This month's Profile we view Arthur James, also known as Keith.

Arthur James, was born on April 25, 1925. He lives in Billy's Bay with his wife Idova. This union produced nine children, five boys and four girls. At age sixteen he started fishing; he continued this for many years. He was interested in boat building and became a boat builder. These boats were made from cottonwood trees. He did boat building for thirty five years and stopped building when fibre glass boats became the more popular of the two to the fishermen. After boat building he became a shop keeper.

His favourite colour is blue. His favourite meal is beef soup with bammy bread. He loves to give jokes and tells old time stories.

He strongly believes in Christianity. I asked, "Why?" He replied saying, "Without Christ there is no peace, nor love." As a Christian, people in and around the community would come to him for fatherly advice. Because he was loving and kind to the children, grown-ups, and older folks, whenever they visit him, some would say, "This man was like a father to me."

When asked what he thinks about the community compared to his time he said that it is more developed with bigger houses and guest houses, many shops and plazas. Children are more educated now but in his time they were under stricter rules and therefore more disciplined.

He loves his country Jamaica and wishes that crime and violence will disappear and peace and love will reign forevermore.

What a lovely profile of a truly lovely man.

I have been lucky enough to call Keith my father-in-law in Jamaica for many years. Although I am not still married into the family, both he and Idova have remained family to me and my daughter, and kept their door and arms open to us.

I have always been able to depend on him for sound advice and opinions in my time living in Jamaica. He has taught me the importance of family, and faith and that we all make our decisions for the right reasons.

I have never known him to judge anyone for anything. He only holds love for people, and encourages people to "live good amongst people".

My daughter Clara (his grandaughter) adores her Grandpa Keith, and although has not had a whole lot of time with him, has enjoyed visiting and asking him questions of the olden days in Treasure Beach. She proudly keeps a picture of her and her Grandpa Keith and Grandma Dova next to her bed, and talks with the picture like she is talking to them. She learned this from her Grandpa Keith, as he has always said that he loves to play with and talk to the pictures of Clara that I send. Arthur connects with people both in his community and family far away in the best way he can.

You have written a wonderful profile Kenroy. Well done. Keep reaching for the stars.... if you want to be a businessman, then keep it as a goal and work hard. You can do it!

Please hug Grandpa Keith for me and your cousin Clara when you see him!

You could never put those word together any better Kenroy. My grandfather is a true father to many young people in Billy's Bay he always have very sound advice to many who sits on those big chair on the verandah. He always want whats best for the young people in the community always encouraging and giving them good advice on what they should do with their future. He believes in good strong family values. Both him and my grandmother is such caring and loving people. The door to their home is never close to anyone in need. I remember growing up in that home many of their friends dinner would be waiting for them when they stop by even in the morning young and old would come by every morning for a cup of coffee and no one was ever refuse. I love my grandfather very much and wish many would take some of his out look on life and put it to their way of living.

You are a truly bless man and i hope you will be around for quiet sometime to encourage and advice me and many more

LOVE Keith as we lovingly call you
Granddaughter Andrea, Trey and Zach

Hi Uncle Authur, its so great to see your picture on this web site, Iam so blown away as to how good you look, unfortunately I have not been home since you got sick and I could never image you looked this good, you are as young as ever, everything your grandson said and more is so true of you, you took in everyone into your home, they are always welcome for food and for a place to stay, there is no one that I can think of, that is more deserving for a bigger praise, you was such a hard worker and a giver, there is no words to express that enough. hopefully I will be able to see you real soon, Iam so,so glad to see you have recovered so well, and I love you very much, keep well and stay as young and honsome as you are. your grandson did a good job and he is just as good looking.

A well written profile by such a handsome young nephew in law, "boy" you couldn't have written a better biography of your grandfather.

I am very proud and lucky to be the daughter in law of this wonderful person, Keith, for 33 years now. He has been a wonderful mentor and counselor to all. Through all the years that I have known Keith we have had a very good relationship, he was always around to give me real sound advice.I can say he has been a very good counselor to me many times.Keith and sta-dova(wife) will give away there last meal and go to bed hungry.

Keith I was amazed to see how great you look knowing what you have been through with that stroke, but one thing I can see is that with christ in the vessel you are smiling at the storm and as the song writer says "though your ship may be rocking and your sail may be torn you will rest in the eyes of the storm". May you ever keep your eyes focus on the lord; and even though you may not be walking in this present life in the next you will be running and skipping for joy.

