"To Isabel with love."
Dodi.

FLOWERS, TELL YOUR STORY

At the ending of another Sabbath
I lean back against the fallen tree
- Mahogany

The dogs are splayed out on the lawn
night shades are falling, mosquitoes biting
Soon I shall be retiring to the halls of house and home.

A mellow feeling haunts this peaceful solitude -
‘Flowers tell your story.’

Miss Chin’s hedge behind her wall
seen by me this early morn,
pushing up their flowery faces alive with rosy colours
others not yet fully open waiting in their places

“Please,” I asked the gardener at the gate,
“Just spare them form the cutting for another week or two.
Perhaps others would like to see
these beauties smiling over the garden wall.”
“All right,” he said and I moved on.

But this afternoon it was a different sight.
He had tried...Oh yes I give him that,
for blooms there were still showing.
The rest however were all gone regardless of their growing.

‘Unfriendly world’ what else to say -
no feeling for the works of God.
Oh no... the mind-set of today is

‘Beauties what of those?’
Plants must be precise, pristine, growing all in rows.

We have our walls and our protection
from the interfering mob.
We write “Keep Out” on every gate
and think – ‘move away from here you slob.’

And so the savage truth is out.
‘Friendly’ is an antique word
antiquated – past and gone.
We live in mortal fear of harm
and ‘fear’ and ‘friendly’ don’t agree.
Flowers, animals, children all, friendliness is over – see!

The Schools, the Homes, the Streets,
the Music and its chorus
t’is fear of one sort or another
that moves the minds of men,
and fashions the lives of those around us.

Poor, sad, humanity –
bagged, bottled and bored
with things of little consequence,
what now of your concrete walls
and costly Air Conditionings ?
your powerising, computerizing, advertising
and televisioning ?
Down fall the trees and up go the poles.
unfriendly... deadly
“Kill those itchy, scratchy, creepy crawlies.
Get them out of here.”
And we zap them with our sprays and poisons.
Deadly – Unfriendly yes.
but, for how much longer ?

money making, God forsaking – – yet
for how much longer ?

Unaware are we, that in ages past,
when such a state as this,
unknown to those who wrote,
would one day come – at last ?

“Of old hast thou laid the foundation of the earth
and the heavens are the works of thy hands.
They shall perish,
but thou shalt endure.
Yea, all of them shall wax old like a garment
as a vesture shall thou change them
and they shall be changed.
But thou art the same and thy years shall have no end.”
(Psalm 102:25-27)

Yes King David.
God gave you a glimpse of the future of this unfriendly world.

Miss June
