how much should i expect to pay for a taxi from starfish trelawny to treasure beach for 6 plus luggage?
I would say anywhere from $200 - $225 US as Starfish is located another hour outside of Montego Bay, making it about a 3 - 4 hour trip to Treasure Beach.
is there a driver who has a minibus that anyone can recommend?
I know Treasure Tours transport people, maybe you can email them and find out if they will be able to send someone for you. Wish you all the best, and enjoy Treasure Beach.
Treasure Tours can assist you with your transportation needs. Please contact us at treasuretours@cwjamaica.com for further information.
Thanks!
i have one quote from them which i thought was slightly on the expensive side as i need other journeys too.is there anybody else?with a minibus?
Villatrip, the price quoted by Treasure Tours is the going rate for almost all drivers these days. If someone give you a better price please be sure they are properly licensed and have insurance to carry tourists. The Treasure Tours drivers are worth every extra dollar you will spend.
I used to live in the Falmouth area(up the road from Starfish Trelawny in Duncan's) before I made my move to Treasure Beach. Unless you want to spend a day and save money by using route taxis (and believe me, it will take the better part of a day), then the quote you received is the going rate. I have known Treasure Tours staff for a long time, and they will only offer you competitive and fair rates.
If you hire a private driver, it will cost more. Like others have said, if you go another route, make sure they are liscensed, insured drivers that know the routes to Treasure Beach.
I could not agree more with"one who knows"
sorry just double checked my treasure tours quote.it was only one of the journeys that worked out more than we usually pay,
as they come so highly recommended,I am going to try treasure tours this time.
$225 for 6 people is VERY reasonable.
3 of those are children..but even so if thats the going rate i will pay it.
I must also say, that one thing also overlooked by people seeking transport in Jamaica is the fact that the drivers need to gas up to drive to get you from your where you are, there is the time that it takes them to get to you, the maintenance of their sturdy (and air conditioned) vehicles (too keep you comfortable), and let's face it, a lot of the roads are in not the best shape. Tourist service vehicles need to be maintained often.
You are paying for a service (comfort, education of the areas you are driving through, air conditioning, courtesy stops - especially if you have children). If you want to go cheaper, you can, but you likely will have a silent driver, no stops, no air conditioning, etc.
The driver is working for a full day getting you from to Trelawny to Treasure Beach. From when they get up early to wash the van to make it clean and nice for you, all the hours on the road to get to you, and then everything you need on the way back to Treasure Beach.
In comparison, how much is your wage for a day? Perhaps you will find it comparable when you look at it that way.
Gas is very $$. The price is more than fair.
Some of the postings on this topic sound as if some want Villatrip to feel bad for questioning the price, it is unfair to do so. Villatrip and any other visit, should feel absolutely comfortable when spending their money however they choose to. No one knows another's purse and regardless of how visitors choose to spend their $$$, lets be thankful that they spend them visiting Jamaica, therefore, supporting the overall economy and the people. When they are in TB they will be supporting the local economy. So, lets go easy. Irie
That is very true Alice, but I think it is also fair to let those people asking know the difference in prices and the service that they will get from hiring a private driver to taking a route taxi. Also that the prices of private drivers are very competetive and reflect the honest living that the drivers are making for sometimes very long days.
I am tired of the perception that in a third world nation, everything (including one's time)can be bought for "Cheap". All Jamaicans deserve to be paid the going rate for services rendered.
Again, all I can say is that no one knows the next man's purse. I believe whether in the developing world or anywhere else, consumers of goods and services have the right to shop around! I have visited at least five continents and always shop around for the best price because $$$ doesn't grow on trees. I think there is often a misperception or faulty perception that the visitor from "abroad" has a bag of money
"a fool and his money shall surely depart". I agree it is fair to advise about the market rate, but unfair to question how much a visitor's wages are and place that person on the defensive. The price of crude oil is noted everyday as many economies are affected so WE ALL know that gas is expensive world-wide. Many economies are experiencing a downward turn so everyone is being careful with their $$$. Free Market economies(Jamaica's) is based on competition so Villatrip get the best value for your money with no guilt attached!!! just my opinion.
thankyou for the responses.I did want a private ride and not a route taxi.
I am not new to jamaica, only to treasure beach so forgive me for not knowing "the going rate"
and please let's not go down the route of me wanting to visit a poor third world country and me trying to rip taxi drivers off and not pay them their dues.
the reason I am trying to get a fair price is I will be staying all over the island on this visit and will need a lot of transporting around.
It really mounts up so every little helps.
and in relation to "a days wage "remark:
the price we are paying for a taxi from one area to another-approx 6 hrs work,is half a weeks wage to most people where I live.
so with so many journeys needed this year,i have to source a GOOD DEAL.
I think some people assume very incorrectly that all visitors have a lot of money to spend, when infact,
possibly the american visitors have a fair bit to spend as they can get a package deal for up to a week ,including airfare for under 200 usd while us in england can expect to pay at least 1000 usd EACH per person flight only -so for a family that is a lot of money .Then you add on accomodation and taxis and food etc so we do not always have a lot left over.We don't earn much and what we do earn we get taxed on.
Things are bad economically in the US. Most Americans do not have $$ to burn.
it works both ways.somebody above posted that they are sick of people coming to a poor third world country and want everything for nothing.
when fact of the matter is we dont want it for nothing but most of us do not have huge amounts to give.
just because our politicians are rich does not mean we are too!
I have always found a fair price for things in jamaica -a price that helps both me the buyer and the seller out.
It has nothing to do with how your economy is or what country you are working in,if you offer a service for a fair and reasonable price ,it will sell.
I come to jamaica for the people.talking is free!!it costs nothing yet you learn everything,
I don't see the harm in shopping around.even if i was a millionaire i still would!
why would you go to the most expensive store in town if they sold the exact same thing on your market for half price?
villatrip , not all americans have money, I've been coming to Jamaica for the past 14 years (having to save for each trip) have never seen a deal for $200.
No matter where we live some people have money and some don't. Tired of people thinking we all have money.
I'm with you "average american". We too have been to Jamaica 13 times, going on 14, and we have never got a $200 package deal. We are an average middle class couple and spend anywhere from $3,000-$5,000 each trip depending on how much we can save and afford. We too work hard for our money - all of which is taxed. No harm in shopping around and getting the best deal.
the price I saw so cheap was a special spring break deal and was only for about 5 days-the point I was trying to say is that some americans may have a bit more cash left over than us english as the airfare from america is half the price we pay.that being said holidays are ex[ensive where-ever you come from!
just as you are tired of people thinking you have lots of money left over to fritter away,we are tired too-not only do we get charged double for our holiday it is upsetting when you get there that you do not have all the cash left over that you would like to see going to the places that need it most.
that is why I DO NOT book package deals and would rather see most of my money being given to individuals.
