profile

Mr. Alfred Ward, age 82, was born in Treasure Beach, St. Elizabeth. He went to the United States and England. He was a carpenter helping to build the Treasure Beach Hotel where he then worked as a bookeeper and reservationist.

He raised chickens and took the eggs to Kingston to sell, worked for the Parish Council on the paving of many roads coming into Treasure Beach, was on the school board for Pedro Plains and was Chairman of the Sandy Bank School board for two years. He was given the Prime Minister's Award for Agriculture and has been a Justice of the Peace for many years.

His favourite dish is Irish potatoes, vegetables, fish and chicken. He says that Treasure Beach is 100% different than in former years. He says that he would like to see some factories be built up for the young people to be employed. I asked him that if he could change anything in Treausre Beach what would that be and he said that he would change the hearts of everyone and let peace, love and unity reign. He said that he would love to see the young people love each other and live loving to all makind and have manners to all the elders they see and meet. "How would you welcome our tourists coming to Treasure Beach?", I asked. He said, "We are glad to have you. Please come again." He has eight children with Mrs. Etna Ward four sons and four daughters.

Mrs. Etna Ward was born in Calabash Bay, Treasure Beach, St. Elizabeth. She went to the Unitid States and England. She is a dedicated wife and mother. She taught literacy class for adults, was the president of the Treasure Beach branch of the Jamaica Women's Federation, and served as a member on the Sandy Bank Primary School Board. She is well known for her baking abilities having baked many wedding and birthday cakes. If you want a lovely wedding or birthday cake at a reasonable price you will have to check her.

Her favourite dish is plantain, breadfruit and sweet potato with fish or chicken. She says that Treasure Beach is much better than in former years. It has been improved a lot. She says she would like to see the young people getting something to do. I asked her if she could change anything in Treasure Beach what would that be and she said the hearts of everyone to look to Jesus Christ as their personal saviour. She says that the young people should concern their life that they are living if they are not living a clean life. "How would you welcome tourists to Treasure Beach?", I asked her. She said, "Welcome to Treasure Beach. Enjoy!"

Mr. and Mrs. Ward have been married 62 years.

It's wonderful to read about Mr. Alfred and Miss Etna. You've both led such joyous lives. Abby-Gaye, you write quite beautifully. And Miss Etna, I'm in the process of looking for a wedding cake (for a wedding planned in April of '04 in Treasure Beach). I'd love to find out more information...
All the best to you all...

Hi Uncle Fred & Aunt Etna,
Thank you for some of our favorite childhood memories, visiting you both in Treasure Beach. "Ain't it Uncle Fred", I would ask a thousand times. And Aunt Etna who would always welcome Monique, Wendy, Roger and Noel with open arms to spend time. Aunt Etna, sorry for taking those chiken eggs and making play scramble eggs with them, we were just kids and into mischief. You would bake and cook up a storm whenever we visited during the summer. What fun we had with you both and those memories are passed on to our children as stories. Love, Monique & Wendy

Thank you Abby-Gaye for writing so warmly about my parents.
I am also a past student of Sandy Bank Primary School, where I sat on the floor for what was then "A" class. There were not enough seats for the students, but that did not prevent me from learning my ABCs. I went on to learn a lot more, and I have been blessed by God to achieve my dreams, and more. Hold on to your dream of being a doctor.
May God bless you.
Curtis

Hi Grandma and Grandpa,
I was so surprised to see your faces online today. Mom called me and said "Go to this website and see if you notice some familiar faces!". When I came to this site and saw you two I nearly fell out of my seat! I'm still smiling w/pride while I'm typing this! As a matter of fact I've practically shown this site to everyone here at work so that they can all see where it all started. Everyone here is in agreement that you both are inspirations and living examples of moral righteousness and Christian fortitude. May God bless you always as he has blessed our family with the Beautiful, Strong, and Wise Pillars of Faith that we all know as Fred and Etna. You two are the foundation that holds the Ward House high in God's sight. Now I know your probably saying "God has already blessed us", but there is always room for more blessings!! So I say again, Thank you Grandma and Grandpa, and may God always keep you in his arms. The honor, glory and praise is HIS, but it is an honor in itself to be your Grandson.
Love you eternally
Richie

Hi Mom & Dad

It's "Knock - Knock" - You both continue to make me feel so blessed to have such wonderful parents like you. From your christian teachings to us - your children - I have not departed, because I have that personal experience with God and is able to teach and guide my family in that path. Thank you for being "praying parents" - It makes me feel good to know you are always taking me to the Throne of God.

God's Blessing always from you daughter Carolyn, son-in-law Earl and grand-kids Jermaine and Tabitha (Tabi).
Thanks Abby-Gaye for profiling my parents, we love them very much. Hope to meet you on my next visit.

They have been a shining example of love for me since I was coming to Treasure Beach as a tourist and needed to order a cake in 1992. They have made me feel like their daughter and I knew I always could come to them for comfort and advise.

I had the pleasure of taking the above photo and 'tiefed' another photo of which I would like to share with all of you now.

May God continue to bless Mr. and Mrs. Ward and I thank Him for allowing me to be blessed with them as a part of my life.

