The third staging of the Jakes Beach Soccer Invitational will be held on August 4 and 5th at Great Bay, Treasure Beach, St. Elizabeth.

The Tournament which is fully endorsed by the Jamaica Football Federation has been receiving growing national and regional support and participation.

This year the Jamaican National Beach Soccer team and the Bahamas National team will be amongst the national teams participating in the competition. A number of local clubs at the premier (Waterhouse FC and Humble Lions FC), major and super league levels have also registered to participate.

Further the coach of the Bahamas team, Roberto Ceciliano (former Brazilian national player) will stage a Beach Football Clinic on August 3. 

The Jamaica Football Federation has been putting some focus to the development of the sport in Jamaica to take advantage of the natural assets of the country. The sport has been on the rise globally and is described as one of the fastest growing professional sports in the world. Its growth is related to the fact that it is considered spectacular, high goal scoring, acrobatic and physically attractive.

The JFF's Technical Committee will soon be discussing the formation of a Local Beach Football Committee to drive the growth of the sport in Jamaica.

There will be a total of $100,000 as prizes at the Soccer Invitational.

Mazola Mwashighadi was born in 1964 in Kenya. He received his diploma in Fine Art from the Creative Art Centre, Nairobi, Kenya. He has had one-person exhibitions in Kenya and Jamaica, and was accepted into the Annual National Exhibition of the National Gallery of Jamaica.

He has illustrated a book and done commissions of murals and mosaics. He received the Commonwealth Art and Fellowship award for the Africa Region in 1996/7, when he first visited Jamaica to study. He now lives and works in Kingston.

Taino Cove presents “A Treasure Hunt of Fashion and Tales” in honour of Jamaica's 50th anniversary. As our contribution to Culture Fest 2012 we salute the essence of Treasure Beach, a laid back, friendly, community-oriented village, that’s off the beaten track with an unbelievable store of undiscovered treasures.

We are proud to be home to descendants of all the races and ethnic groups that make Jamaica unique, the English, the Indians, the Scottish, the Germans, the Tainos, and the Africans.

The hall mark of the events of Taino Cove is audience participation and everyone will have an opportunity to display their treasures or to see themselves represented on stage as well as in the craft, the food, the music and the performances displays.

Come to “A Treasure Hunt of Fashion and Tales” and hear stories you have never heard before from people you did not know were story tellers. Bring the entire family and enjoy the surprises that will unfold. It is a Treasure Hunt.

For lovers of literature and a good lime, Two Seasons Talking Trees Literary Fiesta is happening on Saturday, February 25, 2012 in Treasure Beach on the grounds of Two Seasons Guest House (www.2seasonsguesthouse.com). Please do visit our blog at www.2seasonsguesthouse.com/blog for details.

The programme is a a stimulating mix of well-known and new Jamaican writers, who will begin to tell their stories at 10 a.m. The poetic voices of Michael Abrahams, Malachi Smith, Easton Lee, Christine Craig, Monique Morrison, fabian thomas, and Kalilah Enriquez will be joined by folklorist Fern Luecke, novelists Melanie Schwapp, Roland Watson- Grant, Igoni Barrett and non-fiction writer, Mark Thomas.
Playwright Aston Cooke will give a first reading of his production Jonkanoo Jamboree, which was written especially for Jamaica’s 50th Independence celebrations.

The focus of the panel discussion is Writing for Children, and panelists are children’s writers Diane Brown, Jean Forbes, Kellie Magnus, and Sharon Martini. Suzanne Francis-Brown will be the moderator.

A children’s programme will run simultaneously through the day managed by Ingrid Blackwood.
