Novlette Dennis
Responding to second "Classmate":
It is not the case that almost almost everyone from this class migrated.
If you look at the names that I have already listed most of them are still in Jamaica.
Happily, I am one of those still here as well.
o yeah please it would be nice to say who you are with your name please
wow this didn't go the way i thought it would, first i thought when i heard the names the brain gear box would kick in to second gear but i think it went into reverse because most of those additional names classmate mention i don't remember, although a few did ring a bell for instance Anne e banks was that the one from billy's bay and Paula dillion from great bay i did mention Pete Campbell i don't remember his sister in our class and Wilson Taylor did you mean Windsor Taylor. next i just want to take this opportunity to say hello to you all and hope you are all doing okay may god bless you and don't be afraid to write a few words back i know writing wasn't the number one thing in Mrs bev era she always told us you can learn so much from reading and boy we sure did a lot of that i don't think there is a Nancy drew n hardy boys mystery book we didn't read hey earl n Jerry,
Very intrested topic:
I was born in 1961, so what happen to all my class mate? Can we come forward and try to re-connect with each other too...I would love dat...
Hey Boysie! This is Earl. I was the “Classmate” trying to supply as many of the names as possible.
Normally I use my name for all postings on this forum but I refrained from doing so initially this time simply because I did not wish to offend anyone by inadvertently leaving some names out.
There are still some names that I have not quite remembered and I hope nobody will think this is a deliberate snub on my part. It's just that this was a long time ago. Like you, Boysie, I left Sandy Bank Primary in 1975 (through the Common Entrance exam); that's 37 years ago!
Bear in mind that there are some persons who were in the same class with us in basic school and for the first two years of primary school but then changes were made after grade two and those born before September were promoted one grade above those born after September. When you speak of your former classmates therefore you have to bear in mind that there are some who were with you up to grade two and others who went with you all the way up to grade five. Wade Thompson and Loxley Ashman; for example, might have been among those who were promoted after grade two.
I think the regular grade two teacher would have been Miss Ditty but she was off at teacher's college during our year and so our teacher for that year might have been Miss July. There was also a teacher's assistant with us that year; Mag Powell (who, sadly, passed away recently). She came in under the National Youth Service Programme, along with Eldorine Senior.
If I recall correctly, one of our grade five teachers was Adonie Ebanks (please forgive me if I got the spelling wrong); sister of the current principal, Zane Ebanks.
You mention the Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew series; I also recall that Mackie Smith taught us in grade five as well and that he would take away our Hardy Boys book (and then read it himself!) if he caught us reading it when we should have been concentrating on our class work. :-)
Back to some of your follow-up queries: Wilson Taylor is the son of Maas Beres Taylor. Tracey Campbell is Pete's cousin and he was one of the most avid readers of the Hardy Boys/ Nancy Drew series as well!
Okay; that's enough nostalgia for one day!
Hope this helps, cuz!
whats up cuz mom said she saw you the other day and you look well that's nice to hear.earl i want you to me a favor please when you see your mom can you give her a big hug and a big kiss and tell her i love her, as a matter of fact make that two your body too small i think you might have to double it up, and also remind her that she has a trend to follow with her brother and sisters 95 a breeze, okay back to the thread earl being earl always concern about others feelings but this is a case call for understanding its been 37 years and i think you did a great job, and just to let you i was about 99.9 percent sure that was you anyways come on earl always helpful to the situation.i am still hoping that some of my ex classmates would just take one minute of their time to say hello and maybe share a memory or two because 10 to 20 years from now you might not even remember your own kids name hahahaha.
Here are some names I could think of:
Linda James,Sally James, Allan Crow, Rick ? Bevon Campbell,Erwin James, Winsome Parchment, C Dicker, Ted Parchment, Sophia Powell,Kevin Parchment, Aka Puss Juck can't remember the ones from Billys Bay. Would be nice to see some of these people again.
Gosh Earl you have all the facts.
To class @ S/Bank Primary1967-1973...I would love to link up all those frenz too..
Boysie, what have you started? A great sense of nostalgia has overtaken me by reading this thread.Hello all my classmates; I had a wonderful experience at Sandy Bank and it was good to be reminded of some of the names I had forgotten.Did anyone mentioned Austin Rochester from Great Bay? I can't forget him as we had a fight on the cricket field just before we graduated. Just recently he was asking my sister of my whereabouts and relating the incident to her. She humorously told him that she could not tell him where I was as she was afraid he seek revenge. Guys I am not and was never a violent person. I guess that was youthful exuberance.Hi my friend Austin. There was also Ivy Sanderson from Billy's Bay and Pauline who used to live on the road where Wild Onion is located.Earl, you are really a history book. That Grade 2 split, I forgot all about.Yvonne James' name just came to me.God bless everyone, enjoy mid-life.