Bye for now, but hoping to see you soon!

Love always and forever, daughter in law, Zonie and Family (Anna, Erica, Sophia, Corrie, and Fanchon) and don't forget the great grands we all love you.

"through many dangers, toils and snares you have already come; God's grace has brought you this far and his grace will lead you home." There really is no words suficient to capture just what a fine human being you are. You have given so much to us all your children and grandchildren and countless number of your peers and strangers alike. if you had a dime for your goodness you would be mighty rich but i know you are rich where it matters most. I never could understand why these words were so famous with you "buoy mi jus deh yaah suffa yu nuh", but the great ones always does. They are the ones who choose to carry another man's burden whether it be a hungry family or a parent with no money for their kids for school,or a daughter or son in a bind you find a way to give of your nothing so life for someone else can go on. Those are the words of a man who is depleted by acts of selflessness day in and day out, the kindness of a heart that moves with compassion for his fellowman,a man who invest so much in giving with minimal earthly reward or gain. your life is like a perpetual sacrifice, always emptying the pantry to give to the neighbor, handing him your morsel of meal because it is too small to share so you go without so he can have, yet no one knows you are left without. How do we begin to say thank you are where would we even start. I am beyond proud to know, to have and to call you my grandpa.I hope i can be half the man you are cause that would be pretty special. William Sheakspare said "Be not afraid of greatness, some are born great, some achieve greatness and some have greatness thrust upon them". You exemplify everything yo me that is great, from your hardwork, your humility, your compassionate heart, your integrity, your contributions to the survival of your fellow citizens through endless, selfless acts of kindness, you are pretty special in my eyes and you will live on in me, in my children and in so many who will remember and share those moments when you Grandpa made a difference in their lives. I now we can never adequately give you your due honor but remember these words as you draw closer to home," You have fought a good fight,You have finish your course, You have kept the faith; Henceforth now, there is laid up for you a crown of righteouness which the Lord the righteous judge shall give you on that day". stay strong and keep on keeping on. I know ma is taking good care of you and God sure know what he was doing when he put you too together because every great man needs an equally great woman and ma has been your better half for so long, and you're still riding the waves together makes me so proud that there is way to make it, together side by side, through thick and thin, sickness and health for better for worse, thanks once again for being to me a great example and my hero is so many things and in so many ways, Love you Rohan and the family.

I don't know this gentleman at all, but his grandson has captured what I saw mirrored in his kind, peaceful, loving and wrinked face. Truly the eyes are windows to the souls, wrinkles tell the story of faith and hope. I just wanted to say that his kind and gentle face said it as well as his grandson did.

Ol' Buddy that's what I would call him, because he was more than a grandfather to me. Like all people he came in contact with, he has made such an impact in my life. If not for him I wouldn't be the man I am today. I am not only proud to have him as apart of my life, but greatful for being able to say "that's my Ol' Buddy". I remember the days growing up as a boy watching my grandfather build boats with his chisel & hatchet. He used to always tell me "your a man when you can turn your own house key". It's funny how the words of wisdom he shared with us would make more sense over the years. I thank God for all that he has taught me over the years. I have learned from him that making it in the world and being successful in life is not about having money, it's about having the right people by your side to get through the hard times & the everyday struggles. He taught us that having God in our lives was imortant. My gransfather believes if you believe in God you can overcome the many struggles & opticles that life puts before us. I haven't seen my grandparents in over 11 years & because of this it has been a very difficult time for me. I wish I had told them more often how much I love them & how much they mean to me. I only hope that someday I will get the chance to tell them face to face. I also hope for my grandparents to one day meet there great-grandson Zackary. Stay strong, be positive & always keep God in heart. Love always, your grandson Jermaine & great-grandson Zackary. Looking forward to seeing you soon!

I knew Arthur James very vaguely when he and his brother Curley came to Sandy Bank school. He was a quiet unassuming young man and obviously he will leave a positive impact on the communiity he has lived in all these years. We are related but I am not sure how, because my father Alfred (Keith) James did not explain how he was related to Arthur's father David. He said they were cousins. I left Treasure beach when I was 14 and attended high school in Kingston but I still remember the names of many people in TB. and I have visited quite often. It is a vastly different place from what I remembered. Congratulations Arthur on a life well lived and the christian examples you are leaving behind.God bless you richly.
