Treasure Beach Forum: ID-It?: Another Feburary 2002
Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageÝLink to this messageÝÝBy TBnet on Sunday, February 17, 2002 - 09:56 am:

The idea is simple. If you think you know the answer to one of the following questions, send us an email with your guess. We're hoping a lot of people will include interesting stories and anecdotes about the places and people shown.

In a few days we'll reveal the winners and everyone's replies.

TOURIST:

Where is this?
tourist
YARDIE:

Who is this?
yardie

Email us at contest@treasurebeach.net us with:
1) Which question you are answering (Tourist or Yardie)
2) Your guess,
3) Any story or other comments you have about the picture.

RULES:
We put up a picture that we think tourists can ID and one that 'yardies' can ID. To keep it fair you'll have to pick which one to guess at. If you include a guess for each picture, you're entry(s) will be canceled.

The first entries received with the correct answers will be the winners. The time stamp on the reply will be the final authority.

If you win, we'll use your name (not email address) and perhaps a picture if you so desire to announce our winner.

Good Luck!
hr

We've had several correct answers for the Yardie question but none for the Tourist, so we'll leave that one open for now.

The gentleman identified in the picture was correctly ID'd by:

-----
Jennifer Lewis:

This is Kettle. If you are fortunate enough to cross his path, buy him a rum and ask him to sing for you. It's a real treat!!!
------
Percy ... from Billys Bay:

Dis is Keckle from Fort Charles and him is a good dancer..yeah. He plant a likkle garden around. He is a very jocky guy too. We call him Duppy Fort Charles.
------
Kevin Roper:

You want me to tell you stories about Kettle?

Where do you start?

All day and all night miss mary ann, was sitting(?) on the beach
sifting sand...

need I go on.

How did Kettle get his name?
One day shortly after arriving in TB he was passing some people making fishpots. Says he "Fish pot, fish pot, is pure fishpot mi see
roun' ya, whe' di fish kettle".
-----

THANKS to everyone who gave an answer. Feel free to add your own comments below.

Let's see if anyone can figure out where the tourist picture was taken...

My very first time in TB I had the good fortune to met Kettle. I was having dinner at Carmen's (Tiffanys) And he came around and started singing to me...what was so amazing is that he was singing Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald classics...we loved it. We bought him a rum and he told us it was his first...when we said today? He said , No man, this minute!
I always smile when I think of that day, send him my love...

Kettle, Kettle, Kettle....where so I start. Always has something to offer. Whether it be a song, dance, joke, story, crocodile...He gave me one on my 16th birthday!!! Huge heart. He always gave me gifts of nature, example: a stone, the perfect shape of a heart. I have you on videotape (singing and telling stories, of course), consider it cherished. I appreciate you and all the lessons you taught me. Always.

(he calls me "Shooby-Dooby")

Brad...thanks for the great mental image of Kettle sitting behind a computer checking email. I can only imagine the sites that he'd find of interest!

You're right...if you haven't spent time with him, you're missing out. I remember one night when a friend and I were staying at Mosley's, we went to pay him a visit and deliver some craven A's we'd bought fo him. What a great couple of hours.

Funny, I never noticed this ID-it before.

What's the answer for the Tourist question?

I'm trying to locate Jerry Mosely, If any one could help me that would be great!he is how I also met Kettle. I know that this is not the proper site to do this but considering the cumunicatian problem's your having in tb right now I'm trying every thing! this is the close'est I've gotten so far. We lost contact a few year's back,(long story)

This is the wall of a bar located just before reaching Haddo on your trip from Montego Bay down to the South Coast.

Many drivers stop at this bar as it has cold beer and clean restrooms. The name of the bar is Central Stop.
