would serve nine months with good behaviour.

I remember that day like today. It was a Sunday afternoon. I was eight years old. My sisters and i were playing dolly house at the back of our house. On hearing he sound of the plane we started running around saying 'drop mi a dolly.' Then there was this loud bang. What was an awful experience.

I remember, you remember the day but little else! I had no idea that such an event had taken place in TB, but I remember fighter planes from the American base at Vernamfield flying low over the sea close to the beach. I used to think that that was a part of WW2 until I realised that I was born after WW11 had ended!! Memories and reality are usually poles apart! However my memories of TB are etched in my being and I will not rest until I am back where my navel string is buried!

I remember the crash in 1969 as if it was just yesterday! We watched the plane from our verandah at Great Bay as it circled and finally disappeared. It was such a sad day. It was also the very day when the funeral for Norman Manley was occurring.

I vividly remember the entire tragedy. I was 9 at the time. Treasure Beach had seen a renewed boom in tourism as 'Bauxite was king'. These guys were engineers from one of the Bauxite companies who had rented a plane to come and buzz their friends and families who were visiting the Treasure Beach Hotel for the weekend.

The plane appeared on the scene and circled the hotel a few times. Was a Cesna 172. On about the 4th circle the engine sputtered and restarted. They did not finish the cirle as the pilot tried to regain control,He tried to put it down in the grass piece where it crashed .He tried to put it down in a clearing in the field but his glideslope was about 100' short as trees hindered him. It crashed nose down between two trees. Within seconds, people were on the scene from the hotel and people from close by. I was sitting on a bench in Christopher Gordon's (Papa Chritopher as he was affectionately called)yard.I was eating bulla and pear at the time (SMILE).I remember, someone had to cut off a few fingers of one of the guys in the front seat, as his fingers got caught between the instrument panel as it opend and closed on impact. Two died on the spot and the other 2 died on the way to Black River Hospital. One kept saying, "my wife,my children". Bones were sticking out of ankles and other gruesome scenes.I can remember their friends and families who were stayinf at the were crying. The smell of alcohol was everywhere. As a curious 9 year old who had a passion for flying,I was all over the scene. That did not deter me. I went on the qualify as certified Airframe & Powerplant Mechanic and flew planes of similar size. The cardinal rule of flying still hold true, '8 hours from bottle to throttle'.