Mag Powell died? How long ago is this? Eldorine Senoir, anyone knows where she is?
whats up jerry what took you so long i guess you were in the same fibre boat as myself lost to some of the names, and speaking of earl a history book i always told u to stop teasing him about his ears those were some secret weapons.jerry was that the pauline whose nose coulda run bouy or was that simone.and fight thats not like you and he wants revenge i guess we know won that fight,i wouldnt think anyone would want to fight you,you was always big and tall austin was a brave one oh i forgot you said he is from great bay brave its part of their tradition.iam still hoping that some of the long last classmate would find a minute just to say hello would be nice so far it has been only you and earl have rectify who you are and i dont know why because even if Alzheimer catch me i dont think i could forget you guys peace n love.
Yes,Mag Powell died a few years ago in Florida. Eldorine Senior is living in New York.
Hi Boysie classmate name withheld for now. There are some other names that has been left out as everyone come together we will remember some naes and some we dont Carolyn Gordon beverly Ebanks,Lizard cant recall his correct nameand of course Windsor Taylor,Wilson Taylor and Windell. My first beating from teacher thompson was Jerry told him i said something naughty anyway Jerry was a good classmate hi jerry. I think there was a teacher by the name of sallas who taught us please correct the name for me if i mispelled it incorrect.Earl your memories will last forever i could not recall all you did .Boysie if you go on face book then we can link up.classmate
Yes, a Mr. Sellars taught us for a while. I think he is related to Ms Madge. With all these names, it would appear we had one of the biggest classes at the school. I guess we were products of the Jamaican independence feeling or celebration which filled the air during the early 60s.This contributed our large class entering Sandy Bank Primary School seven years later.Cheers everyone.
Here are two additional names: Norris Powell, grandson of Maas Ivan and Miss Aida. He and his brother migrated to be with their parents in England mid-way through primary school. Then there was Collin Murray who joined us for one year. He and I left via the Common Entrance exam in 1975.
Euphemia (Lucy) Stephenson was also with us for a while before she moved up to Pedro Plains Primary.
I have a feeling there are a few additional names from Bluntas and Beacon that we might still be leaving out.
By the way, Jerry; I don’t know why I thought Pauline Forbes was a year behind us. Did she jump one class to join you guys in Grade Six after I left? Something tells me that might have been the case.
Regarding those who were originally with the group before being moved one grade higher, it’s interesting that one of them; a particularly petite young lady, later became my ‘better half’!
I remember clearly that at our school leaving concert in ’75 (It wasn’t grand enough to be called a graduation then!) she, Sophia Powell and I sang “The Kneeling Drunkard’s Plea” by the Louvin Brothers. Little did I know that a decade later we would be married!
So tell your children to be nice to their classmates. Who knows what might happen down the road!
Boysie, speaking of my mom; I don't know whether you remember the day you hit me with a stone!
Little fools that we were, you and I thought it would be fun to throw stones at each other in that lane that runs by the school during lunch break.
Well, you were a bit more accurate than me with one of your throws and so I caught it right between the eyes!
I ran home screaming with the blood flowing down my face and you right behind me! When we got into the yard Mommy ran out to see what the commotion was all about. You kept saying "Sorry Aunty; sorry! A neva mean fi lick him!"
You were so distraught she probably ended up feeling more sorry for you than for poor me! After she was finished fixing my wound, she hugged you and gave you a BIG lunch and sent you away feeling a lot better!
Mag Powell died about 8-10 years ago and Eldorine Senior lives in the Bornx, New York
It's really nice to read some of these stories! yes Jerry was teacher Thompson watch person - but I still liked him.Let's set up a Face Book page for Sandy Bank Primary, there is one for Mayfield All Age.
yes jerry former classmate is right on that i doughted you ever got a taste of the rod of correction thats not being a tattle tale that was being smart kept that belt a far distance.
o yes earl remember it well ever since that hit we couldnt take you off the top of the class are you gonna thank me lol,and from you see the belly in front of me you know food is the remedy, earl your mom treated me like i was one of her own and i will always love her tell her i will see her this Christmas even if i have to walk halfway and swim the rest haffi reach this year mi a get too white haffi come get some colour.
Former Classmate, I really can't recall being teacher Thompson's watch person? I also felt the effect of his thick leather belt,"Hurricane".This came about when his son Wade told innocent me to knock two stones together when the D&G truck stopped in front of the school. This, I later learnt was very offensive to the dumb man who worked on the truck. He made some high-pitched sounds and waved his hands threateningly towards me. The commotion was so great that Teacher Thompson came out to investigate; and of course Wade pointed me out after setting me up.I was the only one who felt the "hurricane" that evening. And guess what I got seconds when I got home.
