We would like to find a house to rent for a month with some creature comforts, ie, private bath, kitchen, fan or air, near the beach with great neighbors.
Nancy and I import crafts from Mexico and would like to explore Jamaica as a new craft source. We have a strong web presence and significant market resources. We are a member of the Fair Trade Federation and comitted to buying directly and paying fairly the artists we work with.
We consider ourselves to be more travelers than tourists and are low maintenance so we're not looking for anything fancy.
Because we are on a budget we are hoping to get a discount for a longer stay? We are looking at
Jan 14 -Feb 11th somewhere in the price range of $500-$700.
Hope to hear from you soon,
regards, Roger
Pon de Rock, a small studio house (see Where to Stay tab here) might be a good low-budget choice, with easy access to a good and fairly unknown/untrafficked beach and backroad to Black River. More remote than most, which is part of its charm. Check in with L.T. at his woodcarving
shop in Calabash Bay for lignum vitae and Gerry
who shows at Rainbow Gallery in Calabash/lives up on the Darliston Road in Westmoreland. 'Wangy'/aka Lesbert Lee and his uncles are also superb carvers (see http://www.mountambrin.com).
I second checking out LT. Looking at his shop, you might not be impressed. However, there is world class carving inside.
