Do you only want to purchase or would you rent? There are several people/places to rent bikes in TB: Viking, Andy, Brooks ... I don't know all the prices. I think you can rent from Vikings for about $75 or $80 a week.

Thanks for the feedback! Would prefer to buy 2 bikes as we'll be there for a month. What about "Courts" store in Black River?

The "Pink Plaza" in Treasure Beach has a bike shop. Mountain bikes are about $100 US and about the quality you would expect for the price.

Courts advertises bikes online, but they are not generally in stock in Black River- price is about the same as is quality. If you do purchase and run into breakdown issues(in one month you WILL)- see Conrad who has a small bike repair place in Black River market where all spare parts and very reasonably priced service can be obtained.

Rentals in Treasure Beach include Andy 438-1311 $25 per day(bikes located at Jakes), Morris at Pardy's (just down the road from Jakes on opposite side of the road)about $400J per day or Viking's in Great Bay (free delivery in TB 430-6983 or 965-3110) where prices are negotiable for long term rentals and you can also rent snorkeling gear, boogie boards and glass bottom kayaks.

For scooters Gary is the man to call, 452-4490. His rates are approx. $30 per day and cheaper by the week.

I bought a bike in a shop near fishermanīs plaza ( a little further up the road, in the pink coloured shopping center, ... about 3 years ago. donīt know if the shop still exists, the bike (not the best one) cost 100,- USD and I think it would do it just about for 4 weeks...

Could anyone tell me what is involved in bringing a bike from Canada to Jamaica? I know AirCanada charges a fee but what about clearing custom at Montego Bay airport?

The fee is 40% of bike value bringing in a bike you plan to keep on the island. If you are bringing it back with you, you shouldn't have to pay.

Any used bikes brought into Jamaica have to be "fumigated" the cost is about $3 US however if the "Fumigation man" isn't there when you arrive, you may have to return to the airport to pick your bike up a few days after arrival.

These are the rules mind you, not always followed or known by every customs officer who is inspecting your incoming boxes.

I just brought a bike over and no one cared about anything except that it was clean. They really don;t want dirt or mud from another country to enter. If you clean the bike before you travel it should be a lot smoother.