I remember that incident quite clearly, Jerry; and some of us were not happy that you were the one punished.
Does anyone knows what happened to Wade? Z Thompson favourites: Sophia Powell, Jerry Hamilton, Earl Moxam, Loxley Ashman.... can't remember the others.
(classmate.)I am younger than you guy but i happen know some of your classmates and there is a set of twain,Nema and Neta Gordon how could you mention one and not the other
OH, PLEASE, I left 1975, and many more too left that year.
It was such a pleasure reading the comments posted. It brings back such wonderful memories of my time at Sandy Bank Primary School. It would be so wonderful to see all of you mentioned, but that's not the case when i visit Jamaica. I've seen Earl about two years ago.It was good to see you Earl. And Boysie,by the way,i was not the poor girl with the runny nose!I know who is was, but taking care not to offend anyone.Boysi, won't join you on that fibre boat!Would be great to see you Jerry, remember cooking with "Aunty" and the "big kids"? That was such fun,we were such grown ups then! God bless everyone.
Where is that smart guy Tracy Campbell, he had some people sweating, trying to keep up with him. I hope Tracy and all my other classmates are doing well, Tracy is really a genius.
SOME OF US WEREN'T THAT SMART, BUT WE PICK UP THE CHALLENGES FROM THE SMART ONES AND THANK GOD WE MADE IT THROUGH.
Speaking of smart guy dont forget Collin Murray and the sisters from Great Bay.
I always wondered why the brightest spark, Tracy Campbell did not sit the Common Entrance Examination, there were some girls from Great Bay, very bright, these kids performance did not surprise anyone, they were naturally bright, they too did not sit the Common Entrance Examination.
Hi everyone, hope you are doing great. It has been a long, long, time since i havn't seen you guys. Wouldn't be nice to have a reunion.
Jerry Hamilton was a genius too, he was very helpful to us, wasn't selfish at all and prepared himself well in class, very disciplined, i would expect him to be a very successful individual today.
Very disappointing that so many of those who have responded on this thread have opted not to reveal their identity.
Given the nature of the discussion; a group of classmates reminiscing on their school days, it would be nice to know who is who.
Obviously, that's a matter of personal choice and I respect that, but I wish it were otherwise.
Hide & Seek,
Thanks for the "big up" but I am not sure about the genius part. I would leave it at being hardworking, focused and persevering. I also loved school and felt loved growing up.I am blessed. God has been good to me.By the way aren't we too old to be still playing hide and seek? I fully endorse what Earl said.So far only Boysie, Earl, Simone and I have removed our masks.
hello there simone, girl i havnt seen you in such a long time, i do hope your okay and for me iam good just trying to be the best grandfather in the world, yes i said it i have a 4 year old grand daughter that looks just like grandpa, finally i get one to spoil didnt spoil my kids but i am about to spoil this one rotten. okay enough of that, lets go back to school days you mention about cooking with your aunty are you referring to the school cafeteria, and if you are which aunt are you talking, there seems to be little coincident here first earl now you it seems like most memories of me food seems to be involve lol. hope to see soon i will be in treasure beach Christmas this year.
Good to know, Jerry. We are never too old for hide and seek.
Good to know, Jerry. We are never too old for hide and seek.
Hello all former classmates.Earl you are absolutely right this thread i find it very interesting it bring back memories of good and bad times at S.B.Primary .I am one of them who were hiding my identity not smart.I can also recall back in those days with Miss Tilda when the bell ring for break sometime i am the first to break that corner sometime she's not there i step on my brakes really had sharp ones. This amazed me a good idea to have a reunion making plans to be there this year God bless you all and have a good one.
okay we are getting there five down thirty five to go we are almost there lol. whats up yvonne,so happy you change your mind and reveal your name, i was looking forward to hear from you.were you the classmate that mention about face book.
Hi Yvonne! Glad to see you have come out of the shadows as well!
Boysie,'Aunty' was not my Aunt per se.She was the cook at the school and was known by that name, which was adopted by the children.Aunty lived in Sandy Bank and was the Grandmother of Yvonne. She was very kind to the kids, more so to her "helpers" in the canteen, she would always give us a bigger bowl of soup than the other kids.I can still remember her steaming soup with dumpling!Sure beat some of the lunch choices kids are given these days.Cheers.
When i started this thread my intentions was to see how many names i could acquire, and from there i was hoping that i would get a good portion of my past classmates and try to see if we could work on putting a reunion together, but that fail.
