That Beautiful 'Nurturer’

Marjenny James opened her eyes to the world on September 30, 1970. Beautiful as a sunflower she grew, one day at a time, getting stronger and stronger as she encounters each day.

Born and raised in a small district called Frenchman's, Marjenny, my aunt, was one of six children for my grandparents. Though the youngest girl of the lot, her eagerness to learn and be successful had made her 'the nanny of the Maroons'. She liked to play baseball and cricket. Her favourite dish is grilled lobster and fried rice. She also likes grapes. In her spare time she reads a lot of novels and listens to 'roots' music. Marjenny is very fancy and likes jewelry. She is very clean and neat.

As strong as a lion, from childhood to adulthood, she always rises to the occasion, whether it is challenging for her or not. Challenges she had faced in her earlier years, yes, because she became pregnant at an early age and had to face motherhood sooner than planned.

My aunt, Marjenny, has three children, whom she struggled to raise almost entirely on her own. Becoming a mother very early in life had wiped out many of her dreams, but, she worked and suffered, hard and long to ensure that her children had all the opportunities of a better tomorrow.

Many nights my aunt went to bed wondering where tomorrow’s dinner money will come from. But that determined mind of hers that strength of a women kept her going. My aunt had been through a lot in life but she managed to break through that devouring struggle. She has now weaned her children and now lives in her own house. What an accomplishment! After being from house to house, rolling like a stone, carrying her children with her like a kangaroo, she now has her own house
Wonderfully made, uniquely designed fully powered in mind, my aunt is one of the most courageous persons I have ever come across.

I met her for the first time when I was five years old. I can still remember the woman I saw. Tall, brown, slim and sleek, beautifully curved, black-haired, and of course, that smile that calls you without saying, “come here”.

I was visiting my father then, but I soon lived with him and my grandparents. I always stopped by my aunt's workplace to see if she had any goodies for me on my way to school. After a while my father migrated and my aunt now became my guardian or I should say, a mother I never had.

I now live with my aunt and her children. My aunt is very serious about me going to school and learning as much as possible. She believes in education. It is a ‘must have’ in her book. Every day when I reach home from school she will ask me about my teachers and if they gave me homework.

My aunt, Marjenny, works tirelessly. Both at work and home. She is very clean and neat. I admire her a lot. She helps me as much as possible to get my school work ready. She is my inspiration. My aunt, that woman, I would want to take a few pages from her book.

Proud as a peacock, determined and strong she is. That woman, named Marjenny, who raised me to be an intelligent, honest and ambitious young girl is a mirror of a bright future, a stepping stone to excellence, that star, which shines day and night through the calm times or the stormy times. She is that strong woman that keeps on keeping on.

My aunt, Marjenny, that beautiful being, that soldier who walks fearlessly and bravely through the war of life not thinking about what will happen but the mission to be accomplished, is my hero.

Oh Marjenny, my cuz, what can i say about you, this page is too short for me to write everything i know about you. My cuz is a hard working woman who shows pride in whatever she do. She hardly even have time for herself because she is always working to make ends meet. She raises her three children all my herself and she never regret that she had them. As beautiful as she is, she came across many difficult things in life but she never gave up. Education is the key, for which she cherish. Her children have to be at school even if it's the last penny she has. She is a very nice person, always willing to listen to whatever problems you have and guide you through them. Not only because she is my cousin why i admire her, but to see the strenght and ambition that she has. You would never know when she is upset, because she is always smiling and making jokes.
Oshin you did a wonderful job writing that bio about your aunt. May God continue to bless and keep you and your family.

Love
Sophia(NY)

Wow, this is a fantastic profile. Oshin, you say you want to be a veterinarian or a singer? Please don't cross "writer" off your list. This is such a beautiful portrait. I haven't had the pleasure of meeting your aunt, but it's clear that she's a strong, wonderful person.

What a perfect discription of MarJenny. She is everything that you so eloquently put into words. I met Marjenny at Sunset Resort and found her to be a shining star, and a remarkable Jamaican woman. It is evident that you have been influenced by your Auntie. Your writing, love, kindness, and genuine respect for all that is good, comes through. You are so fortunate to have such a special role model in your life! It is rare to meet a human being as beautiful inside and out as Marjenny.

With Love,

Oshin, I do not know your aunt, but I am a regular reader of the profiles posted each month. I must say, for a twelve year old, this is beautifully written. You are a beautiful young lady yourself. Keep your head up and continue to do good in school. I pray God riches blessings on you and to keep encourage you to be an upcoming writer. I know you mentioned your desire of being a Veterinarian or a singer, but also put writer/editor in that list. Again, keep up the good work... Very well written...

For the last ten years Marjenny has had a special smile, a big kiss, and "I love you" for my Husband David Anderson. Mr.Anderson is physically challenged, and she makes him feel very loved and happy in our community, every time she sees him.
We both love her for her everlasting warmth.

Well, I was sitting at my desk at work during my lunchtime and decided to visit the Treasure Beach.net website. I decided to read the latest profile. When I started reading, I thought this must be an adult, but to my amazement it was written by a 12 year old. Excellent job.
I do not know either of you, but I am sure I know some of your relatives. I am from TB and lived in Kingston for most of my years and now reside in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.
My name is Carol Reynolds-Saunders, the youngest daughter for my parents, the late Mr. Claflin Reynolds and Mrs. Gladys James-Reynolds. I am also the niece of the late Mrs. Laurie Hamilton of TB.

God bless you both.

Congratulations to Marjenny and all the best to you and Oshin and may all your dreams come true.

Carol.
