profile

Once again we highlight one of our senior citizens of Treasure Beach. She is none other than Mrs. Lovina Moxam. She was born in Newcombe Valley, St. Elizabeth on April 4, 1912. She got married and came to live in Treasure Beach and has lived here for 65 years. She has 12 children, eight boys and four girls. Now she has a lot of grand and great grand children.

Miss Lovina, as she is called, loves people and is always giving something to help someone. This woman is a woman of strength and character. At the age of 93 years she still goes to Black River to run errands, the post office, and the supermarket. It would seem that the harder one works the younger you look and the longer you live. This woman knows what it is to work hard. As she will say to you, “I am not afraid of hard work and at the same time take care of my body and eat good food.” She still cooks, cleans and washes her clothes for herself and she is very strong. Her favourite dish is fish and bammy.

Miss Lovina would like to see a recreational facility built in the community for the young people. There they would be able to meet to play games and interact with each other. She said that in times gone by the people in Treasure Beach had more respect and love for each other and she prays that a high level of respect will return some day. Her advice to the young people is that they stay away from drugs. She regards Treasure Beach as a God bless place.

Miss Lovina loves children and from time to time she would help to send children to school by helping them to buy lunch and school supplies. She would get pencils and books and send them to the school to give to the children. She believes that children should get a good education.

Miss Lovina you are no ordinary woman!

Hi Miss Lovina,
It's certainly wonderful to see you featured on the TB net. I thank you for the loving kindness you showed and the fine encouragement you gave when I married into your family. I was young and inexperienced, and you were good to me.
Thanks
Here's a word of inspiration for you:
You Still Have Hope

If you can look at the sunset and smile, then you still have hope.

If you can find beauty in the colors of a small flower, then you still have hope.

If you can find pleasure in the movement of a butterfly, then you still have hope.

If the smile of a child can still warm your heart, then you still have hope.

If you can see the good in other people, then you still have hope.

If the rain breaking on a roof top can still lull you to sleep, then you still have hope.

If the sight of a rainbow still makes you stop and stare in wonder, then you still have hope.

If the soft fur of a favored pet still feels pleasant under your fingertips, then you still have hope.

If you meet new people with a trace of excitement and optimism, then you still have hope.

If you give people the benefit of a doubt, then you still have hope.

If you still offer your hand in friendship to others that have touched your life, then you still have hope.

If receiving an unexpected card or letter still brings a pleasant surprise, then you still have hope.

If the suffering of others still fills you with pain and frustration, then you still have hope.

If you refuse to let a friendship die, or accept that it must end, then you still have hope.

If you look forward to a time or place of quiet and reflection, then you still have hope.

If you still buy the ornaments, put up the Christmas tree or cook the turkey, then you still have hope.

If you still watch love stories or want the endings to be happy, then you still have hope.

If you can look to the past and smile, then you still have hope.

If, when faced with the bad, when told everything is futile, you can still look up and end the conversation with the phrase.... "yeah....BUT..." then you still have hope.

Hope is such a marvelous thing.

It bends, it twists, it sometimes hides, but rarely does it break.

It sustains us when nothing else can.

It gives us reason to continue and courage to move ahead, when we tell ourselves we'd rather give in.

Hope puts a smile on our face when the heart cannot manage.

Hope puts our feet on the path when our eyes cannot see it.

Hope moves us to act when our souls are confused of the direction.

Hope is a wonderful thing, something to be cherished and nurtured, and something that will refresh us in return.

And it can be found in each of us, and it can bring light into the darkest of places.

NEVER lose hope.

Hi Sister Lovina,
I am happy to see you featured as a loving and kind person on this website. I think that all Treasure Beach and many others who have known you can attest to your loving kindness over the years. My family is blessed to have known you and as Aunt of my mother, we will always love and cherish you. You were always there for us, giving to us, sharing with us, coming to visit but never with empty hands; whether it was fish and bammies, or cassava or gungo peas from your garden, you were more than happy to share. I know that my mother (Beatrice) and my late father (OC) consider you an honest and trusting friend and always looked forward to your visits. Thank you so much for all those years you shared with us. At 93, you are looking well. Keep smiling and hope to see you in the summer.

Peace and love to your entire family.

With hugs,
Bev

Hi Monica,
I am Lovina and Alvin Moxam's youngest daughter Ursula (Lue). I am sure I know how you are related to the family. Your grandfather, Vivian Moxam and my father, Alvin Moxam are two first cousins (two brother's sons). One of my brother's, Roy, is married to your Aunt Lyn, so that is how you are related to my mom. I hope this helps.

Monica – I hope you get this

Further to your message posted on the Treasure Beach site by mej2255 on Friday, December 09, 2005 - 03:09 pm:

I am writing to confirm that you are indeed related to Miss Lovina but on her husband’s side. Her husband was my uncle Alvin Moxam(your grand father’s cousin), one of my father’s older brothers. My dad is still alive and lives in England. I have just spoken to daddy and he can’t tell me where his cousin lives but if you need to trace him I can try and find him (providing of course he doesn’t mind passing on his details) by ringing round a few cousins that I know of that live locally.

Get in touch if you want Mox0508@blueyonder.co.uk

Kind regards