OKAY,I CAME UP WITH A PLAN, HOW ABOUT THIS, IF YOU ARE WITH ME ON THIS PLEASE DO AS FOLLOW.
NAME= Boysie clarke
YEAR= Flexible
SEASON= Christmas preferably
and if for some reason you cannot put your name i will ask Earl if we could supply a email address for you to contact. yes earl i know i should have contacted you on this first but i think your gonna love the idea. call you tomorrow.
Simone, Simone,The thought of the red peas soup n dumpling have me licking my lips. And Speaking of red peas soup n dumpling who was the champion dumpling eater in our class and who was his challenger, if you dont know the answer to this question that means you were not in our class lol.
Boysie,i do have some memory of red peas soup and dumpling eating "contest" but i don't recall the Champion or the Challenger. From all the licking of lips,i'm guessing you were the Champion!!!? Jerry or Ted as the Changeller? What do you think Classmates?Reading back to one of Earl's question in his earlier posting,Pauline Forbes, as far as i can recall, was always in the same class as us.And congratulation Boysie on being a Grandfather.Wow!!
Sorry, Simone, but why did you think Ted or I was the Challenger? Remember some little people have big appetites but I can't give any more clues. Cheers.
Hi Earl, compliments to myself out of the shadows. Boysie it seems you had a good time with the red peas soup and dumpling,i remember helping my grandmother making those dumpling. And by the way Boysie i think you were the champion on the red peas soup and dumpling congratulation a million lol.Hi simone did you make dumpling too?
why is it the one with the belly always gets the blame. and no i was not the champion nor was i the challenger but i will give you guys a hint who was the champ he not only had a big mouth,he also had some big feet to go along with the mouth.
You're right Jerry, some little people do have big appetite as well, but i was merely guessing on my part,no special reason why i picked you and Ted.Hope you're not offended.Hi Yvonne,i was one of "Aunty's" helpers. It was so much fun making dumplings then, but i so hate making then now!Hope you're well.
Just that you "youngsters" know, I did assist in the kitchen too while Miss Evie aka aunty was there and I am more than 10 years your guys' senior. How can I forget the red peas soup and dumplings? Dont ask me who I am though, I can't recall. lol
RIP Miss Evie
I'm not sure Aunty was always given enough peas for the soup so she had to "stretch it" to feed all those hungry stomachs! :-)
Not her fault at all!
didnt miss the peas at all earl, and it seems aunty was there for a good while my mom also had some of that red peas soup n dumpling. and thank you very much oldtimer for the compliment youngsters wow that felt good just hope i feel the same when i wake up in the morning for work in 4 hours.
O YEAH WHY DO I FEEL LIKE I AM BEING IGNORED ON A CERTAIN SUBJECT I HAD BROUGHT UP, COME ON GUYS NOTHING TRY NOTHING DONE.
No Simone, what is there to be offended about?
Boysie , nice to touch base with you.Hello Yvonne, what's up?
YEAR: Flexible
SEASON: preferably Christmas
Boysie, was this what you were being ignored with?
Earl, you hit the nail on the head there was'nt enough peas to the soup.some would have four dumpling two bites to each one how fortunate these guys were not getting choke.dumpling were not small ones. Then return for a second round. I am sooooooooooooo interested in a reunion no one seems to be. On our own!i'll be down before you know it guys peace and love.
Christmas is too expensive!try sometime in June, turnout will be good...Just saying.
Boysie,
You've said Mommy treated you "like her own." Well, you were, and are, her own. You are her grand-nephew and she, like the rest of the Moxam family, adored you then and now. I used to enjoy your visits when you and Jerry would come home with Earl. You were quite the little charmer and spoke a million-words-per-minute! Observing the friendship among the three of you was a treat. I recall you all took great pride in being able to spell "Czechoslovakia." I still can't and just had to look it up. But I bet you can't remember how to spellit now either so it balances out in the end
I believe Neema and Neeta Gordon are still in Kingston. Mr. Sellers now lives in New Jersey, US.
Do give my regards to your mom.
Be well!
-Mar
hey whats up cuz i cant believe you remember that actually that is my favorite word to ask others to spell i wonder if earl and jerry remember
Actually, Boysie, I recall Tracey challenging us to spell that word!
But I'm sure Mar is correct about you as well.
it was interested to read you guys stories about SB school.i too remember some of you guys but i was in a lower class.it is always good to remenis on olden times.tracy sister was the chamption dumplin eater in our class.
great memories I have a few more names, mainly from great bay, tommy wong, Charles dillion, wayne or "skinny" because of his laugh, angie gale, please forgive me in advance for any incorrect spelling of the given names. It would be great to have a reunion.