Sis Ward,Old Fred, it is an absolute delight to see you both profiled. It is an honour well earned. The two of you have always been a huge blessing to members of my family and especially to me and for that I am most grateful to our Eternal Father. The warmth, love and concern that you have shown to us over the years flows naturally from God's Lightbearers, and you have certainly been examples of being Christlike in all aspects of your lives. Long may you continue to bless all the lives that come into contact with you.
My hope and my prayer is to sit and talk with you both in the near future, to hear your laughter, revisit some old memories, create new ones and give thanks and praise to our Father together. Stay blessed and hold fast to God as always.Tons of love with hugs and kisses galore. Zaidie,Christy and Zac.

What a blessing it is to have such GRAND parents to call our own. You have set a high standard for married couples, not by words only but by a life long committment to the virtues of marriage. Imagine 62 years and still going strong. Thank-you for the powerful example. Thank-you for your prayers and words of encouragement. Grandma you have taught me how to be hospitable to the stranger and to cook a little extra just in case someone unexpected drops by. Grandpa you have taught me that there is "joy unspeakable" in serving the Lord. Love you both.

Hi Grandma and Grandpa, this is Jermaine.I just want to tell you how happy I was when Dad told me you were being profiled on the internet. It was good to see your faces and make me wish you were here with us, so we can take care of you. Grandma I really do like your fried fish and bammy. Grandpa I'll always remember you taking me to look after the goats with you, and most of all going to the church services with you. Grandpa and grandma I know the people of Treasure Beach love and respect you because of all your friends that came by to see you when I was in Jamaica. You are richly blessed by God because of the good examples you give.I know you are always praying for us and I am very greatful. I'm leaving you with this verse from Exodus2:11 "Moses went out unto his brethren and looked on their burdens." As you said you would love to change the hearts of the people so they can serve God, just keep praying. Love you Grandma and grandpa.

Miss Etna and Mass Fred,
What a delight it is for me to see your faces once more! For a moment I travelled back home to Treasure Beach, such a beautiful spot on God's earth. Congratulations on your 62 long and lasting years of love and marriage, but moreso many years of serving Jesus Christ. I reflect on my childhood days and I recall that you were caring and loving people, always willing to give, to cheer and to encourage everyone. I particularly remember you Miss Etna visiting with my mom shortly after the birth of one of my younger sisters. You came to our house on several occasions to give a lending hand or just to sit and talk. I also recall accompanying my mom to your house for the Jamaica Women's Federation meetings and learning skills classes. Yes, I still remember the rice wine recipe. I reflect at times and say 'those good old days'.

On behalf of the Honeyghan's family (Miss Bee and all her children) I say congratulations for being recognized as outstanding citizens of our Treasure Beach. Many thanks for being the wonderful neighbor you have been over the years. Thanks for being the link in getting me in touch with both Jean and Pat in 2002. We did have some happy childhood days together (riding our bicycles down the road etc.) and despite our busy lives here in the US we try to keep in touch.

As a past student of Sandy Bank School, I feel very proud of the work that is being accomplished there as evidenced in students like Abby-Gaye. You did a good job Abby-Gaye and I pray others will follow in your footsteps.

Miss Etna and Mass Fred, may God, our Lord and Master continue to sustain you both with health, and with His love, His grace and His peace. I continue to love you both.

GOD BLESS AND KEEP YOU BOTH IN GOOD HEALTH AND IT IS GOOD TO KNOW YOU HAVE GOOD LOVING CHILDREN TO STAND BY YOUR SIDES.

Grandad and grandma
It's wonderful to see you on this website and show my son Thomas and daughter Sophie their great grandparents.
So sorry I didn't see you when I visited Treasure Beach last summer - as you were both away. You are always in my thoughts. I hope you are both in good health. love your grandson Tony in England

My dearest Cous,
The beautiful memories I have of you two are too many to mention here, but I have a vast storehouse of them stored up in my heart and every now and then I relish on them. When I was a little girl and could hardly talk you were Bedda Fed and Miss Etna and although I am much older now I still feel that closeness and love for you both. I think of you often although I do not write or phone. I hope to see you both next year when I visit Jamaica,so hold on till I get there. God bless you both.
Much love
Kitty.

To my dear Dad, I know this profile has been posted since 2003, now it is 6 years later. Dad you are no longer 82yrs but soon to be 88yrs old, no longer my strong and vibrant Dad but in my eyes, I still see your strength in your strong will and your memory that stays sharp, and even though your words are but a whisper they still ring through to my heart. Dad, you have been my hero, the example of what a father is and should be and what a husband is and should be.
To my dear Mom, I know you are still the stronger of the two and of course you are also getting up in age. I see how you and Daddy have complimented each other and how God have truely blessed the both of you in so many ways. How can I thank you both enough for such a blessed childhood, the love, support, and the wonderful prayers. Mom and Dad I love you both so much for that inherited love that I too can share with my family. All I can say is that I am truly blessed. Thank you God, for my Mom and my Dad. I Love you both very much.
From your last of eight..loving you always, Carolyn

Carolyn, you spoke from the depth of your heart and it good when you say it in their living years. Mass Fred and Aunt Etna are two wonderful people and I pray that God will continue to richly bless them.

Thanks Lucia, Mom and Dad mean the wolrd to me...only if I could be closer to them to help care for them...I let them know each time I talk to them so they can hear it now..it's no good when they are gone from us. I lift them up in my prayers daily.
