My son who is 14 and I will be arriving April 13 and staying till april 19th. I was thinking it might be nice to do a few hours of volunteer work while visiting if anybody knows of anything please post or email me at bryan43016@yahoo.com
sandy bank primary school is good place
It might be good to establish a new venue for some of the volunteer work that is frequently being offered by kind, well-meaning visitors.
For example, the beaches are no longer being kept as well as they used to be. Can those persons with an environmental bent be given an opportunity to help, both to clean up the beaches and to help establish new standards for maintaining them or educating those who might not fully appreciate the value of this resource?
Is this an initiative that a group like BREDS might be able to give some pointers on?
The Women's Centre might also be another venue for some volunteer work.
Just throwing out some additional ideas. No doubt there are others that could be shared.
Great idea, especially re: the beaches/sea. It is a life source, economic resource and unfortunately in need of better care and appreciation world-wide including Jamaica, Treasure Beach! Maybe, one of the marine study programs on island could be invited to inform about the problems and solutions facing Jamaica & Treasure Beach's marine enviornment. Two such resources are:
1)Hofstra University Marine Program located on the North Coast
2)University of the West Indies
In the past Cornell University has also conducted studies.
