March 2003: Mr. Norman Sylvester Elliott

Norman Sylvester Elliott was born on the 25th December 1957 in the parish of Manchester in the district of New Forest. He attended the New Forest Primary School then moved on to St. Elizabeth Technical High School. On leaving school he went to work on the construction of the Nain Alumina Plant through all its stages. He then went on to work within the Trade Union Movement. He did courses at the Trade Union Institute.
He got married to his loving wife Marion and moved to live in Great Bay, St. Elizabeth. His children are Daine, Edward, Colesia, Birch, Avaya and Gregory. His grandchildren are Dacia, Kymani, Natheniel, and Mikhail.
Mr. Elliott is a very positive person and so he dislikes negative people and those who have hypocritical tendencies. It is because of his positive attitude that he has developed a friendship lasting for 15 years now with a family out of Atlanta, Georgia. These two people, Jim and Sabrena Davis, visit the island annually, and through Mr. Elliott, have been contributing to the schools in the area computers and other school material.
Mr. Elliott is the Chairman of the Board of the Sandy Bank Primary School and has worked and is working hard to ensure that the school is one of the best. Through his work the school gained a national award from the National Council on Education in Recognition of Outstanding Contribution to School Management in Jamaica.
What he likes most about Treasure Beacch is the entrepreneurship of the citizens in creating what he regards as a model community tourism project. He likes the uniqueness of the environment, the peace and tranquility interspersed with the lively, spirited, friendly and humorous people.
"What I would like to see happen in Treasure Beach is for the citizens to become more aware of the talents they all posess and the potential of the area they live in." This he said can be achieved through educational outreach seminars for the citizens to help them to appreciate what is happening in the community and how they can help to work together to make the community that "paradise" which it is capable of becoming.
His message to all potential tourists is if they have not yet visited Treasure Beach don't wait too long because it is an experience of a lifetime.
His favourite dishes are many; lobster, fish, and beef but above all he enjoys a good meal of curried goat.

By Davis on Sunday, March 23, 2003 - 12:11 pm: Edit Post Mr. Norman Elliott and his wife Marion are the nicest and most compationate family I have ever meet anywhere.Norman helps and cares for his community in so many,many differant ways it is hard to put into words.He organises every year to put on a Christmas party for the children in the area that otherwise would have absolutly nothing for Christmas.He is a major force in the improvement of many schools in the Treasure Beach area and beyond.This is only the tip of the iceberg.Our whole family is proud to be able to call him and his family our friends. Thanks you Norman for all the help you have given to my family and I over the years.Hope to see you and Marion soon.
