RIP, Aubrey Crowe

Cousin Aubrey Crowe was such a sweet young man who left us way too soon. May your precious soul rest in God's peace.

As I girl I was fascinated by the interest that my father, Alburn Crowe, showed in any book written about the Bermuda Triangle. I have always been an avid reader and so I would be hanging around impatiently, waiting for Papa to finish reading so I could get the book after him. Then there would follow discussions and speculations tinged with an underlying , faint hope for an explanation that would return those lost in the infamous Bermuda Triangle area, to their loved ones. For us, that translated into the hope that my father's nephew, Aubrey, and my cousin would one day turn up alive. This hope was based on the fact that the Snowboy is one of the ships believed to have fallen prey to the mystery of the Triangle.

I never knew Aubrey in person but my uncles,including the ones who are now deceased, as well as my father have often spoken of him with love. Together with my brothers and sisters, we all hold his memory in our hearts. We also take care to pass on his memorial to our children so that his place in our family and in our hearts will continue as long as our family line continues. Be at Peace in God my very special Cousin, Aubrey Crowe.

I am adding this message on behalf of my mother June Patricia Crowe; a.k.a. Patsy Crowe, who was born to Hytis Crowe of Treasure Beach. My mother often spoke fondly of my uncle whom I never met, when she talks about the brother that she lost. She tells me that she was 3 years old and remembers the day that Uncle Aubrey told her he was going away and that he would bring her a bicycle when he returned, Unfortunately he never did return. May your soul live among the inhabitants of Heaven by God's precious mercy. We love you.

My beloved brother, Aubrey Crowe,we played as children,even though i was 3yrs old when you went down on the snow boy.your face is vivid in my mind.but i do remember you.you know i did not like eggs so you ate them for me.Our Father Hytis Crowe ,shed many tears for you,i saw them.But GOD had a better place for you.Yor memories live on ,we will all tell our children & grandchildren of your story...that you wanted to be a fisherman like your father ,so you followed your heart.you had gone fishing on the snowboy before a few times before only one more time .The last time ,never to return, I waited many years and thought you would come back with my bicycle a childs wish.I have also thought you were living in Cuba with a new family.Lost but not forever, because when the Lord returns i will see you again and you will tell me what happened to you.Love you always your sister Patsy...

Does anyone know what happened to the Snowboy? I've been reading the stories you have written here, including the reference to the Bermuda Triangle. I wonder if anyone knows anything about why the Snowboy went down. Thank you

Elaine I was 2 months old when this boat dissapeared. I am now 45..is your parents from Treasure Beach?

Elaine, The Snowboy sank while enroute from Kingston to Pedro Cays with 39 fishermen in 1963. It was said to have been overloaded or badly loaded. None of the fishermen survived. At least a third of them were from the Treasure Beach area, which is why it struck the people of this community so hard.
It remains the biggest maritime tragedy in Jamaica's modern history.
The reference to the Bermuda Triangle is hardly relevant here as this tragedy took place far from that zone and quite a few items from the boat were found floating in the vicinity of the area in which it is believed The Snowboy went down.

I have been reading many entries on treasurebeach.net and I am deeply touched by the sentiments expressed to families and friends of those lost to the sea. I am moving to the Treasure Beach area and I am thankful to know that I will be joining a community of such caring, kind and loving people.

Reading the article Lost at Sea brought tears to my eyes, since I stayed twelve days in that area in Feb/08. It is good to know that these fishermen are still in the memories of the people in the area and to pay tribute to them was wonderful. Keep up the good work South St. Bess and God Bless.

I never knew my cousin Aubrey. My mother Elorine alway talks about her nephew Aubrey. I am 43 years old and I have grown up knowing all about Aubrey and many other relatives that are lost to the sea. These memories will stay with me forever. God Bless

My brother Aubrey Crowe has died in my heart.

I understand that a young man named Aubrey Crowe was also aboard the Snowboy. Were Aubrey and Alvery cousins?

My gg-grandfather, Julius Edwin Crowe, was from St. Elizabeth and I have been working to connect him to his correct family for 2 1/2 years. The nearest I have gotten is to connect him to William "Waxie" Crowe (1891-1962) who may have been his nephew.

I understand that William "Waxie" Crowe had a cousin, Nevis Crowe whose son Alvery died on board the Snowboy.
