I would like to thank Sue Gately and Lucia Depamphilis from Rivier College located in New Hampshire, USA, for taking their one week spring break vacation and coming to Treasure Beach to hold a literacy workshop for teachers.

This workshop came about when their department chairperson, Charlie Mitsakos, met Jason Henzell while holidaying in Jamaica. The two got talking, Jason brought Mr. Mitsakos up to the Sandy Bank Primary School to meet with Mrs. Moxam and the results have been seen this week.

We would like to thank the participants of the program who also gave up their one week spring break vacation to volunteer attendance. Teachers from Sandy Bank Primary, Sea View, Black River Primary, Hopewell, Brinkley, Munro College, God's School, and Sandy Bank Basic Schools participated in this program. Mr. Burnett, the Education Officer for the South St. Elizabeth Cluster of Principals came by yesterday to witness the great progress being made in the workshop.

This workshop had two main objectives. 1. Provide training skills for teachers dealing with 'non-starters' or those students who have difficulties with reading and comprehension. 2. Provide training skills for teachers to help develop students' writing skills.

Thanks should also be given to BREDS and Jakes for providing food and accommodations for Ms. Gately and Ms. DePamphilis.

Judging from the smiles on the faces of the participants and trainers, it looks like it has been a great week of learning.

Thanks to Jason if it wasn't for him we would not be looking at this great picture of accomplishment. How nice it is to know that one visitor to our little village could return to his country and such good would follow.
I would also like to say thanks to the teachers that gave up their holidays to participate just for the good of their students.
