We have taken the liberty of starting a new thread for this topic and moved some messages over to this thread, keeping the Scotland thread open for more info on that subject matter.

Canada 2, I fully understand your posting and see nothing wrong with it. It has historical and current global relevance and I based my opinion on the study of African history at University. I understand the history of glabal colonialism and neo-colonialism that continues to affect us all. We all struggle daily to transend this but history is what it is and cannot be rewritten no matter how much many of us may like to. Additionally, I make my opinion as a mulatto Jamaican whose roots are Chinese(my last name being Chin- as my paternal grandfather's genotype and phenotype are Chinese), Portuguese, Scottish and African. I understand that these topics can easily become emotional but I would suggest that people evaluate things from an objective historical perspective. I do not understand the need for attacking Canada. You are definitely right in that "freedom" exist in the right to hold one's opinions and to dissent. So, let's all try to respect each other and walk and live right with each other globally and let our present actions positively change and contribute to history in the making.

I once had a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the contents of their character.I have a dream today.

Why apply what Blacks experience in the USA? What am I missing? When someone steps on your corn by all means address it. Has TBN stepped on someone's corn? Are we angry? What did James Brown say? How peaceful should we be? Questions, Questions........ Our ancestors fought the British to the end; is that what's going on here? STOP!!!

Just to let you know it's not every question that deserve answer.

Thing is Questions; for those of us with African and British (& more) ancestry how can we deny any part of our genetic past?

Thus I cannot claim that all my ancestors fought the British to the end.

Some Maroon communities fought the British to a treaty.

One of our contradictions is claiming out of many one people yet refering to Jamaica as a Black country.

I will mad you with kette drum then put it down and finger flamenco and bluegrass all in honor and remembrance of some ancestors....without contradiction or hypocrisy.

I am not a blackman nor a whiteman. I am the product of my ancestors.

UNIQUE.

As we all are.

Question, I don't see the link between Canada2's initial comment and TB.Net (There was no mention of TB.Net)unless I missed something. Turey, you are so correct in that there is truely no such thing as a black or white man. We all(globally) are a genetic blending of various people who have historically had contact with each other. There are very few societies that have people with pure genetics(the result of geographic isolation, usually). The idea of race and racial identity is a devisive tool to maintain socio-economic domination and inbalance. Pre-colonial natives in 75 percent of the world were affected by colonialism and imperialism that has perpetuated similar diaspora effects socially, politically and economically. It is not a matter of the USA, it's a commonality of colonialism and slavery globally. Consider, the present day economic juxtapositions that exist globally. Jamaica's class based society has relevance to colonialism. Food for thought, it is recently that Jamaica is struggling to overcome neo-colonial ideas of beauty and she continues to struggle in terms of economic development and success. Again, we can't deny nor change the past but we can positively affect the future with our understanding of history and present actions.

Turkey, nicely said. The Maroons fought to a treaty, but was the treaty an end to their fight? Or is this another thread? You dont have to respond. Through questions, much is learned.

WELL DONE TUREY!!
Of all the responses so far, I cannot deny that your point is extremely valid if we are gonna embrace our motto,'OUT OF MANY ONE PEOPLE'.
I agree with you 100%!!!

Well said.

Though, not to take away the points of the others, I think we should think about who we REALLY are personally, where we REALLY came from, and what made us into the 'person' that we are today and then we will be able to move on with less anger.

Turey, its obvious that you know, accept and embrace who you are...

Again WELL SAID.....

Michelle in London

Once said I want to be the white man's brother. Not his brotherin-law.We all must learn to live to togather as brothers or perish togather as fools.

I agree Turey and Michelle. I Believe everything happens for a reason. What I mean is that, the fact that some of us has so many different blood (backgrounds), is significant to show us that we are not suppose to be lifting up or resenting a specific one. It is hypocritical. Therefore the significance is that we do not have a right to be proud of one side and then resent the other.

We have visitors who visit this site to search for information for their holidays, people who has never even being to our country before. This site is suppose to encourage them to come and share our beautiful and peaceful community, and to show them that it doesn't matter what colour, background or race they are, they are always welcome. Not to make them feel that we have preference because of our history. We want to show them that we are a strong people, we overcame alot and yet look how great we are!! This is the stuff that keep us grounded!

Come on people let us think positivity and base this tread on outcome of the past and how much we've achieved rather than staying in the past. Let us share all the happy endings. Like Bob Marley said,'Emancipate yourself from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our minds'.

Come on Everyone.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

For the person wondering why their message was not approved and asking if a conspiracy is going on, please read the following which is an exerpt from a message we posted in the Off Topic thread the other day. This should answer your question.

Please, please everyone for the umteenth time . . KEEP IT POSITIVE!

In this new year starting let us all think hard on the power of the written word. Let us remember folks of all ages and backgrounds are reading this site. And let us never forget the goal of this site is to promote positive vibes for this wonderful community we all love. We implore all of you, before you send your message, read it again. Is it a message which is supportive and/or informative? Or is it a message pointing a finger at someone or their opinion. There is no problem with having a different opinion and expressing it in a positive way. Often, someone has sent a message with very good and interesting points in it, but one line will say something derogatory or points a finger, i.e. "Jon Doe you are wrong and stupid and . . . .' The rest of the message may go on to explain their opinion but because they started the message with a negative statement, the message will not be approved. We've also had great messages which we've needed to delete because of one word which is considered to be an inappropriate word. So again, read your message over and make sure it complies with the guidelines. If messages continue to come in which we know will cause hurtful feelings and are bound to create negative vibes, we will be forced to delete them.

Hi Questions, the question of Maroon treaties would probably be best answered by one of the knowlegeable Colonels or books available.

There was talk of sustainable development and greater recognition of the communities, I don't know what's been happening recently.

In short I think their fight is one common to all of us; the access to limited resources complicated by convoluted bureaucratic and political systems and often won by those learned in the game of capital manipulation.

I believe a majority of us have Maroon ancestors, some have kept close to the old towns and villages and remember some of the ceremonies and bush knowledge.

Thanks for your encouraging feedback Michelle and all.

I took some time off to a place without tv, radio, or internet and so, like Alice, I'm in wonderland pertaining to Canada2's original comments.
As "Questions" says :"through questions, much is learned". The Human ability to ask questions is the most significant building block to our evolution and eventual survival. Thank you TBNet for allowing this verbal exercise even though you may have had concerns about its genesis.

One man If all mankind minus one were of opinion, and only one person were of the contrary opinion, man-kind would be no more justified in silencing that one person, than he.If he had the power, justified in silencing mankind

Turey, speaking of bush knowledge. Seems like the world has taken on THE bush knowledge and use it to market their natural diets and medicines. We also have a Jamaican Bush Doctor in NY who is a God sent. We must get back to the bushes and natural resources. In the good ole days that all we used. Imagine buying fever grass, orange peel and mint tea (to name a few) in the health store.

I am a bushman at heart questions.

The silence of the chlorophyll beings is awesome and their gifts are available to those that ask.

NY is fortunate to have the Doctor you know.

Best wishes.
