profile
Two outstanding and unique people are our mentors and they are from the beautiful and unspoilt community of Treasure Beach in the parish of St. Elizabeth. Let me introduce you all to this wonderful couple, Headly and Fermena Gayle.

Brother Gayle, as we know him, was born in the community of Ballard's Valley but moved to this community 56 years ago. On the other hand Sister Fermena has lived here all her life. One would wonder how these two people from so far away got together as man and wife.

The story goes that he used to visit friends in the community and one of his friends, Salvie Parchment, otherwise known as "Swift" introduced him to the James family. It was from there that he fell in love with Miss Fermena and they got married fifty-six years ago.

This couple has four daughters of their own namely, Lorna, Blondie, Elaine and Margaret, they have adopted a son named Paul. They now have nine grandchildren.

Brother Gayle has worked all his life as a contractor and many of the houses in and around Treasure Beach were built by him. Sister Fermena on the other hand is a dressmaker but she used this skill for her immediate family. She is one of those perfect housewives who sees to the well being of her husband and children. Above all work Brother and Sister Gayle are known for their dedication as workers for Christ. The have pastored the Treasure Beach Pentecostal Church of God for thirty-two years. Ill-health has caused Brother Gayle to give up active duties as a pastor but one can see him from Sunday to Sunday so busy as he is not sick going to worship at church. Both got saved in the 1950's and their faith in God has never wavered to this day. Their strong beleif and faith has caused many people to give their lives to Jesus Christ.

Brother Gayle has served this community in other ways. He would prepare documents and write recommendations for nearly everyone when he could. He is a very good councellor and advisor. Many persons would seek his help because he can be trusted to keep what is asked of him in the strictest confidence.

These two people who have lived so long in this community have seen many changes. However, they would love to see more improvement in our roads and other infrastructures. They want the people in the community to become more closely nitted and work together as one for the betterment of the community.

To our visitors they extend the usual warm friendly welcome and the expressed wish for an enjoyable stay.

To the young people in this community, Jamaica and the wider society, they wish for them the following:

Bravo Shantal on your beautiful expose of these two fine people! It is good to know that those so young are taking an interest in their heritage and following the upstanding example of those profiled. Jamaicans and their way of life is most certainly an example to us all, everywhere in this world. Great work! Thanks.

Mom and Dad - I give God thanks for you both every day, and for your love and dedication to all your children. The sacrifices that you have made in your lives for us to be who we are today is an honor to you both. All praises to God for without him in your lives first, you would be lost raising us, Thank you so very much for teaching us the ways of the Lord while we were young because today we are walking in his will, and in his way, and we are very Blessed because of that. I have very wonderful memories of my childhood, the singing around the house and the scrambling to get out the house to church. I look back on my life many times over the years and say I have the world's most wonderful parents and I would not exchange them for anything, Smile. I love you both with all my heart, and may God continue to grant you both a long and happy life in him. You have been a wonderful example for me in raising my children. Thank you, and God Bless.
Your loving daughter Lorna.

"Train up a child in the way he should go; and when he is old, he will not depart from it." (Prov. 22:6)

Oh what a feeling! It's a blessing to read an article that honours the life of God's children. My Grandparents (Fermina & Headley Gayle) are "living-stones," they are living a life that should be emulated by all. Through them God's light shines bright and has been a beacon of hope for all of us.

We have learned through them that living in obedience to God is the greatest gift!

"Behold a sower went forth to sow; and when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side . . .But others fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear." (Matt. 13:3-9)

To my Mother and Father;

You both have estilled the WORD in our hearts, minds and spirits. We are sincerely grateful and only hope to emulate the same with our children. Through your lives, we understand that through God ALL things are possible.

"Honor thy father and mother; That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth." (Eph. 6:2-3)

We are truly blessed to have the love of our Grandparents, Parents, and all the Treasure Beach Family. All of you have been "our rock and salavation." May God bless us all.

The Jabez Prayer

And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, "Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!" So God granted him what he requested. (Chron. 4:10)

God Bless,

Tenesha and Dean

Dear Mom & Dad:

On behalf of our aunt Blondie, we want you to know that she is also grateful for the love you have given her over the years. That love and care have now been extended to you both in your golden years, just when you need it most.

She too, we know, will continue to be an example in the community and to uphold the christian values, which you have believed and lived all of your lives.

We all thank God for such godly grandparents and the wonderful legacy of the christian heritage.

From granddaughters: Crystal Gayle & Leisa-Marie Hume

I wanted to let all who responded to this months Profile know that I have printed out your responses and have delivered them to Mr. and Mrs. Gayle.

I would further like to say what a pleasure it has been to read your comments and to pass them on to Mr. and Mrs. Gayle. With all the negativity that seems to be around in the world today your expressions of love are both refreshing and inspiring. We need to remember that love is much stronger than hate and a positive attitude can make positive changes where negativity only breeds more negativity.

May God continue to bless all of you and keep you in His care.

Rebecca
